Goz -10 Slow Motion is our Potion

1350ad
I swapped a lot of cavalry builds off, as I think the time for cavalry is over.

1355ad
Attack Chalcedon. Artillery redline all the defenders:

Make army with leader.

17/17 knight army falls to 9/17 killing a redlined infantry.
Vet cav dies to a 2/4 cav who I omitted to redline somehow. The Byz cav suffers no loss of HP so I wouldn’t have won anyway.
Vet cav kills ¼ rifle.
Elite cav kills ½ rifle
Vet cav kills ½ rifle
Vet cav kills ½ cav
¾ cav kills ¼ cav
4/5 cav kills ¼ cav (and a transport underneath) to take the town.
There were 7 defenders.

1360
Sumeria is building the UN: unwelcome news!
Finish Wall Street.

1365
Byzantine sneak around to retake Chaledon

Attack Nicea (after relining defenders)
12/12 infantry army falls to 7/12 killing redlined infantry
13/13 cav army falls to 3/13 killing redlined infantry.
Vet cav kills redlined infantry without sustaining damage.
Elite cav kills redlined cav
Elite cav kills redlined cav
Vet cav kills redlined cav and takes the town.

Attack Chaledon again
It has a rifle and a cav which are recaptured with the loss of one cav.

Build Centralia between Nicea and Chaledon.

Attempt a safe steal from Sumeria. Our agent gets away but a lot of money is wasted for nothing.

1370
New Salamanca built on north coast on Byzantine front.

Ibt Chaledon is deposed: Unlucky but I guess I should have abandoned it.

1375
Cjaledon recaptured without loss.

Symra (size 1 after bombardment is autorazed when a infantry kills a redlined infantry defender). A ship is killed as well.

Varna, which has been bombarded heavily for 2 turns falls as 2 armies reach it and kill redlined infantry defenders.

New Niagra Falls built next to Symra’s ruins, to allow artillery to reach next target.

Attack Trezebond (fully bombarded, all redlined defenders, size < 7 walls destroyed).
Elite cav dies to ¼ infantry.
Elite cav dies to ¼ infantry
Vet cav relines but then kills a ¼ infantry.
Vet cav promotes killing a redlined infantry.
Elite cav kills redlined infantry.
Vet cav kills redlined infantry and takes town, destroying a boat as well.

The Byzantines have just one town left on our island. There is a bit of a risk of flips in the captured towns as well though.

We have enough cash again to try an immediate steal from Sumeria. I haven’t done it, as I don’t fancy my chances (having failed at a safe steal).
Sumeria are at some risk of steaming away, but hopefully we can peg them back. A few successful steals to give us bombers and tanks would help.

I have set most towns peaceful builds again (quite the builder really), as I think we need a solid economy more than anything else.

We need to monitor that UN build. If the Sumerians get close we might need to go to war with them and bring in a dogpile so they won't hold a vote.

We'll also need to start watching for spaceship builds. This one might be close.

I think we need to press on with taking more Byzantine cities. The island hopping needs to start somewhere, why not with Theodora's islands. We'll also need to get some Marines to finish her off.

Got it and play it tomorrow.

Extortion, theft and sea borne destruction are the orders of the day.

For some reason I find a weird interest playing after Brother Bede. My main task is always to find the hidden coin(s), which he haphazardly just leave around.

In that French game I found a coin twice! after he sloppily left it to me. And it was another game (feudalism?), where he went totally overboard and I found 3gpt right away.

I can't wait for my turns.

Scurries to reopen the save to make sure there aren't any spare coins lying around....post coming up!

Pretty quiet for a while moving troops into seige positions at Heraclea. I also started some destroyer builds and upgraded the galleon fleet (all three) and started them around the horn to go island hopping to the south

Renegotiate with Mursilis so we can make a treaty with Carthage when Hannibal has some more cash

Cash accumulates pretty quick at 900+ per turn

The airfleet is handy at the field outside Caughnagawa with a few still based in Centralia, but since Theo doesn't know how to fly I am not overly concerned about having them in town.

The Byzantine fleet is in our northern waters begging for a sinking, and there is a task force heading into the islands, probably for a landing at Chondote again. Cash piles up nicely so by the time you get enough to steal MotTrans and build some tanks you can build an army for them. The tankers won't be much use on the little islands to the south but will come in handy for an invasion to the north. Varna was cpatured and burned and there is a settler ready to replace it. And we can pop out another to settle the SW corner once the Byzantine culture down there is a little weaker.

