Giant Death Robots With Atomic Bombs

Oh yeah, since you were wondering about the blue-text section, it was great. You made me feel sad for the Ottomans somehow.

Update #12
Turns 280 – 293 (2013 AD)

AKA “Holy Bill of Rights, Batman, we’ve just completed history!"

●●●●●Works Cited●●●●●
Before I go any further, I need to confess that my knowledge of current events isn’t that good. Don’t get me wrong, I spend a lot of time keeping up with the news. But after all of the celebrity gossip and sports scores, I barely have time left in the day to panic about The Weather Channel’s latest sensationalist forecast (“Will next week’s snow flurries kill your family? Tonight at 11pm!”).

Thankfully, the internet community has stepped up to help me fill in the gaps in my knowledge. I would like to issue a very warm thank you to Professors MACKA0ili, parts, cpm4001, redwings1340, and MarshalN (You guys are all professors, right? I kind of just assumed). Also, I am particularly honored to have received the guidance of the prestigious Executive Dean of Camelot’s world famous Oxford University, Dr. J.S. the 9001st. (When it looked like the game had gotten too easy, these players each stepped in to create a “random event” for me to follow to make the game harder. A lot harder. And now it’s awesome.)

●●●●●A Peaceful Man For a Peaceful Time●●●●●
President George W. Bush, or “Dubya” as he is known to more educated men such as Dr. MACKA0ili, took the oath of office in 2000 AD. Culture and Gold Per Turn Increased Significantly during Dubya’s eight years. After observing the entire presidency through the historical simulation, I am confident that George W. Bush will be remembered as one the greatest America presidents of all time.

President Bush was no doubt a discerning patron of the arts, because America’s culture flourished during his leadership. His more spectacular accomplishments include the Sydney Opera House (presumably located in the Sydney District of Shanghai), Broadway, and the CN Tower. Likewise, civil rights leaders probably consider him to be one of their greatest icons due to his consistent championing of Popular Sovereignty (+1 gold per science building).

Science also flourished under the guidance of this wise leader of staggering genius. In fact, America Discovered Every Remaining Technology during his time in office.

Dubya had won his 2000 AD election by repeating one campaign promise over and over: “No matter what happens, I swear that America Will Not Declare War on anyone, no matter what” (Duration = 20 Turns). Dr. J.S. the 9001st has this to say about the political environment at the time:
After the war against the Ottomans (Ottomen?) and all of the merciless killing of soldiers, a wave of enlightenment has come over the Swedican people. They have been thinking about the value of human life and stuff, and about all of Amereden's conquering. This rapidly growing movement has decided that war is wrog, and there should be peace. They will not elect a leader (over 50% of the population by now) unless they swear to not declare war on anyone or conquer anyone if war is declared on them. (For the next 20 turns, can't DOW, and if DOWed on can only defend your territory, no attacking into enemy territory or cities.)

●●●●●Obama: Continuing the Bush Legacy●●●●●
In 2008 AD, President Barak Obama made history as the first black President, the first Muslim president, and the first non-American citizen President of the United States. Like Bush, he won the election by promising never to declare war, regardless of circumstance. “In this respect,” Obama probably told his supporters, “my presidency will be exactly like the presidency of George W. Bush.” (12 turns of forced peace remaining in 2008).

I remember hearing something about Obama winning a Nobel Peace Prize almost immediately after he took the Oath of Office. To this day I haven’t understood why. Maybe foreign leaders get really impressed whenever an American president goes more than a few months without declaring war now that America’s Military Is Many Times Stronger Than Every Other Nation’s.
Spoiler :

During the pacifistic George W. Bush’s term, I'll bet the Nobel committee sent him like 50 of those Peace Prize things.

As we all know, Obama is most famous for his signature accomplishment, “Obama Maritime Infrastructure” (+3 production in all coastal cities). The legislation passed despite especially fierce partisan bickering, and now America has a much larger fleet of Nuclear Submarines, Missile Cruisers, and Cruise Missiles.

●●●●●The End… Or Is It?●●●●●
And that, as they say, is history. From 4,000 BC to 2013 AD, there sure was a lot of non-American history! I still can’t believe that there was literally several hours of material to learn about the subject, can you?

Wait, the historical simulation hasn’t stopped running. Is it possible that is simulation can use historical data to predict events that have not yet occurred? Is it possible that it will take us… INTO THE FUTURE?! And wouldn’t “Into The Future” be a fantastic title for another good narrative that you should read?

