Hey, guys! I literally got obsessed by the game attached. I play Lincoln isolation on Immortal.
Weird thing is I got both Pyramids AND Great Wall on turn 66, I got Astro on turn 129, which I guess is not that bad. The main land appears to be really close.

BUT: whatever I do next I fail to win. Now, after trying several times of course I could get into good position, but that'll be because of map knowledge.

Please have a look and save me from finally going crazy.

What is your plan after Astro? What problem did you encounter?

With Mids and GLH you should be in great shape here moving forward.

Few thoughts:

1) Queue up Galleys in coastal cites on turn 129. Switch to Slavery on Turn 130. Whip Galleons. Your priority is find AIs asap and OB to get those juicy trade routes

2) Focus on expansion next. Fill up the land mass . Lotsa good spots.

3) Wash can be cottaged entirely. Whales/clams at least shoulda been settled much sooner. So close and could have helped with cottage growth for Wash

4) Stop worker and start chopping Wash, which can grow to size 10 and produce settlers

I mighta used GW for fail gold instead of completing it.

oh..work cottages the turn anarchy. GPP is stagnate, but cottage growth is not

edit: weird..there was a happy that disappeared in Wash so it has to stay at size 9 for now. (duh..astro obsoleted the monument)

edit: Why did you settle Gspy in New York? If you are going to settle it, settle it in Washington. That's a waste. But I'd rather have used it for a well timed Golden Age.

edit: You have a cottage on a tile that can't be worked in the NW corner.

Attaching save from t138. Meet 3 AIs in real quick from earlier save and have foreign trade routes and a coupla happies. Trade for CS and a few other things. Switch to Bureau and back to Caste as soon as I could. 2 cities settled with a settler standing on the rice down south to settle next turn. Settlers/workers/wbs a priority at the moment. Honestly, you probably could have expanded a bit more earlier here with GLH.

You can see Spanish cultural borders on your save. You likely could of met her years ago if you settled near her borders. Some of those sea food sites were great. Doublefish/rice looks great.

5 cities by 350ad is too slow expansion wise. You don't win immortal with 5 cities. Land = power. More cities and bigger economy gives you lead on civ 4.

This map screams early GLH and rex quickly. Mids too. (You did build both albeit GLH rather late). With early astronomy and 10-12 cities your economy would of been booming.

I agree with Lymond the shape of the land meant barbs wre not a great risk here. Fail gold can be great to help your science. Never really found great spies very useful when semi isolated.

Well, there is an argument of staying rather small in iso for early Astro, but with GLH here, I'd at least have 2 or 3 more cities much earlier.

:o I never thought of that.
Does that mean you should work mines instead of farms during anarchy, too, in case a resource pops?
Not sure. Might work ...never thought of it. Your talkin' very low odds there.

Here's a t154 save. Close to Lib ..though I'd hold off on that as long as I can for something.

10 cities with a settler on the move.

Traded for techs, maps, and gold here and there.

Rejected a Rags demand..oops..ha...well I'll try to bribe him on someone later...he's backwards. Or just kill him first.

Mansa is stronk here. 15 cities and Gandhi vassal. A peculiarity of fractal maps sometimes allow an AI to blow up with land while adjacent to an AI like Gandhi who sometimes expands slow, plus constant Rag wars nerfed him.

But very winnable game one way or another. 4 more cites at least on current landmass, with some islands of nothingness to the SW....well, one decent barb city.

This game would be in a bit better shape if you had expanded a bit more early on. At least 3 or 4 cities such as the ones seen here.

Boston/Wash/Philly all very close on GPs. Boston could pop a GS right now, but holding back there so I can have Wash finish it's guy first (Boston and Philly max specs that turn), then Philly next and then Boston. Really at this point GMs are better and maybe a Golden Age if you had never run one yet.

Cottages don't grow during anarchy (I just tested it to make sure); I'm pretty sure mines won't pop resources during anarchy either.

Thanks everyone, especially @lymond ! I see that my problem afte Astro was kind of a loose focus. Before Astro it's a bit obvious: Pyramids, Caste, build wealth, bulb. But after that you have too many choices: you want Taj, you want Lib, you want to kill someone, you must expand. Expanding is #1, got it.
