GOZ3 -(Totally Barbaric)-C3C

Preflight check: lots of cities on the verge of rioting so I go thru and MM a bunch. Also build some temples and such for happiness reasons. Hire some CE’s in Hittite lands to speed builds along. Spanish rubber is south of Toledo. Cannot find the zulu MDI??? We should go after the Zulu as they have spices galore and we could use them for happiness reasons alone. Too many cities are rioting or need entertainers right now. Find 4 arty and load them onto a galleon to send to the large stack outside Spain’s capitol. Use our cannons to redline a Zulu Galleon outside of Richmond

Trades: Hittites: WM, 77gpt, 395g for Sci Method

IBT:

T1: 1455AD Pillage, move infantry army to salty mountain. RR some stuff, clean up some pollution

IBT: deal with Korea for our incense expires. They do not want to pay gpt now so they don’t get any :) Dutch offer peace and pay us 1gpt

T2: 1460AD Land about 8 arty’s, 2 cav, 2 inf, and a cav army onto Spain’s homeland. Pillage rubber and salt.

IBT: Hittites and Spain declare peace.

T3: 1465AD Bombard Madrid to see if they have a barracks. Pillage, build, etc.

IBT: Hittites declare war on the Spanish

T4: 1470AD All of Madrid’s defenders are redlined by Arty so I take the city, losing 2 cav but capturing Magellan’s and the Colossus. Barcelona becomes the new capitol but it is completely isolated.

Trade: Sumeria: Espionage, WM & 1055g for Electronics; Dutch: 7gpt, 13g for Medicine

IBT: Sumeria completes US

T5: 1475AD Move a couple of Galleons towards the south. Steel due in 4T so I want them down there so they can be upgraded to Transports and then move the 4unit cav army’s off the Hittite island. Try to minimize potential flip loses in Madrid by moving all but 6 units out.
Trades: Korea: 14gpt, 418g for Sci Method

Notes: I have set research so we get steel in 4T @ -77gpt. This can be lowered if desired but I felt that the need to get combustion was high. There's a couple of Zulu galleons and frigates that snoop around our eastern shore. I've been using the arty in Richmond to make then turn around and go home :)

Too many cities are rioting or need entertainers right now.

Note Facism can have 4 military police. We are still having zero or at most one unit in most cities. We could draft some units too.

Murica has spices which would help us.

I also suggest we invade Zulu. It has silks. It is another easy target - no resources. We'll be fighting MDIs and Pikes. Hlobane seems an interesting invasion point.

Preturn check. Spain is one big wasteland. Don’t know how they survive. Madrid can flip any turn. Moved out 2 infantries but left 4 cavalries to quell resistance. Hired a bunch of scientists and civil engineers and switched a number of builds from Police Stations in corrupt cities to military. The task is tedious but we run 4-turn research of Steel without deficit and even gain 12gpt. Diplomatic front has no news. IBT: Inca and Mursilis sign peace.

[1] 1480AD. Shuffling some MP to hire more civil engineers and speed up builds. Optimization task is very interesting. For example, sometimes, instead of civil engineer, it is possible to hire a policeman, get the same build in the same number of turns but gain some gpt in the process. Very peculiar. Inca and Sumeria have trade embargo against us. Hence, we have minus 2 luxuries. If it is possible to arrange for a war between them, we can get these luxuries. But we are doing fine anyhow since it is not gotm and we don’t play for score. Whip temple in Madrid and move out all troops. IBT. All quiet. Sumer infantry pillages Spanish road.

[2] 1485AD. Arty bombards Pamplona, army attacks, then cavalry, and we capture the city. New Hippo founded. Our cavalry captured Santiago. There are no clowns in our empire! Some troops can be shipped to Spain.

[3] 1490AD. Since I don’t know what are we going to do with all that cash, upgraded all MDI for guerillas for about 2000g, just in case. There are also some swordsmen and warriors to upgrade as well. IBT. Spain and Netherlands sign peace. We learn steel and go to Combustion which is at 8 turns at –62gpt (90% science).

[4] 1495AD. Declare war against Inca. Trade Steel to Sumeria for 450g+82gpt + alliance against Inca. Trade refining to Sumeria for spices and wines. Go through all cities and hire many scientists to increase research towards Combustion. Made peace to Zulu, trade silks from them for Industrialization+dyes+incense. IBT. Mursilis signs Inca in Embargo against us. Most of the cities celebrate WLTGD.

[5] 1500AD. Combustion is 5 turns away. We capture Barcelona at expense of 2 cavalries. Also, Zaragoza is captured. Loaded a couple of galleons with reinforcements including a bunch of workers. A few units were not moved. We are doing very well, just a bit slow.

Here is a picture of our holding newly acquired on a Spanish territory.

nice work. i'm as puzzled with the ce vs. policeman thing as you are. it is very interesting to see how these interact with the city's output.

I am truly puzzled by this move.

Declare war against Inca. Trade Steel to Sumeria for 450g+82gpt + alliance against Inca. Trade refining to Sumeria for spices and wines.

Why did we do that? We declared on Inca (and paid to sign in Sumeria) before we have troops positioned next to its border? And refining to Sumeria for two luxes we don't really need? Sumeria is our biggest threat now, and we gave away two techs like this?

No, we did not pay, they paid for Steel and it was a sum of about 2000g. Not sure how we can efficiently use that though. Well, now, our citizens are happy but before they were really very unhappy. And IMHO, we are not in a position to attack Sumeria earlier than in 20 turns. And I don't think they are a big military threat to us.