I’m scared. I can’t even imagine what dark, forbidden secrets the future holds. Now I see why so few Americans delve into the esoteric art of non-US History… there are some things that man was not meant to know. But I can’t turn back now. I won’t.

Because I’m an American. And if anyone can McFly this TARDIS through time and survive the Excellent Adventure, an American can. So don’t you worry about me.

I’ll be back.

●●●●●Other Notes●●●●●
  • I didn't realize how cheap cruise missiles were until I tried to stockpile a few in case the “Shoot a Cruise Missile Every Turn” scenario came up. They can really give Nuclear Subs and Missile Cruisers a little extra OOMPH.
  • Wonders: Sydney Opera House of Shanghi, Broadway, CN Tower
  • Policies: Sovereignty, Maritime Infrastructure
  • New Rules: Enforced Peace for 20 Turns
  • Next turn will add the Redwing’s “Washington-Centrism Rule” (all trade routes supply food to Washington)
  • Arabia adopts Freedom.
  • World Congress now very boring. Venice keeps proposing “Repeal: Embargo Venice.” I don’t want anything else to pass, so I keep proposing something that nobody wants but also doesn’t make anyone angry (maybe it was Natural Heritage Sites). Both resolutions fail, and the process repeats every five turns.

WoW, I think that is the highest number of pointy sticks I have seen in human hand. I have seen more AI sticks but that's not a fair comparison as they don't know how to use them effectively, mostly just bashing things with them.

Looking forward to more rules taking effect, especially Alaskan freedom ;)

You should propose arts funding and repeal science funding if you haven't done that yet. Great scientists aren't going to do you anything anymore.

I can't wait to get an account of the future! Not many people can survive staring in to the prophetic computer screen. You're a brave man to be attempting such a feat. I wish you luck!

This narrative is way to good…
EDIT:
If its not to late I'd like to propose a rule:
Nationalist Competitiveness(may only occur after Washington-Centrism rule)
The Swedericans have heard the the wave of pure American nationalism and are inspired! The peoples of Sweden & South Swederica have nationalism coursing through their very viens.
Rule: At least 1/3 of trade caravans must be food, & sent to Camelot & a city in South Sweferica that is now the defacto-Capital of South Swederica, maybe Rio, if its in the game.

I once again laughed at the blue section(the place where you linked to my thread, which, btw, is probably not finished yet). Thanks, and once more good update. :goodjob:

Yeah, without science victory I've been able to produce a lot of advanced units.

Me too.

Added. Thanks!

Will do.

Or as Count Accountant says, perhaps the humor is too subtle, I will try again :D

Silverman6083 and Maxym are correct; this was intended as a joke. Specifically, it was intended as a joke at the expense of ignorant Americans who actually believe that sort of thing. Please accept my apologies if this joke fell flat; it was not meant to be offensive.

Great update once again, can't wait to see what the future holds for sweedamerica. Thanks for making me a professor (I got my bs in b.s. and my phd in nick names). If only Thursday would come sooner...

Just as he's going into the future in his story, can we go into the future to Thursday to get an update right away?

Isn't that the intended way?

I use quick combat, so I can't say I've ever seen them perform their attacks, but the "combat" is purely cosmetic, the fight is decided the moment the attack order is given.

Just as he's going into the future in his story, can we go into the future to Thursday to get an update right away?

I second this… :D

Thank you all for the very kind words of encouragement. It really does give me energy to read your positive feedback :)

Explanation and Apology for Delay in Update:
All,

I had previously indicated that I planned to post an update by this time. I am deeply embarrassed to admit that I cannot meet this deadline. I need to push the update back to Sunday, September 22nd.

I am still working on the project for work that has kept me so busy this week. It is already 11:30pm here, and I think I have two or three more hours before I'm finished. If I attempted to also cram in the update tonight, it would be of substantially lower quality than my previous updates.

I do not want to be the kind of person who reneges on any sort of commitment, no matter how informal or minor. I remain committed and excited by this game, and I do think that the next update will be worth the wait. Again, please accept my apologies for failing to deliver what I said I would. I will take all reasonable steps possible to limit the risk of putting myself in this situation again.

Sincerest apologies,

-John (CountAccountant)

As much as I love reading your updates, I'll get the same enjoyment out of them whether they come now or in a month. Whoever you're doing your project for, however, probably can't honestly say the same thing :). Civ is a game, so play it when you want to and for yourself, not for us. :)
