Greatest RPG's of all time?

final fantasy 7.......epic.

I'm finally getting into my Planescape: Torment game. Once you get out of the initial mortuary it gets more fun. I don't like the initial starting area too much. Baldur's Gate 2 had this problem too in that the starting dungeon wasn't all that fun. The game has a few bugs on my Windows 7 machine, but not too bad. It seemed too complex for my old brain to try to get the widescreen mod and fix pack working, so I'm running without those. The game opens up quite a bit more when you get outside into Sigil.

The mortuary is certainly gloomy, but honestly, the excellent quality of writing right from the beginning still made me hungry to see more from the very first minute.

I don't think Final Fantasy Tactics has been mentioned; it has a great plot and the best battle system I've encountered in an RPG.

I've just started a new playthrough of Planescape, it was awesome the 1st (and 2nd) time. But it's been a few years since I've played it.

Remember, Wisdom is the most important stat ;).

Seriously, wisdom is by far most important. Even though I ended up playing mostly as a warrior, that low Strength and dexterity I had was well enough.

I also didn't like the mortuary too much. Same with BG2's beginning dungeon.

My top three games of all time are:

Planescape: Torment
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Baldur's Gate
(Tutu version)

I'm also a big fan of TES IV: Oblivion, KotOR I & II, Arcanum and even Dragon Age: Origins. I should point out that I mod my TES game to buggery and back and the default Oblivion HUD and levelling system are absolutely dire!

MM VI & VII were great games; VIII wasn't bad, but it was blatantly unfinished; IX was frankly dreadful.

Wisdom and Intelligence. What a brilliant game.:king:

Yeah, thinking about it Intelligence is also really important.

Wisdom 1st
Intelligence 2nd
Charisma 3rd

...the Physical stats are pretty useless I found, although I did like having 13 dex so I could catch pickpockets :) .

In Planescape: Torment, having a minimum stat of 13 in all categories was a good idea. After a while, I used to start with Str 9 and all the rest 12 or 13.

You sir, have great taste. The only downfall with the battle system is that for some odd reason, Squaresoft inserted several gamebreakers (Orlandu, Calculators, and in the PSP version Balthier & Dark Knight's are pretty tough to lose with).

I'm loving my Planescape replay. It's been such a long time I've forgotten most of the game anyways. I do have a few gripes though. While I love wisdom being so important, once you know the best setup, that becomes the only real way to play. Is there any point to doing anything other than concentrating on Wisdom, Int, and Charisma? I have little incentive to make a fighter type character. It lessens replayability.

And I hate reloading so often to get max hit points on each level up (I know a mod can fix this). I don't always go for max hit points, but at least close to max. Having 1 hp on level up sucks.

I actually felt bad turning my lim-lim into stone. The way they wrote it made me sad. I feel bad for turning a cute pet into stone.

That's the beauty of this game - so many sad or bad things are happening, it makes it a real tragedy, and not a "hullo boy click this button for the win, you'll get the girl and save the universe" horse dung that's industry standard nowadays.

First time I've played the ending was heartbreaking, and yet I've loved it, because it was so masterfully done.

I love the game too. "The equation no longer equals total logic." OR "Time is not your enemy; forever is."

Finished my game of Planescape. The final part of the game is superb. Many rpg's have good beginnings, and middles, but lack a good ending. Planescape Torment has the best ending (and best last 1/3 of the game) of any rpg imho. The beginning is a little slow, however.

I actually got upset at some of the things the Transcendent one said to Annah (my love interest). And I actually got a tear in my eye when Deionarra forgave me the last time I spoke to her ghost. Amazing game.

I still can't say it's my favorite rpg, but it's one of the best story's of any rpg out there. I'm glad I replayed this game.

On a final note the game doesn't play very well with Windows 7 regarding the spell effects. Other than the spell effects, I had no major problems (occasional crash when loading). For some reason the spell effects slowed up the game and caused a lot of graphical glitches. The only solution I could find online looked very complicated, and perhaps beyond my computer abilities.
