Got a bug out bag?

I used to have something like that in my car, only without a firearm. It had water, some aspirin, matches, a blanket, two MREs and a flashlight. Now that I don't have a car, I'm not sure I have much in the way of emergency prep besides flashlights and some stored water.
As a Mormon aren't you supposed to have six months worth of supplies?

Re : preparedness, I have a 60lb bucket of honey (about 59 lbs left) and a Brita water filter. I live in the most densely populated state in the US. Not so prepared I'm afraid.

It's actually more than that. As an apartment dweller, i simply don't have enough room to store that much food. When I lived in Ohio, we had several months (not sure if we had six though) stored in our basement. I can't envision too many scenarios, given my current location, where I would need to hunker down more than 2 weeks.

Aside from emergency stuff in the SUV, no. My liberal re-education classes have taught me to not be reliant on myself, but to suck at the nanny state's teat.

I have a rainwater collection system, camping gear good to -30C or so, and I buy everything in bulk, so I've always got plenty of dry and canned food.
I used to have one of those, but it attached to my car. Seeing as how I no longer have a car, I had to get rid of it. I could get it back if I should ever come into possession of another vehicle, though.

I was chatting with Zkribbler today after our walk and he bugged out of LA during the Rodney King riots, but did not have a bug out bag. Luckily there were still eateries open somewhere. ;) We didn't get that far in our chat on the subject but the riots were contained. :dunno:

No BugOutBag. Got meself more of a lie-low house. Need to fix the manual pumpt to the well and reset one of the stoves inside the house, and I should be able to live there, if in 19th c. style. Got some converting to do in one of the outhouses for a proper old-fashioned privy as well. That, and convert the lawn into a potato growing operation. It's large enough we might even manage to scratch a living from the potatoes. Enough dry firewood for the winter would be a main concern.

Its good timing Verbose, with peak oil happening. In 10 years its a different world imo. So what's your thinking regarding the bug out? Why you getting set up to lie low?

Iv got some walking shoes, a water bottle, and my dog. Plus a slug gun. Im sure ill be fine... Nothing bad could ever happen here. My neighbours got loads of guns, ill just and take his.

I'm not.:) We just wanted to live in the countryside, but outside the big city close enough for the amenities. Took a while to find something like that, but a house from 1915 (you want to avoid the 1917-19 ones due to shoddy wartime build quality, but the timber for ours was laid up in 1914 still at peace) with a 4000 m2 garden and several outhouses (chicken coop, pig pen, sadly no room for a couple of horses) is precisely what we wanted. And less than 10 km from the city.

You only need four of those for six months worth of Calories, I'm sure you could stuff that into a closet.

New Bug Out plan: drive to mom's cabin in Montana. Hunt antelope for meat. Now to stockpile 200 gallons of fuel....

Pretty much this.

Although I suppose our RV could be used as the ultimate "bugout bag" screw walking.

I'm counting on no catastrophic events until March. After that, I'll be living in urban Japan so I assume I won't need a gun or food stocks.

... known-good neighbors ...

In the unlikely but possible scenario when the garbage had not been picked up for weeks, when there has been no electricity for weeks and all the food in the refrigerator is spoiled and long gone, when there has been no internet and cell phone and no cfc, no running water, when you are raiding your supplies everyday and the bug out bag is always near you...

Will your neighbors still be good?

I wonder. Seeing how much of these daily amenities we take for granted and how dependent I was on these I started making a bug out bag myself a few months back. Guns and bullets are non-renewable ammo and won't last long; but I am getting very good at wielding my Ka-Bar Tanto knife!!!

Lets say a local, regional, or national emergency comes about, are you ready to leave in a hot hurry? Have you prepared a bag of stuff that will keep you alive when you have to bug out...

Nope.

But I do have two crazy friends who have too much money for their own good. They both have Zombie survival kits and plans to flee to Northern Ontario should crap go down. I will just tag along with them should anything happen.

You'll just bludgeon some small confused Asians to death and eat them?

Nope.

North Ontario like Thunder Bay, or Northern Ontario like Attawapiskat?
