Guess the New Civs

If the 10th icon is totemism and not tengriism

I don't understand why this is still in debate. That specific eagle symbol is an actual historical symbol for the god Tengri. Why would they use a real religious symbol for any other religion besides what it actually represents?

Sumer is missing too but there is a babylonian DLC,

And BTS included both Sumer and Babylon in the same expansion. The two don't affect each other.

No ones added an Australia civ yet. It's the only continent without any civs (Antarctica not counting of course)

It's kind of odd that they have the Sydney Opera House wonder without the civ.

I'm glad to see the Mayans and Carthage in there...definitely will spice up my Earth map, making North America/Africa more exciting, Unfortunately, no room to work in the Dutch, Celts, etc. I would like to see the Zulu and the Huns to further populate Africa and Asia.

...all of course a moot point if the civ cap isn't raised.

Aboriginals were of Polynesian origin, no? Also, if the continent of Australia includes Oceania (or at least New Zealand and Papua New Guinea), the Polynesians include the Maori.

No, Aboriginees decended through Indonesia and settled in Australia almost 48,000 years before Polynesian culture even developed, let alone spread through Polynesia. Also, the Australian continent includes Papua New Guinea and Tasmania through ancient land bridges, but Polynesian islands are seperate (Volcanic IIRC or Coral Reef atolls from Volcanoes) and New Zealand is part of a semi-submerged continent called Zealandia which reaches from New Caledonia to the Campbell / Auckland islands and to the Chatams in the east.

Australian aboriginals were not of Polynesian origin. Polynesia, while the largest cultural group in the Pacific, is certainly not the only one. Papua New Guinea is likewise not Polynesian.

Draw a triangle with a point at New Zealand, a poin at Hawai'i, and a point at Rapa Nui. That is Polynesia.

OK, fair enough. It's often referred to as the Austronesian expansion so I wasn't sure how things broke down.

Yeah, it's mainly because there's about four nesias:

Indonesia
Polynesia
Melonesia
Micronesia

Indonesia and Melonesia are close to Australian aboriginees, while Polynesia and Micronesia are closer to Taiwanese.

Actually, I've heard a Taiwanese origin for all of them (well, technically, a southeast Asian origin, but the original mainland population was completely replaced by later Chinese groups).

Of course, this is far from my specialty, so I only have a chapter from Guns Germs and Steel

Maybe the Inuit had "cities",maybe very little, but I think they should have a "ability" in game that they can't build certain improvements such as farms.
And for those other:
I think they can't be in the game because they didn't had cities.
City-building is the basis of the civilization series.
Without cities they can't build units, research technologies...

The Americans never built chariot archers.
And the Songhai never built aircraft carriers.
I'm also fairly certain Ceasar never met Kamehameha.

Civ is a game of fantasy-empire, and - being a game - the greatest priority for the designers should be pleasing the fan base. I have been playing Civ since the first title, and I am bored of the Romans, Americans, and Japanese. I'm not saying they should be left out, but I am saying that every time the designers give me a Civ like Khmer, Polynesia, or (fingers crossed) Israelites and Inuit, they make me much more interested in the game. I *want* an opportunity to take an Inuit settler with a snow/tundra start bias, and re-write history so that Iqaluit is know in the annals of my fantasy history as one of the great cities of all time. I want to take Israel, join forces with the Iroquois, and tear Rome a new <snip>.

Civ is my chance to make my own history of the world. Improbably outcomes are my favorite ones of all. You took America and made it a world power? So what - real life does that. I want a world where the Inuit and Ethiopians stand as a duoplistic yin-yang of world superpowers.

Polynesia =/= Australia

Geographically speaking, Polynesia and Australia are both part of the continent Australasia.

Geologically speaking, they are on seperate continents, but geologically speaking there are more than seven continents, but no-one wants to have their world turned so upside down.

And on a side note, Asia is not full. Asia Minor is full, The Middle East is bursting, South East Asia is practically empty and Western China and the whole of central Asia is unclaimed.

But the Huns had a European empire... Admittedly an empty part of Europe, but Europe nonetheless

I'd like to see sasanids too, because Persia do not have persian heavy cav. and bowmens. But they are very, very unlikely.:(:(:(

i like central asia the way it is. it's always been a mix of cultures - russian, ottoman...etc. more of a crossroads than actual center of a civilization. also Mongols.

While we talk about all this, it might be wise to say it would be exceptionally difficult to implement an Australian Aborigine civilization. Firstly, we don't know the names of great pre colonial aboriginal leaders, Secondly they lack settlements, being a tribal and nomadic people, so what would be used for City names? Finally, it seems wrong calling them Aborigines when that can refer to native peoples all over the world. Though their UA would obviously be "Dreamtime"

For me it's great news that Portugal won't be in this expansion. This means we will get it later - hopefully packed together with Kongo ;)

Besides the known 30 civs, this is my preference list, and my guesses for the expansion civs:
The last 4 remaining places in the expansion: Hungary or Poland, Ethiopia or Zulu, Sumeria or Hittite, Sioux

Portugal + Kongo double pack as DLC

Besides these, 1st tier civs (should definitely included eventually): Poland or Hungary, Zulu or Ethiopia, Hittite or Sumeria, Phoenicia
2nd tier (also great additions): Assyria, Nubia, Sweden, Bulgaria, Khmer, Mali, Moors (Al-Andalus or Morocco), Indonesia (Majapahit or Srivijaya)
3rd tier (a couple from each region would be nice if there is still room): Apache, Comanche, Navajo, Inuit, Mapuche, Guarani, Arawak, Tupi, Swahili, Zimbabwe, Benin, Vietnam, Burma, Austria, Bohemia, Lithuania, Kievan Rus, Khazar, Mughals, Scythians, Timurids, Huns

I know there are also a lot of suggestions for Israel, but in my opinion the perfect representation is to have Jerusalem as a religious city state

I don't understand why people are so enamored by the Zulu or Sioux. In Africa there are far better civs to include (Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Kongo, Benin, Morocco, etc.)

I also don't get the Sioux when there are so many better Native American Civs that haven't been used yet.

Shaka is classic Civ, it generally feels wrong not to have his craziness all up in your face. That's why. Sioux were a powerful, long culture that dominated a significant area of North America and have had a long impact on popular culture and how the world perceives the American Indian.
