Graphics/Sound Problems? - Please post your DX Logs.

I have choppy sound and then I get a message that I don't meet the recommended specs. However, I think I do. Could someone please tell me if I do or not?

I would really like a solution to m problem. Please someone let me know if I should meet the minimum requirements. Thanks!!

Ive got a problem. I already know that i can't play the game without t&l, and im planning to get a new video card.

But my problem i have now, is the game doesn't even go to the install screen.
I put the disk in, nothing appears. My Computer: drive D, it claims the disk isn't there. It isn't a faulty disk. I tried on another computer with the correct requirements, and it worked. I also tried on another computer without t&l...and it has the same effect. Is this a normal problem if you don't have t&l? Just checking. I don't want to buy a new video card and then figure out that the computer still claims the disk doesn't exist.

I'd appreciate any help i can get. Thanks.

So my friend and I both bought the game, and we are having the same problems everyone else seems to be having - leaders have only eyes, lips, random articles, all terrain is black, and movies are insanley choppy. I couldn't get the XML edit to fix the terrain problems, and although I was able to "reveal all terrain" in worldbuilder, it is still shadowy(like it is when you have discovered the area, but your unit is not close enough to "see" it), animals have disappered (i can still see their shadows), and the exploaration fun is gone.
Granted we expected this sort of thing from my friends 4 year old E-machine, but I have an Insignia D300a with a pent 4 and 512 RAM. My graphics card, while not super spiffy, is an Intel 82845G (64 MB). It's enough to play WoW with settings on maximum and I was able to play Half-life 2 with minimal problems (Lag in cities, but I could see everything). Why am I having so many problems with CIV IV?
And yes, I updated my drivers.

So, I just got the patch to DL, and it seems to have fixed most of my problems (although my friend doesn't have a working internet connection on his computer, so no idea how we'll fix that...). No telling yet if I'll have crash problems like others have been having. I am getting a message now on the menu screen that says I am below system reqs (lies). I'll let you all know if I randomly crash.

Having way more problems after patch than before - at least now I'm usually getting an error message when it crashes ( a plus?). Wonder videos are now choppy and sound is stuttering, which didn't happen pre patch.

I frequently crash with this message: <<The instruction at "0x00a5289e" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be read." Twice I noticed this one when I clicked on the minimap.

Also getting the windows error reporting thing popping up on most crashes - before it just exited to the desktop.

yeah, after playing through a few rounds last night I can safley say that my video is worse than ever, and as soon as a tech is discovered, the world map gets revealed. Boo.

My sound is kind of wierd now too...(sorry, just noticed that - I had the volume off last night) It's glitching between tracks

Sigh...here is my DxDiag.

The game crashes on huge maps so I suppose part of the solution might be to not play huge maps.

Before the patch it would crash to desktop unexpectedly without other symptoms when I got up to about the railroad age.

After the patch it seems to try to get past a crash and I get a partial black screen then it goes back to normal a few times before it crashes to a black screen with music playing in the background. I get get to windows at that point but can't really do anything or end the game. I end up having to unplug the system sometimes or the PC reboots by itself at this point.

I've tried a few of the suggestions and updated video drivers to the latest.

When I load the saved game I can play about a turn and a half before it crashes again. :(

At first gameplay I realized I had the dark terrain screen and figured whatever, dumb laptop graphics card (RADEON IGP 340M). But then I went into world builder and realized a whole new world of wonderful terrain! After going back to normal gameplay it was dark again.

So the graphics card doesn't seem to be the issue, or at least it's only half the issue :/

(DNA-ATi 4.4.5.10 driver, tried Omega also though, also have tried with BlueMarble and without)

I'm having problems in the late stages of the game. I am experiencing random crashes at various intervals. I believe my problem may be a sound issue. This is from my audio.log:

Anyone please help me. I'm not too good at these hardware-questions. I have problems with civ4. It's very slow on my computer. My dxdiag is in attachments. Should i buy anything new into my computer, or what?

Attachments

I installed Civ4 with no error messages or problems a couple days after release, clean audio/video and played through a couple single-player small games. Most recently I started a standard-sized game and as I progress through the middle ages, the game has steadily reacted more and more slowly. All the leaderheads, terrain, etc is fine, but a move of a rifleman from one square to another takes two-four seconds, a frigate bombarding a city takes four or five seconds. Scrolling the map around has gotten steadily slower. I've applied the 1.09 patch and I've tried lowering the video settings from high to low, no change. If I minimize Civ4 and then bring it back up, it'll help, but only for a minute or less. A few times the game has minimized-to-desktop by itself (and when I brought it back up, I was able to save the game).

Given that the problem accumulates over the course of the game, and there's not much difference video-wise between earlier and later game screens, I'm suspecting a memory leak of some sort. I guess I'll stick to small games until Firaxis figures it out.

My dxdiag file is attached to this post; I'm running an XP Pro SP2, Pent-4 3.0GHZ processor, 1.0GB of RAM, and a NVidia GeForce FX 5500 w/256MB RAM video card.

I've tried just about everything I can think of - for a person who's not the most computer literate - and I'm about ready to bag it.

I downloaded from D2D, along with the patch. The majority of the program seems to be working right, but I have the same problem as many - no facial features on the characters and black landscaping. Looking for some help.

I've thought about accepting the $$ loss and going oit to buy the game, but it doesn't sound like the hard version is any better. Suggestions?

If you still have problems with graphics issues trying to play Civ4, then please post in this thread with:

 1. The symptoms: What problem do you have?
 2. What you've take to try and remedy the situation.
 3. Also, please post your DirectX diagnotics printouts.

To get these printouts, follow these steps:
 1. Press the windows 'start' button, and select 'run'.
 2. In the box that appears, type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) and hit the enter key.
 3. Follow the on-screen instructions, until you get the main DirectX Diagnostic program.
 4. Hit the "save all information" button (as shown in the graphic below). You will be prompted for a file name and can save the information as a text file.
 5. Either upload the text file as an attachment to you post, or open it and copy and paste the data into your post.

You may also want to put

tags around the directx log information to make the thread a bit easier to navigate, but its not critical.

Hopefully we can get some experts here to help analyse the data and provide you with some suggestions &/or solutions.

Symptoms: Game runs fine in single player mode, when in Multiplayer the Chat room freezes and Unfreezes constantly, and when a game starts I get very VERY laggy graphics when I try to scroll.

Steps to Try and Fix it: I've turned off SLI, I've turned everything down on low, I've even turned the resolution down as low as possible and no luck.

Hey guys, here's my problem

I attached a screen of what mine is doing... Before it used to all go to hell after the initial setup and as the map is loading. As the load comes to an end, the audio skips a bit but the graphics go to hell...

Any ideas? Also, the screenshot is the best I've gotten to look. Previous attempts looked even worse

Well my problem is pretty insignificant compared to most people posting here:
The sound skips in all movies.
The game hints that i should use the miles sound driver...

PS
A smaller problem is that after an hour of play, it all kinda grinds to a snails pace. (But that's good, it tells me to stop playing!)
