Done! I will contact your in-game to execute it.
BTW - I have started to write 'reports' on my pbem games (you have to do something while waiting for the turns to arrive). I was thinking on writing a report for my civ4 website (not on a discussion forum) for this game (it depends on my civ status when I see it) and holding back all reports until they are old (ie the game is 50+ turns ahead of my report) or completely over. Any objections from the other players?
Also, can someone point me to the 'rules' for this game? Things like 'out of game contact', 'spies', 'elephants', etc.
The only rules are that there are no rules!!
No seriously - tech trading is disabled completely, so there will be no teching pacts/cliques. The entire game is made up on humans, so diplomacy is only limited to your imagination and anything the game itself limits you to. Anything allowable by the game settings and BTS are part of the game, including spies and yes, even elephants. I'm sure its possible that we could have a few of the "power players" in the game gang up to wipe the less experienced players from the game... but the reverse could also happen, if you act like a dick to the lesser players they may combine forces and take you out 6 on 1. I have had multiple players mention to me that they would have no problem organizing smaller civs and ganging up on a power civ if they are being a bully...
and of course SOMEONE needs to win the game, which means eventually SOMEONE is going to be launching a ship or becoming too powerful or too cultured... which I would expect means the rest of us would work to stop them in order to advance our own causes and delay so WE could win. I expect the end game will be CRAZY.
As for out of game contact - I would say generally its discouraged if you havent actually made contact in the game yet, but really theres no way I can enforce it, so being realistic it is probably happening in some form. The only good news is even if I decide to team up with someone who's halfway across the world, theres not much we can do to help each other short of talking about the map... so I'm not too worried about it. Plenty of people have already been dropping huge hints about who is around them with their PBEM tracker messages, so you can begin to see what groupings we have already in terms of neighborhoods.
In a similar note, I am also playing "Narrator" in this game along with turn police and the American Indians... I will be randomly sending some PM's and talking to folks about the game, trying to get some info for a public story of some sort to post. This will be for no other reason other than to keep interest in the game at its peak. Also it can be useful to help some understand that the game can be won in other ways and potentially try to alert folks about someone heading towards a victory condition giving us all plenty of time to figure out a way to slow them down/stop them. Generally though, the point is only to entertain everyone and help make "out of game contact" more and more useless.
Speaking of which, we are coming up on the end of 10 turns of peace... a perfect time to take a survey about military strength!
Also there is the "role-play optional" side of the game... some are participating, most are not. But since it takes so long between turns and the game moves so slowly, writing stories are encouraged and will help keep the game interesting! I also try to stay "in character" when I am talking to folks within the game.
All that being said - I have no problem with you writing reports about the game 50 turns after the fact... in fact I'd be fine with you writing reports about the game as its in progress! As long as you are fine with the public information, go for it. Of course giving away state secrets of a neighbor or mentioning something about a neighbor that said neighbor might not have wanted public would probably be frowned upon and you'd have to deal with the consquences! Ideally you should get permission if writing about others' civs...
Hope this helps! The point of this game is to make it as most like real life as possible, so your only bounds are your imagination!
