God damn this game is good

I like Civ V too. It has its problems, notably not being challenging enough on the highest levels, but on the whole is still much more fun than Civ IV. The problems will be addressed and the game will get even better.

I agree with Luckystrike77. I think what has happened at release, when someone first plays Civ V, it just feels really different. Then, after more then a few games its just starts to grow on you strong like it did way back during the original Civ days. After even more games, tons of new strategies start coming around and the flow of the game all comes together. Then you quickly realize, man this game is rocking and I am beginning to feel its the best of the series. The more I played Civ V, the better it has got. My last few games were downright amazing. Not sure if anyone seen my response to a thread where I talk about having to escort my cargo ship from an island? Anyway it had the SS cockpit onboard (yes my last part) and towards the last several turns of the game, it had to travel like 5 turns across the ocean to my capital. I won a tech victory with only a couple turns left! This was epic and memoriable, and just one of those Civ moments I will never forget. Hollywood could make a movie on the way that game played out  Oh and you should see my current game, it is crazy.

God, can't wait till the C++ SDK is released.

The Eden mod for Civ 5 will be nuts. I don't think the guys who worked on FFH and its various modmods will be disappoint us.

Yea, I agree it's the best game in the series, despite heavy critics. Anyway most people who enjoy it don't post complains on the forum, or probably don't post at all. And this is valid not only for Civ, but for most games.

It's totally the oposite. When I started playing civ5, since so many things were new, I liked it a lot, even tho seeing it's problems. Now that the things aren't new anymore, and the big problems are still there, it's not fun anymore.

Whoa lets not get ahead of ourselves ;) Fully expansion'ed and patched and modded Civ4 is a surefire contender for the greatest computer game of all time.

I admit I stopped playing it for about 2 weeks, but then I went back to it again.

It's seriously flawed and that fact can't be ignored, but it's still kinda fun. I've got no doubts at all that it will be absolutely great when it's finished.

Even with that, Firaxis better be very generous from now on. I don't want to see any more paid DLC civs until the game is finished.

Seriously, if something has to die, let it be the 1 promo cat/treb. Bigmen aren't built in a day (unless you have many spare GG's!) and man it hurts to lose a 9/10 exp cr2 sword or that ubermedic trying to exp for morale.

Cheers!

imho this is, potentially, the best Civ game by some distance.

Civ IV was very good, but imho, Civ V is potentially another step up, but, as many have pointed out, it has a long way to go, even after the patch. However, I think that, in time, it will get there...

I think it's so unfair that the Distributors put so much pressure to release games long before they are ready. The writers have no opportunity to finish things before they release, or even do any proper testing. I would prefer to wait 3 or 4 extra months for a finished product. However, that is not likely to happen, as commercial pressures and money are more important to these people than finished games!

I loved it until I tried to mod it. Now I just want to do a Hulk impression.....

Just a matter of personal taste, but I prefer it to be delivered faster and with decent quality rather than wait 6 months for maybe 5% improvement in gameplay. Seriously I'm sick of those Blizzard videos revealing one more unit each time (...another unit again? where is the freaking game?).

I love Civ V too. It's so superior to Civ IV in every way.

Sure, there will always be backward people living in the past and wanting stacks of doom back, but apart from this 1% vocal minority, I think nearly everybody agrees Civ V is the best Civ ever.

Only if you count all the players in. That is, all the players who never played civ or at least never were real fanatics. Then yes, nearly everybody likes civ5 more. Because 90% of the computer game players weren't civilizartion fanatics, and that crowd likes civ5 because it's so... less civ.

@kaltorak : I played every Civ from Civ 1 and I still think Civ 5 is the best, by far.

There goes your theory, I guess.

Yes sure, i got pwnt!!!!

seriously...
You are not the only one who did and loves civ5. There is no abslute truth about tastes. For example, I liked hellgate:london, and look at it's success xD

I have only read the first page of this thread and I am sad to see that a guy gets flamed and trolled just because he likes the game, what has happened to this boards :(

Eh. I'll just quote you again.

I'm not quite sure I undertand that enigmatic quote based post. If you are disagreeing with him, he just said "contender", and that's a pretty valid asumption beeing in the civ fanatics forums don't you think? :)
