GOTM #13 *Spoilers* Thread

VERY STRANGE GAME.

Started off just like the rest of you, got a settler with the first goodie hut and discoverd mysticisme with second but then Russia declared war on me and attacked my panther warrior and LOST starting my GA at about 3500 BC !!!!

A very early GA with only two cities, arghhh.

Clobberd Russia out of existence giving them a final score of 17 points. That should teach them :jump:

Will influence my final score on this game since I did not get a chance to take full advantage of my GA. Ah well sh** happens.

MPF:

It does take awhile to research MapMaking. How did you manage to get it by 3500BC? Without MapMaking, we couldn't possibly get to the Roman and Chinese Island.

Youre right, got confused, meant Russia of course (am now 1300 AD so bit of track with what happend so early, will edit my origenal post to correct this).

Nice side-competition.

Wich Civ has scored the lowest on the histograph and is out of the game. Here is a picture of my histograph (currently in 1300 AD) but kicked Russia out of the game early as the gave me a unplanned GA at about 3500 BC arghh.

My input is Russia with only 17 points :D

As you continue to play that score will go down. So until you finish we can't compare, but I'll give you a run for your money. ;)

GREAT, that means it will go down some more. I will post my final score for Russia when I finish the game. Kind of curious about how much it will drop. :D

You win! Since I didn't take anyone out until I got iron (a little bit after 800BC).

Your at 1300AD so a little more than half. :)

CB, just checked an old save and at 90 BC they had 33 points. Now in 1300 AD its down to 17. Is the drop in points turn based or time based? Seems I will finish with an end-score for Russia of something between 7-9 points. :D

Anyone with lower predictions for an end-score of a civ?

The chance of a warrior destroying an Aztec Jaguar warrior is not very high because the Jag Warrior can retreat. So if your of a military mind, seeing a foreign worker in the open is a great opportunity. Capturing a worker early in the game is a great victory and hampers the development of the targeted civ. If the opposing civ counter attacks, if they win you still have the worker so it's pretty much an even trade, if it's a draw you have won a worker and if they lose you go to a Golden Age. In my case I went to a Golden Age and was fairly soon pumping out a Jag Warrior every turn and overpowered the Russian. The Aztec UU is most powerful right at the start of the game and that's the best time to put them into action. ;)

Wow, lots of milkers here. :)

Is anyone else going for early conquest/domination? I'm trying to decide which will be easier to get first.

If you can finish before 1150AD then conquest will probably easier, any later and you will be hitting domination.

That was exactly what I did. Since Jaguar Warrior could run away very fast, I mostly just declared war, captured the workers, destroyed improvement, and ran away from battle until I got iron. This was the first time I ever played the Aztec; therefore, I didn't know the full potential of the Jaguar Warrior.:( However, I successfully hampered the development of all the AIs within my island at the early stage.:)

I'm hoping to get in the 12K range, but it will be tough.

Hmm. This Map is 18% larger than GOTM12. Getting anything above 11500 would be really good considering the amount of oppisition and the map type. Continents means slow domination limit.

I have started the GOTM late, but will be aiming for more realistic scores:)

Cartouche Bee - Good discussion of the logic behind the strategy! I went one step further, and attacked a Russian Settler/Warrior pair to start my first war with Russia. My Veteran Jaguar Warrior is likely to defeat the Russian Regular Warrior, can retreat if losing, and gets two workers with no chance for immediate retaliation when victorious. (Even safer strategy would be to dedicate two Jaguar Warriors for this purpose, in case the first one lost.)

DaveMcW - Most everyone conquered all the adjacent civs very early. Conquering the remote civs is the difficult part, especially early on!

:crazyeye: This must be the most crazy AI I have ever meet.
Must have been all that time he spent in the desert! ;)

I have started my milking bout the same time as CB. It should be interesting to compare the power ranking.

I just want to add that an early JW attack is no gambit. I took out Moscow before they had a second spearman with 5 JW, losing none. Simple clean battle. Early leader plus Pyramids made fast growth really easy. Moscow also a very nice position for an early palace jump after placing an early FB in the centre of the continent. The Roman/Chinese island also very nice for rushed later palace....

None of my continent inhabitant ever saw iron! JW resource denial works with some aggresion!;)

I think it's possible for CB or thefrenchzulu to get 12K in the final score. Since they finished off the Rusian early, they could use those cows to pump out extra settlers. And with their playing style, they could have the whole island before 10AD. Anyway, I don't know why CB wants to leave me in suspense.;)

Your right, the Russians never got a chance to set out another settler in my game but I used this with the Persians. :)