Ended the war with Hannibal but only got a few gold from him (85). He doesn't have anything else of much use.

WE should be getting the Wall Street message anytime now and our income is growing nicely. I think it is 950+ on its way to a thousand.

Got it and will continue on the same path.

With all that gold, I don't think I need to bother to look for those missing cold-pieces. But I'll do it anyways.

How is Sumeria looking on its UN build? We may need to plan a dogpile soon.

Why? Do they have any chance of winning as things stand? They aren't getting the votes of anyone on their island, nor the Hittites, nor us. They are just pouring 1000s (or rather 600s) into a useless wonder for them. Unless of course I am remembering the situation wrong.

Pre-turn - Our cities are in good order, make a couple of small changes for growth and set the capitol to build armies. Start to fiddle around with the specialists, but think the better of it and leave them be.

Sell Carthage Steel for 40gpt and ivory, Japan get Ironclads for their 8gpt. These deals take us to 1001gpt. :)

1405AD - Sumeria starts the Manhattan Project.

Entertain myself by redlining 10 Byz vessels and then sink them with bombers.

Land a taskforce by the small island town Brusa.

1410AD - Byz lands 5 units and a settler on our W side, kill them. Sink 6 more ships.

Our bombing raid over Brusa is quite ineffective, so I send over half a dozen arties.

1415AD - Wonder-happy Sumerians Build the UN.

We can now build tanks, after a safe steal from Sumeria.

Raze Brusa.

Join native workers in our western towns to speed up the production of transports, we have over 70 slaves on the mainland. I will join the rest of the natives next turn, I see no reason to keep them and production is more important now.

1420AD - We build our first tanks.

Sink 3 Byz ships.

Renew alliance with Hittites against Byz, giving iron and saltpeter and get 92gpt.

1425AD - Sumeria starts SETI.

4 more Byz ships found a salty grave.

This was a quiet turnset, next player can sort out what to send and where to. We have some transports and destroyers and more coming. 2 transports are ready on the W side, so we can take out Septum. Others are almost ready for the assault N, to give the Byz islands a go.

So next turnset will be more eventful. :)

We should consider the dogpile against Sumeria, they are way ahead and needs to be stopped.

And we almost have enough gold for another steal.

I have it, but I won't get to play until tomorrow evening.

Do we want to start the dogpile on Sumeria now? Everyone try and weigh in during the next 22 hours or so.

We are going to need a toehold on a northern island to put much of a dent in Sumeria, so may be take a Byzantine town in the far north first?

I'm for dogpiling on Sumeria, but we should not ally with thier neighbors (Carthage and Japan) as I think they'll just get swallowed up rather quickly. Perhaps if we ally some offshore foes, they will waste thier time building transports etc for landings.

Pre-flight - 1425 – Start out by declaring on Sumeria. I bring the Hittites into our new war for 480G. Abe wants saltpeter to join the war. We get 4gpt out of him. The remaining civs are on the same land mass.

IBT – The Hittites sign Spain into their war with Japan.

1430 – Set up for two invasions, one to the south and one north.

IBT – Sumeria brings the Byzantines in on their war with America.

1435 – The Byzantines dropped off six units and a settler on the island just north of us. Now there is just a settler. Make two landings. I forget about making steals, so I make a careful steal from Sumeria and we now have Atomic Theory. One more and we’re modern. Sell Abe SciMeth for everything he has. Sell Mursilis Combustion for a bunch of stuff.

IBT – Byzantines sign Carthage in against America.

1440 – Sardica is taken with one bullet.

At Septum, we lose a tank, red-line most of the others and:

Steal electronics from Sumeria, and we’re modern.

1445 – Bombard Prilep’s five defenders use three armies and…

I’ll keep it.

Make a landing next to Leeds.

1450 – We lost our silks, so I sell refining to Abe for silks and a bunch of cash.

Bombard Naissus and Leeds with our Air Force.
At Naissus, we lose a tank, but…

Investigate Leeds. There are five defenders. We lose two and fill fours. Leeds remains in Byzantine hands.

Fat finger a landing next to Exeter. March on Caesarea.

Here is the situation, with a campaign plan. At Leeds we’ll need some reinforcements:
