Give me 18, but not on Earth - new PBEM

Re: reloading - you can reload and reply battles as often as you'd like but the results won't change. IE, the "new random seed on reload" button has not been checked, therefore the random seed is the random seed and you can't change the outcome of battles.

Of course "power scouting" (great term!) is possible and unenforcable as well... but hey if you want to waste your time to reload the game 6 times to see an additional square, go for it. Frowned upon, but I'm not too worried... the end game is going to be where the REAL action is, and by then we will all know the map!

As for reloading if you make the mistake of hitting "enter" too early or something like that... thats perfectly reasonable and in fact I've done it once already.

The thing is, you can change the order in which you attack (different promotions, units, etc.), and have different results, Deztro left the building because of this, saying "everyone does it". No new random seed makes it easier to test all the combos, since you always get the same results.

I guess that is true, but I would hope everyone knows its discouraged / frowned upon. I play this game like a gentleman and try to avoid reloading if at all possible. As far as I'm concerned if someone is playing cheap like that, then thats on them. I won't be selling my soul to the devil just to win a computer game. I believe in karma and it will come back to you in spades.

Power scouting for units is what I was getting at. In the la nina game, if I had power scouted, I could have knocked out another galleon, but I only found where a stack of 2 galleons had run away to when I had moved my last frigate, so I killed one, but couldn't kill the other since I had used all my other hunting moves looking for the stack. I could have reloaded and sent all my frigates to where I now knew the galleons were. Not cool. I don't like to cheat.

I'm glad to hear it and hope everyone else is the same way too. Statistically thats improbable with such a large group but... karma will come at them and if it becomes too obvious I'm sure the masses would have no problem rising up and making a statement either!

It's Boy George time then?

Link to video.

EDIT: Note that karma came to Boy George; he said he was a man without conviction there, before his convictions for various criminal offences ;)

EDIT2: And that's some criminal miming, and acting, going on in that video.

Reloading will always be discussed and :(

We go on....Give_me_18,_but_not_on_Earth_BC-3640_to_Majic.CivBeyondSwordSave

Ugh Rules are always brought up well after turns have been played many times
1 It is common to NOT communicate with other players until you meet them
2 It is common to NOT allow reloads (it is true about the seed but it doesn't stop you from changing the outcome by changing which unit you use, or which direction you scout
(ParadigmShifter hit on this note very good)

Other ideas should be discussed now! This is very important, if a known loop hole/cheat etc. in the game's code is used and another player disagrees with its use, you stand to lose that player or the integrity of the game.

Here a 2 examples of things that are not necessarily cheats but always come up;
1 Blocking, this is placing units on all coastal plots so units can not be disembarked (prior to Amphibious assault)
2 Unit stack composition, this maybe what was meant about Elephants, a maxed out stack of elephants is a tough beast to handle. (I am not strictly opposed to this because if you are able to amass this kind of stack or strategy, you might have left your homeland less guarded, besides if your neighbor is sporting a particular unit and you do not train that unit's counter you have allowed yourself a way to be defeated)

Interesting point.

Was that what Ruff meant ?

I'm not sure I like that one. What if you have Ivory, but no Copper or Iron ?
Are you supposed to just roll over and die ?

Anyway, spears and cats are an adequate counter against elephants...

Elephants are powerful yes... until GUNS!

Elephants are perfectly reasonable within the game... I trust in the creators of Civ to make the game able to be played with everything in tact. If your neighbors has elephants then build some spears and hope for the best. Theres a reason Attila the Hun was powerful for a period of time... all resources become valuable in their own way throughout the various stages of history, dealing with something like Elephants is what makes the game a challenge!

As for blocking - this is also a valid strategy as far as i'm concerned. If you decide to block the shorelines with units, then you will be building a LOT of units. Normady was an almost impossible invasion because the Germans blocked the shorelines... someone doing this will be spending a lot of time doing it and give up time/resources in other areas. And short of someone lining the entire coast of a small island, it will take a TON of units and there will still be a hole. And if someone spends the time to do that then good for them, we can crush them once we get marines!

Again, I would hope everyone here has the proper gamesmanship to not reload, but other than that, anything else within the realm of the game is legal and allowed. I believe the game is balanced naturally. If you have a problem with something feel free to bring it up and if the majority disagrees then we will surely combine forces to crush them!

turn played and sent - I will have my pbem emailer set up for next turn.

Thanks Ruff - my turn done as well, GPS to Calanthian...

Seamless replacement by me, I didnt even have to do 1 turn myself and kept myself in the dark about Ormylar's status!!! Other than bottom of the scoreboard obviously... Ruff is in for a challenge!

I still haven´t got an answer to the question how many moons this planet owns. If nobody has a problem with that, I will go with two. Is that okay for everyone?
