GR18-AWM Genocide Variant vs 30 Civs.

I had a look at the save, but I am too tired to play. Work is quite demanding at the moment.

I would not want to turn down research with one turn to cavs. There are 4 Arabic fast movers. Obviously they will take 4 cities at max and they will station their troops there usually if they have taken the cities. If we are lucky they will lose 1 or 2 units and we get away with 2 lost cities. They have no access to our core, so I am not too convinced to put much effort in holding that position by spending much money on rushing pikes and MDIs.

I would turn down research next turn to rush some cavs during the next turns and send them down to clear the area.
 
Remember the terms of our variant, though. Every city the Arabs take is lost for good, because we have to raze them if the Arabs don't. In that sense, to talk about "clearing the area" after the Arabs have done their worst is meaningless. Even if you don't care to cut the science rate before we discover MT, I think the argument for the other measures I've proposed is overwhelming.
 
Yes, I remember the terms of the variant. ;) That is the reason I said that the cities will be lost, but I am still not really convinced to put that much effort in holding some outposts. After some sleep I agree to your points 2, 3, 5 and 6, though. I hope I do not have to work late again, so I can start my turns this evening.
 
I think I agree with markh on this. The immediate rushes with selling walls seems worthwhile, but lowering science doesn't seem worth the gain as we don't get anything from it for 2 turns which is too late.

What we could do is not rush right away, but interupt when we get tech and rush Cavalry before it goes through the cities. That will give us cavalry in cities next turn. In other words save the money now and wait to rush for the inter-turn - it allows us to rush cavalry rather than what we can now.
 
Played the IBT and I am in the first turn. The IBT was not too bad. One Ansar and a cav died attacking New Tver without even scratching the pike there promoting it elite. An Ansar retreated on a pike at the city NE of New Tver (something with "Fool" in the name), but the second cav took the city. Now I have to figure out how to secure the cities the Arabic cav can reach next IBT. There are a lot of foreign loaded ships in that area, so this area will need a lot of attention the next turns. I will continue tomorrow evening.
 
I am in turn 4. We lost 2 cities to the Arabic stack, but the 2 towns are resettled. Additonally the Eastern cities are resettled and we are pushing further in our N, NW.

Our first cav army will take up business this turn. A second one will follow next turn.:D I will play 3 more turns until 1800AD and post the save this night, so the next player can have some fun over the weekend.

We have to get through to the Celts soon as their cavs make settling there risky. Furthermore I fear the AI has set a new landing spot as our Sourthern coast is full of ships and I guess they are loaded. They all move W, NW at the moment.
 
Sell some walls and unnecessary temples, rush 3 MDIs in the battle area, move the knight from New Tver to New Anshan

3) 1782AD : raze Carthago Novo, Dzibilchatun, Norwich, Won is not Enough

all Arabic intruders are down, but I wonder where the new landing spot will be as our coast is full of foreign ships

IBT : damn, a Byz cav comes out of the fog in our NE and destroys a just founded city

4) 1784AD : resettle Fool In The Valley and found 3 more towns

kill a few units, armies mostly healing

IBT : A new town is destroyed by two Zulu knights coming out of the fog
The Celtic cavs become a problem, they almost capture a town

5) 1786AD : raze Ohrid

found some more towns

IBT : he, he I emptied Busy Byzzies and New Tver and all ships turn around. Now that we have units there it will be a nice killing ground, although Theo lands several cavs at Busy Byzzies.

6) 1788AD : raze Erech

not good. We cannot kill all Bzy cavs. 3 wounded ones will be able to move next IBT and I observe by razing Erech that she has landed 2 more cavs, a musket and a settler in the area. We will probably lose towns there again.

7) 1790AD : raze Bonampak, Kutha, St. Petersburg

get an MGL

The MGL is below the pike in the pic. There are cavs in the area and a cav army will help there. You can play with the AI by garrisoning New Tver and Busy Byzzies. If the towns are empty the AIs will land there. If you put units in the towns they will sail N, NW. All ships in the area are loaded I guess.

I filled the cav armies with 3 units only so far, so they could be shipped in case we obsevre that there is not much land left on our continent.

The Celtic cavs are VERY annoying. They find routes to get through again and again.

Good work containing the landings. :goodjob: It could have been a lot worse.

With Education due in two turns, we should be able to get a lot of our half-price universities built, or mostly built, in what remains of our GA.

this could get really tight as we do not have that many attackers in the vicinity
luckily our newly arrived hwachas help to defeat all units, close call though
found 2 more cities and all land is claimed there

raze Coba, but lose a Cav during the attack, take out 3 units in total there

In the northwest, found a new city, defeat 3 units
take out 1 musket and raze Ulundi including a settler in there
2 muskets go and newly founded Umfolozi is gone as well [82-3]

3 landings this time only, redline them and finally get a MGL
manage to sink one of those bloody Greek frigates

defeat 2 pikes and raze Lazapa in the Alps, move armies further and found a city in the hills
found a city near Mayan land to advance towards their capital
take out 3 pikes there and move in another 2 armies

finish disconnecting Sumer capital from the rest of the world

defeat 2 muskets and raze freshly founded Irkutsk. It is annoying to armies doing this again and again [104-4]

IT nothing really worth noting, though Greek bombardment is less, maybe their additional war has distracted them

defeat a musket in Vladivostok and a drafted rifle shows up :eek: defeat it and the northern corner is free of enemies
kill 2 muskets and raze Krasnoyarsk, found a city in the northwest

deal with 9 landings easily, sink an Arab caravel nearby [138-8]
defeat 2 assorted units

IT a Byz cav comes out of the fog and defeat a defender, kill 2 units but lose another pike [140-9]

I think Russia might have been exiled from our continent, they are not dead but I can't see any of their borders any longer

Now that is not a pleasant note.

Drafting a unit during player turn is a bug IMO. I have seen it a few times, but you are always wondering, if you missed it.

Low-shield, high-commerce Kaesong should definitely switch to a university before completing the cav it's building now, or it may never have a uni in time to help us. And Sumeriwon pulls in enough gold that it should at least have a library.
 
lurker's comment: That's no bug- a musket (so long as it has at least 3 hp) will have a better chance at defending than a conscript Rifle.

OTOH, they can draft, and rush, during the IBT. There's nothing I hate more than when a city that just flipped back to the AI has been poprushed and drafted twice and when I attack it find that it has 4 riflemen/infantry/MI- one Vet, one Reg, and 2 conscript. It just sucks.
