Anyways, I still believe that Battlecruiser can be used as battleships,
until a authentic Battleship shows up on the other side, then they have it a little bit harder.
Though, it would be cool to have a Fast Battleship, or Battlecruiser unit. Cram all the more art into the game eh?
I've got Destroyers at Str-30, Heavy Cruisers at Str-34, Dreadnoughts at Str-38 and Battleships at Str-42... exactly where do you want me to fit "Fast Battleships" and "Battlecruisers" at?
Matt, when are you going to admit that you're wrong that you can't use Battlecruisers in the Battleship spot? You also had FULL CONTROL of which French warship to model as I gave you both the Richeliue and Dunkerque as options... don't blame me that you chose a Battlecruiser when you had a Battleship as an option I pointed out to you.
Bottom line, there's really no realistic place in game for splitting-hairs with a Battlecruiser vs a Battleship (not without revamping a TON of stuff). At the scale and abstraction this game is, Battlecruisers have every right to represent the Battleship category... you're just out of gas that it's no good to do so.
If you want to play a game that has space to seperate the stats of a Battlecruiser from a Battleship, there's plenty of games that do that (including
Pacific General!), but in Civ4 gamescale, it's just too abstract for you to be splitting hairs. At least by default combat values... you'd really have to overhaul the combat system drastically to show a differance.
Why else would the Battlecruisers of WWI and WWII be used in essentially the same role as Battleships were... you're just really reaching on this Matt... you're the only guy I know (including German, British and American Admiralties), who thinks the Battlecruiser can't be used in the role of a Battleship....
You're
way too hung-up on a name (battlecruiser) and really need to loosen-up Matt.
Flat-out, there's nothing wrong with using the Hood or Dunkerque to fill the Battleship role for their countries. The Hood was much better regarded by the Royal Navy (and Kriegsmarine for that matter) then the Queen Elizabeth was!
