General rules for All IOT Games

to the newbies and 12-year-olds that only want to play USSR.

Please explain to me how that sentence isn't supposed to be derogatory to new players?

There should be a real sense of community here, even from the most experienced and serious players to the newbies and 12-year-olds that only want to play USSR. You can't afford think of new players as bringing quality down, but rather adding to the forum activity, which is ALWAYS needed

Try quoting the whole sentence. My point was that EVEN the HYPOTHETICAL 12-year-old that only wants to play USSR (this being an EXTREME example of course) should NOT be shunned and discouraged from participating in the forum. I do see how the sentence could be considered as derogatory, however, and I will go ahead and blame it on poor wording. If you would, let me rephrase:

There should be a real sense of community here, from the most RP-heavy players to the casual players, to the newbies. Even a (hypothetical, of course) 12-year-old kid that only wants to play USSR and seems to have zero RP capability should be welcomed, into only certain games, but still welcomed, and encouraged to grow in his abilities, if he wants to play in more elaborate games.

You can't afford think of new players as bringing quality down, but rather adding to the forum activity, which is ALWAYS needed.

Other than homo sapiens bias, I see no reason why a non-human nation need inherently be silly, though, if it is played seriously.

I can attest to having played more than one furry nation seriously in the past. As protagonist and antagonist.

I think it was just a conflict caused because of ignorance. Let me explain, we have a player by the name of Patriotic_Fool who usually plays as the USSR as a joke. He got off on the wrong foot with a lot of people and now in MP3 Sone and Mosher are attacking him and NinjaCow because their chosen nations are silly.

And your idea that they have little RP capacity is incorrect. PF made some of the largest RPs in MP2 as the USSR.

On an unrelated note, nice to see some other Forum RP gamers. But you shouldn't make the mistake of trying to apply what works for them to IOT's. It is very different than IOT's since in Rp games you usually are working together to build a story. In IOT's it is much more competitive (Which some hate) and players work to beat each other.

He certainly did spam the most RP. I will give you that. Quality is highly debatable.

Lot's of people spam RP, quality is simply objective. I do believe that Thor and Alied got accused of this before. In my opinion Alied's RPs seem to be of good quality and i never got to see one of Thor's.

How does one judge quality, really?

We have a panel in the chat that judges the quality of all roleplaying, remember?

Oh, wow. Go figure that the example I choose to use is already a contentious subject.

Whoa, hold your horses here. I've seen plenty of 12-year-olds that are great at RP and writing. I've seen plenty of adults that are terrible. I also know plenty of people just don't like to spend a lot of time on a forum game. There's plenty of reasons not to do it, and no one should ever be judged for that.

Yeah, I can see that it is a different environment. That does seem to imply tighter rules and I can see these things getting pretty heated. All the more reason for GMs to lay out their expectations CLEARLY from the beginning.

@Sonic
If your GM has a problem with your concept, I don't see why you need to push buttons. Go to a different RP or create your own, that's all there is to it. Let the stuffy elitists have their stuffy elitist IOT, just like they should let others have their wacky casual IOT.

Tani, aka SonicTH (but we don't encourage him), is usually GMing 50% of the games at any given time.

Never call him Sonic. Never.

Ahem.
All of this is nice discussion, but off-topic. Especially given that we already have two or three threads related to this (Death of IOT might be the best one for the current train).

Yeah, I'm just going to use these rules, since it seems to be "approved" in a sense.

Why don't we get postcount here? The posts that I make in this forum tend to be more intelligent than the "GPS to X" posts that I regularly make in PBEM games, which count towards postcount.

The Spammer's Crusade will have the Spammiest Wiki Entry!

Probably because of posts like this.

Not bashing NC, but when an entire nation is based off of spam, it kinda sends a very bad vibe in terms of post count.

I also don't think postcount is particularly important to maintaining the quality and performance of our games...

As the USSR in MP2, I feel I need to defend myself to this rude comment.

Firstly, my roleplay was not spam. Most roleplay was constructive and involved actions I was currently taking.

For example, I had field reports for my troops (when I was training them by the dozens). I had a roleplay about harbor rebuilding (when I bought 10 ships). I had some on space (when I was hoping to go to space soon).

They supplemented my gameplay style and made the experience more immersing. It's not just a bunch of random paragraphs hoping to score free points - it's to narrate my actions.

Of course, what you guys didn't know is that I had a dozen or so "spam roleplays" that were of lesser quality, but just shared between taniciusfox and I. They weren't garbage either, but they were more like installments of a same story. (I had 5 chemical roleplays where a scientist is commissioned to develop the WMD tech, and he slowly learns how to store it, manufacture it, and use it.

Overall, I think your shortsighted statements get the best of you, sonereal.

As the OP of this thread, I feel the need to once again point out that we are not discussing the current quality of RP in any game.
