Yeah, I think Fourier is perhaps more deserving of a place than Taylor now I think about it.

And maybe the Bernoulli's deserve a family mention.

Yep, it's difficult to pick just 24.

Interesting, I see Fourier is credited with discovering the Greenhouse Effect.

Diophantus was pretty influential as well but a bit later than the first 3.

A close run between Descartes and Newton for me, so I went affirmative action :p

newfangle!

(honorable mention to nihilistic, pboily, and Gauss)

Gauss. Dude was friggin' amazing, had a finger in basically everything.

Voted Euler. Was actually surprised to find him at the top - I voted before reading and thought more votes might go to Newton or Gauss. I'd say both of them contributed more to fields outside of pure mathematics; these are probably my top three on there. This poll also seems like one that could have worked in a multiple choice format here, and then a vote on finalists.

I didn't know Fourier discovered the greenhouse effect either :)

How can it not be Euler‽ Just for Euler's identity if not also for graph theory, notation, etc. He was always my favourite :goodjob:

From wiki regarding the modern status of the Konigsberg bridges:

"In terms of graph theory, two of the nodes now have degree 2, and the other two have degree 3. Therefore, an Eulerian path is now possible, but since it must begin on one island and end on the other, it is impractical for tourists."

Inventing a whole field of mathematics just to explain theories in physics is quite remarkable. I'll go with Newton.

I'm surprised about Euclid's poor showing so far. I thought he would be the most popular Greek.

He'd be my second choice.