These luxuries are really important atm to get more scientists and civil engineers to speed up research to combustion and tanks and movement to Domination.

As a counter-argument, I do not approve the army pillaging tactics too much. It was useful to a certain extent against Httites when we were behind and they were on the island accumulating troops for 5 thousand years. However, now, it greatly slows our progress towards Domination. We need to build lots of roads and improvements there and troops and reinforcements are moving rather slowly.

Usually on Emperor, I'm comfortable trying to accelerate the overall tech pace and trade with AI all techs as soon as they are discovered just to get there more rapidly. Well, in Industrial age, once the AI gets to infantry, they can discover something useful if we let them do it. Be it Combined Arms or Amphibious Warfare.

But it's all just a matter of taste. :)

preturn: lux can drop to 0.

Corporation to Hitties for WM+69gpt+103g.

Fix some tiles arrangement and press enter.

Noticed we are just be able to get Combustion in 5 turns by hiring enough scientists.

Why aren't we building Stock Exchanges? We'll need the 50gpt interest from Wall Street!

IBT I saw a Spanish leader run away from mountain. Cav kills our guerilla.

Intelligence Agency built.

(1)1505AD: Failed in planting spy on Inca, but succeeded in Spain. It has a pathetic army of 16 infantry and 6 guerilla.

@Toledo: 2 cavs retreat from infantry. Infantry army kills one infantry, still another one left.

Due to pollution Combustion is still in 5 turns. Add more scientists to get it in 4 turns.

Plant a spy on Korea: 54 infantry.

Plant a spy on Zulu: 23 musketmen. This is a far better target than Inca. I think we should invade Zulu as soon as the deal ends.

I sell horses to Netherlands for 10gpt.

IBT Sumeria captures Salamanca.

(2)1510AD: Somehow Combustion is still in 4 turns. I'm tired of this MM, so I raise sci to 100% and fire some scientists back to work.

Infantry army kills an infantry and rifleman. We capture Telado thus control the choke.

IBT Inca and Zulu make peace. Korea and Inca make peace.

(3)1515AD: ZZZ

IBT Spain and Korea make peace. Spain and Sumeria make peace.

(4)1520AD: At Seville a 16-hp full-health cav army loses to a regular infantry! With another army we capture that city.

I sign RoP with Sumeria so we can get to Spain's new capital.

IBT Combustion->Flight in 7. Inca drops a rifle.

(5)1525AD: Steel to Korea for furs+416g+41gpt. Korea is close to getting Refining as it's not even worth the furs.

Upgrade 9 galleons to transports by 675g.

IBT Sumeria and Hitties make peace.

(6)1530AD: Infantry army captures Valencia.

Rush 2 transports.

(7)1535AD: start transporting armies back to mainland.

IBT Netherlands and Sumeria make peace.

(8)1540AD: Kill 3 infantry in Lagos but still one guerilla inside.

IBT Wall Street completed.

(9)1545AD: Still cannot capture Lagos - there are two rifles in it.

(10)1550AD:

We capture Lagos and raze Victoria. Spain is no more. I then abandon Lagos as it may flip to Sumeria anyway and is hardly defendable against Sumeria.

We can sell Steel to Hitties for WM+11g+54gpt, but I'll leave it to next player.

I try to plant spy on Inca again and it failed again. So wait at least 5 turns before you try again.

Note:

Our troops are positioned next to Richmon, the city facing Inca across the sea. It includes 5 armies, stacks of cavalry, infantry and artillery and some settlers/workers. We don't have enough transport for this, but some of them could be airlifted later so workers are important (for airfields).

There is a cav army and a lot of workers in Gades (Hitties land) that we can transport to mainland too.

There are 4 infantry armies still on the Spanish land. There is another transport in Pamplona and another in Zaragoza. However, we don't need to wait for them in the Incan war. We can start and they can be reinforcement.

Flight is due in 2, which will enable airports and airfields. It will help us a lot.

Zulu would be another target. We can easily run over it. The silks deal will end in 9 turns - don't renew!

My point is we shouldn't declare before we are ready to invade. I spent my whole 10 turns preparing for it.

And I don't think they are a big military threat to us.

They are the No.2. Giving them a monopoly tech just for 2 lux we can live without isn't the best idea to me.

As we are playing domination/conquest, I think a fast tech pace isn't actually to our best interest.

And don't forget drafting and military police in Facism. I did quite a bit of drafting to make sure we have at least one defender in each city.

gozpel seems to have some computer problem again (see his post in SGOTM2).
conehead can you take it?
can't look at that thread or ainwood will have our a## in a sling :) so thanks for the update.

OK, 4 days after my play. I have to kick some ass. ;)

1- conehead - skipped
2- grahamiam - up
3- akots - on deck
4- microbe
5- gozpel - skipped

Cone/gozpel, jump in anytime you want, but let's keep it moving for now. As the game is now at an easy stage, I just want to finish it off asap.

ok, i will check in later as i can't take it till late tonight or tomorrow. if cone still wants it, please post tonight before 10:30PM EDT

Haha, very funny guys. :)

You have done an excellent job so far. Everytime when i finally succeeded to load the page(s) my server kicked me out for some reason. Just to add to the additional problems I had with this stupid can.

But I think I'm ready to start playing again and will take my turns after conehead. This is pretty much wrapped up anyways - vision the primadonna gliding in (after the peasants done all the hard work) and take all the credits. :)
