German SG II: The Second Reich!

Have a look at the RBD Cretan Army SG. They are playing as a custom civ the Cretans, with a new UU, the Minoan Bullrider, it still uses old graphics however.

From 'The medieval military revolution' (edited by Ayton and Price):

"...the Teutonic Order had only about 1,200 brethren in Livonia and Prussia in the early fifteenth century."

That's about all I can add to the discussion. you're all getting out of my league. The only time I ever modified a bic was when I adjusted the flame on my cigarette lighter.:smoke:

BTW, I'll take a scotch and water, on the rocks with a twist.;)

You are correct, The Knights were not. Neither were panzers.
The Prussians would have an infantry or artillery UU most likely.

However, for game purposes, it doesnt matter because I cant change units in a workable SG format.
Hehe, I did guess it would be a super riflemen.... :) Infantry though... hmmmm.

I'll see what I can do about making some new civs, but you'll have to talk to Ghandi's head when making contact with Duke Ferdinand of Austria.

Kind of lame, isnt it?
Especially the no UUs part.
I may have to rethink this...
Maybe we need to hold this until there's a proper scenario editor. :( It's an interesting idea though.

Maybe we can play different sides in such a scenario when MP and a scenario editor comes out together. :) For the time being, we can work out the details first like UUs, civs, their attributes etc. Shld we start a thread somewhere on this? :)

Hell, you're making me all warm over about this project... :flamedevi

I'll help with the research. There's a whole floor of history books in this library I work in. let us know where the new thread is. :)

Get it yourself, Im off the clock. :p

 :D

OK, lets use this thread for now, and I'll post some attachments tomorow for you guys to download.

Any suggestions are welcome.

re UU: The Prussians were known for their staff work but a Gerneral Staff doesn't seem like a good idea for a UU. The little reading I've done points towards a Prussian musketmen type of unit. I guess the Prussians managed to take conscription to new levels while at the same time setting high physical standards for it's army 'recruits'. So how about a musket unit that's a bit stronger than normal and cheaper to make.

Aw, thats no fun! Musketmen don't last long enough...

I suggest a blitzing cavalry with an extra movement point... that would be VERY cool... but not Prussian. Or maybe...:)

Prussian Musketman stats- Cheaper than normal, plus 1 defense? 1 Movement? 1 Offense? I don't know!!!

Nations I would like to add- Czechoslovokia, Belgium, Nederlands, and make Russia the Soviet Union- Militaristic Industrious, unique unit the MiG 29? Or perhaps the T-34? T-36?

The musketmen idea comes from the age of Friedrich des Grossen. We could look for a UU from the time of the Franco-Prussian War (Bismark's heyday). I'm not sure if Prussia was still heavily into conscription then or not. That was the time of Moltke and the General Staff.

In the 1866 war against Austria, Prussia was able to mobilize its army in 4 weeks, twice as fast as Austria. Thus a cheaper Prussian UU is still indicated. These would be riflemen rather than musketmen. They carried breechloaders while the Austrians had muzzleloaders. The Austrians had the advantage in accuracy while the Prussians could fire faster.

Prussian artillery at the time was also mostly breechloaders.

I have to do some more reading about the Franco-Prussian War before I can make any more suggestions.

If there are still any spots, go ahead and put me in. I really, really, really, want a good blooad-filled game to play. Can't wait. :D

I just got an idea! One of the civs should be france, It's special unit should be "Napoleon's Guard" or "Napoleon's Elite Guard or Old Guard" Something spinning off of the personal guard that napoleon took with him as he escaped off of Elba. It could either have 1 more defense or 1 more attach and defense or something. It shoudl stay a slow unit though, because napoleon never would let them retreat.

UPDATE: On second thought, maybe not such a great idea :crazyeyes

I was thinking along the same lines as donsig.

The Prussian Army was known for its increadible leadership (militaristic trait, more leaders appear), its well trained and disiplined troops (again militaristic, cheap barracks and faster promotions) and its ingenuity (scientific).

Their foot soldiers and artillery were top-notch at the time. German artillery was the best in the world at the end of the 19th century. American troops in Cuba found out the hard way, as the Spanish had lots of it.

Im torn between using an improved cannon or a musketman.

EDIT: I used Gramphos' copy tool and made a new unit. Hopefully it works.

What should it be called? Prussian Guard?

I am also rewriting the civ data, and need some help.
We need city names, and the name/title of a leader for each civ:

Poland = King Ladislaw II
Poznan, Krakow, Warsaw, Lublin, Danzig, Katowice, Lvov
UU: Cavalry (Husaria)

Austria = Duke Ferdinand
Cities: Vienna, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Lemberg, Gratz, Klagenfurt
UU: Riflemen?

We're going to need a map for that. :) donsig?

How about just Prussian infantry? (Told you the UU shld be a super riflemen :p). I don't think they have any 'special' names for their infantry forces. How about 2 UUs for the Prussians? Is that possible?

But try not to make the Prussians too strong, otherwise we'll simply roll over everybody else.

That Polish cavalry shld be more of a knight. ;) Medieval unit you know.

The Russian UU shld be a cheaper but weaker defender unit, to reflect the vast Russian manpower (but not very well trained).

Are we creating a scenario or just a simple random game but with all the combatants as those countries associated with the rise of Germany?

Yeah. What he said. :D

Actually, I just thought it might be fun to have some different stuff this time.

I have to work a double tomorow, so try not to miss me. :p
See you guys on Thursday.
I should have some more work done on the game by then, maybe we can start it this weekend. :goodjob:

Bump! Hello?? :D Am I in, or not??

I think joespaniel is still trying to come up with a game.

He's got some Germans to deal with in Babylon though...

Heres our starting position. Not bad, eh?

This is all I have seen of the map so far. I had to start the scenario to make sure it works, and it does! :D

The Americans are now the Austrians, and the Chinese are the Poles. Poland has the "Husaria" as their UU. Austria has the "Euro-Fighter". We still have panzers, as there is no way to change it.
Hey, its the best I can do with such a crappy editor.

France, England and Russia are in as well.

The rest are random, minus any "American" civs (like Aztecs and Iroquois).

I used the culturally linked option, so Austria and Poland would be close to Prussia (thus we get to meet them early). In theory anyway.

We may be able to start tomorow. :D

So far I have confirmed donsig, KD, Ohwell and Gonzo as players.
Did I miss anybody?

I made some more changes, but I will refrain from spilling the beans at this point. Lets just say theres some nice little surprises waiting to be found. :D

Any more requests for different tribes?

I was toying with Spain, Netherlands or Italy.
