I'm pretty sure French Guiana has an equal status with the departments.

I knew French Guiana did, and those others you named, but what about Tahiti or New Caledonia? I don't think they do. (I recall the map of who voted for whom in the last election, had French Guiana et al., I don't recall Tahiti.)

You guys don't have an Antarctic territory, do you? Australia has the largest one, and it's considered part of Australia - though there really isn't much administration required - so, despite being an island, we share borders with several different countries.

Technically no one has Antarctic territory, since the signatories of the Treaty refuse to acknowledge the claims of any nation to land below a certain latitude, and the signatories include most of the world.

We have, it's called Terre Adélie, with the Dumont d'Urville base, right in the middle of yours
