GR17 - AWE vs 30 civs

I got it, hope I am not as busy as you were. Nearly 400 combats, that is a bunch. Not sure I want to get some of their gold by losing tows, since the gold will be ours anyway.

We have enough that I would just as soon raze and try to get slaves, rather than sell of a couple of structures, unless it is a small town. Do we have lots of settlers on hand for replacements?

I think I would spend some to upgrade a few muskets to hold some of these places that come under attack and are defended by pikes or muskets.

It will be good to rid ourselves of the Byz and those dromons and I surely will not be venturing out to sea, that is just suicide at this point.

I would also consider a prebuild for Hoover if we haven't started one. With electronics next it will be time to start one.

I would also put pretty much all core towns on factories when we get Ind (even prebuild) Earlier is better and I think we have sufficient troops that taking time off now to double our shields (once hoover) won't be a problem.

I am guessing my next turns will be fairly quiet with most or all the AI on our continent dead by then. We are getting to the "fast progress" phase.

I think I agree on getting espionage sooner (after electronics). A map will tell us where to go and probably save time in the long run.

Copan went back to a Hoover pre-build as soon as it finished ToE.

The AI infantry was/is getting up next to towns along the frontier so I built a few infantry to at least be able to defend at selected points against their attacks.

The Arabs are south of the Byz lands.

One saving grace is it appears the Vikings have never had coal. Hence no rails.

There should be no AI troops in that spit of land in the east. There could be a barb camp popping up at any time. There are also 4-5 forted workers there who were staying clear of the barb camp cleared last turn.

There is a small Arab stack floaing around in our front central area. It was advancing but then started to back out last IBT.

Settlers are slow in coming at the present time, but there is cash to rush a few that are 14 or less turns from completion. That runs you about 40-70 gold each.

True, but this could be developed into a useful exploit in the right circumstances. No doubt it's been done.

They had it briefly, at least, but we pillaged their coal colony on my round.

Actually I am not too sure whether deprival of coal/iron is the best thing to do as it is nice to conquer railed land (there is always a trade off)

I hope we can send out some spy ships so that the next turnsets won't be too boring after taking out our continent...I remember having to take my turns in the first continent huge map after we eliminated all the opponents on our shores, that was

Of course, full blown conquest of the other big continent will only happen after we gained flight and airfields etc.

It will be nearly impossible to get our ships out as we have so many frigates on our shores they would be chewed up, without a big stack.

Maps willbe a ways away as we need some techs, then a small wonder. The maps will be useful for the other land masses, but we probably do not need it for ours.

I would think we will have it mapped by then or close to it. It has been slow going so far only 3 turns completed. I have a minor operation in the morning. I will have to see if it allows me to sit in my chair as it is on my back.

hope everything goes well for you...if you need a break, just post your save here and I will take over for now...

Yes, best of luck with the procedure, Vmxa.

Thanks guys. It should be fine to continue, I hope. I have 4 biopse that came back cancer and the first op is being done today. Three are small. The fourth is the one that concerns me as I have twice had melonoma in this location and it is nothing but scare tissue.

In fact the last operation never closed. So that will be tricky and it is right behind my ear and has long scares. Since my face has swollen up, I have to worry about the lymph nodes.

Anyway the docs seem to be non pulsed by the whole thing, in contrast to my last one. Then they sat me down and said I have about 33% chance of not making it.

Now that was a bit scary. Especially since I had just had my mother and younger brother die of cancer a few months before that.

I am going to get cleaned up and head in now, but I wanted to ask about the next tech. I tentatively selected Electronics. I was thinking that we would like to avoid making coal plants and get the free hydros.

Not just because of the pollution, but the time and shield needed to build the plants.

I figure that Nat and Espionage will only go down in price during this time anyway. Not to mention we do not need the maps right now. I think the timing will be good.

hey man, take good care of yourself...if it doesn't work, just post the save...

else, electronics was the tech we all selected, after that nationalism and espionage, but first we want Hoover

Ya, good luck to you on the ops. Scary stuff.

Agree with electronics first. We got the prebuild going and want to time it right.

Double check the city has the river we need for hoover :D I have made that mistake in the past. Fortunately, not in an SG though.

Yup we are good with the river as Copan does not have an aqua, but is size 12. The river is hard to see, but it must be connected.

Anyway I seem no worse for the wear. He use liquid nitro on some AK's and those are more annoying than my back, but the shots are still working.

I expect to play the rest of the day with few breaks and will see how far I can get. I have Fri and Sat work, so I will probably toss it back before I go to bed. Should get to at least 6 turn or so.

Going start some factories. Not too many as we lost a lot of units and are still thin. Especially since many of the builds are not even inf or cavs, but arties and settlers. That will change once we get factories and hoover going.

I'm glad to hear the procedure went smoothly.

Yes, Electronics next.

It's not a big deal, but we're building infantry (90 shields) in some cities which have been micromanaged to exactly 20 shields--including three of our core towns which use mountain tiles, IIRC, though I'm not looking at the save right now. We should probably switch these towns to artillery and/or cav if we're going to build those units at all. (Edit: Of course, factory builds would be even better.)

vmxa, happy to hear all went well...

as for the game, toss it to me. I got a long weekend with my other half being away...just nice for this monster of a game...
