Has anybody tried the scenario yet? Research is awfully slow and since there are no campuses, I really wonder how to get research done. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The God of War belief gives science equal to half the combat strength of each unit killed. Particularly good if you're playing as Egypt as you will have a lot of invading forces to deal with.

Is that a change in the patch/scenario? That used to be faith, not science.

Scenario only. It comes with its own set of beliefs that Nubia and Egypt compete for, each with the appropriate god's name and head as its icon. It's a nice touch (one of many in this scenario).

Having completed the scenario (albeit on the default Prince), I didn't have a huge problem with research - it's true you can't get Campuses, but the Nileometer building provides science for riverside tiles. Also Eurekas are as important as ever.

I just finished a King game and your cities grow large so fast science wasn't an issue. Key thing was noticing which technologies give your free settlers as you can't build them.

I tried it with both sides on deity. Standard conquest seemed like a valid option. Apparently you don't even have to build the temples, just killing Egypt/Nubia will do the trick. So many clicks and turns wasted on building holy sites and such :)
Oh well, didn't bother with those in the second run. Just spammed units and the occasional commercial hub to avoid bankruptcy.
Playing as Egypt was kind of tedious, though. Even when Nubia had only one city left, she seemed to spawn something like 4 swordsmen and 2 pitati archers every 3 turns
Also, it really sucks that the great generals can't be killed.

I think I killed a great general from Persia invasion army.

You need 7 cities with temples for "religious" win or take all capitals for "domination" apparently. First game I botched by not producing enough holy sites/faith, so quit. Second game I made push to take out all of Egypt to get their holy cities, but then won a domination victory by mistake.

Possible game problem:
1) The game says you need the capital of every other civ, and Egypt is 1, plus there are like 3 others that spawn in the Mediterranean throughout the game. If all you need is to take out Egypt for a domination victory, then the scenario is really just at 1 on 1 battle for a domination win, but then why have it as a victory condition in this scenario? Or is this a glitch not needing capitals from the Med. spawned civs?

Other questions about the game:
2) Is there a balance issue between playing as Nubia vs Egypt (north vs south starts)? As Nubia u can hide in the south and grow and use Cleo as a buffer. But I suspect if you played as Egypt you would have the Med. civs to deal with and AI Nubia nipping at your heels, especially on higher difficulties. Peoples experiences playing Nubia vs Egypt?
3) Balance issue, if you try for the "religious victory" then you need 7 cities with Temples, but you only get five settlers, so you must war. Attacking Egypt/Nubia is permanent war for the rest of the game, but take city states, and you can stay at peace with Egypt/Nubia?
4) Religious victory needs 7 city+ 3 relig. bld. in each, Oblisk (100 faith), Shrine (250) and Temp Amun (400). So that is 750 faith per city, times 7 = 5250 faith total, and if you divide that by 125 turns you need to generate an average of 42 faith per turn (not how it would really happen in a game). Is this realistic with captured cities suffering from occupied penalties? Note, I never crossed the Med. and took those cities, do they suffer from occupied city penalties?

I think I killed a great general from Persia invasion army.

Usually all great people just teleport to the closest city when attacked. Don't know what happens when there is no city.

There's already this thread: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/gifts-of-the-nile-scenario.620430/

I also stumbled upon a domination victory in my first game. I just thought I'd eliminate Egypt, so I can build my temples in peace. However, I could have easily built the required temples within time. There's one belief that gives a 30% discount on faith purchases and another one that gives +2 faith per holy site building. Additionally, each citizen working on a holy site gives +2 faith. Shouldn't be too hard to gain enough.

At least on deity, when I captured Egypt's cities, there were already holy sites with obelisks and shrines in 7 of them. I suppose that on lower difficulties you can't get a similar "discount".

edit: forgot to mention, but naturally sending 3 or 6 envoys to a religious city state will give an extra 2 or 4 faith per holy site, respectively.

My first game with Nubia was a domination victory. Not really difficult but a lot of fun no question. The Nubian archers are very strong.
Egypt has not researched / built the unique chariot to counter.

I love the Barbarian major events:goodjob:
I love the concept of Cataracts:clap: I hope their graphic also works as cliffs in coastal waters.
They would be so great in a Pirates of the Caribbean scenario.

But I had to say that I did not like most of the changes in the user interface. The tile description comes too hard. In the diplomatic negotiation the extra box for gold is a complication. The UI needs a lot of work unchanged but at the right places and in an improved manner.

Nice. What policies/governments did you use and what tech/civic paths did you follow? I feel like the guide could use more detail in those respects...

Ok. I won with Nubia. Domination. Deity. Turn 62. (I tried that after reading this thread).

Though it was rather underwhelming. Brute force.

Egypt was more fun :egypt:

Yes, Egypt does seem to be a lot more fun, and a lot easier too.
I'm trying to win with Nubia by Temples of Amun, that's not so easy!

So you can win simply by destroying the other civ? :O
