Guess the New Civs

Inuit? I guess it would fill out a currently empty area, and its not a huge stretch compared to, say, Polynesia. I think it would make more sense to give them a food bonus to coastal tiles adjacent to tundra or ice. Inuit doesn't really fit with any of the scenarios, or the religion or espionage themes, I wouldn't expect them in G&K.

But for a civ with bonuses in snow and tundra, why not Sweden? It would be nice for G&K, it would be nicer as a DLC pack with Sweden/Poland and a 30 Years' War scenario.

Any civ that has a bonus to Snow/Tundra is good enough for me..

Yea or Nazca, but would be hard to do since we wouldnt have a leader or language (cities yes, unique buildings yes, units possibly, improvements yes).

Since the devs like to try to have every civ play differently than every other civ, I suspect they'll add Inuit with some sort of bonus from snow, tundra and whales.

I like this idea. They should have a dogsled or something. Or a dogsled UA which helps them travel faster through any tundra or mixed tundra tile.

As far as other civs. I would like to see Tibet, Hungary or Poland a civ in Eastern Europe of some sort. (Transylvania or Wallachia would be nice too!) And an African civ, perhaps Ethiopia or Kongo. I hope the Zulu's are a DLC civ that goes along with a Zulu Wars scenario. Or the Boer's in a DLC along with a Boer War scenario. I was also curious, since they have created a new WWI era, perhaps they will have a WWI DLC which includes Austria-Hungary, Serbia, and Belgium, along with a WWI scenario. At least Austria-Hungary would be nice, maybe a new Italy civ at least for that scenario. A unification of Italy scenario would also be interesting.

I'm presuming Tibet is separate from Hungary and Poland there or I worry for geography lessons! Tibet could be kind of cool, i don't know much about them but i imagine they'd have some uniqueness to them, maybe some kind of religious perk from being near mountains.

Wallachia would be the worst civ ever though. I mean in the world. It's history is that of being taken over by probably the most different empires ever.

Yes it sounds funny how I said it though. No geography lessons needed! As far as Wallachia is concerned I was thinking of Vlad the Impaler. A bad guy to fight the Turks. I also thought of Tibet because of my dog who happens to be a Lhasa Apso. In civ its all about fun every civ is good in some way. It's a game, though I love to associate it with history.

This conversation is not really about who is good and bad for civ choices. Really its about who you would want to have if you had a choice. :)

This is probably Tibet's best chance at being a civ in one of these games, since it's focused on religion. I'd still be surprised, though.

The topic is actually "Guess the new civ" not "what civs would make it if it were up to you."

Just because you think a civ would be a good fit doesn't mean there's enough to make them a solid choice in-game. I'd love to see Poland in game, but I'm not sure if they would fit as another medieval European power.

I'm guessing out of the remaining civs to be announced, there will be one African civ (I'm thinking Ethiopia for it's religious tradition) and possibly another Native American civ more based on Religion (Hopi? Mississippi? Cherokee?)

They already have two civs with religion bonuses. There's only so many you can have.

I do think they'll change Lhasa to a religious city-state, though.

I think the most important about the civilizations in this game is that they get a distinct feel.

I still think Europe has room for more civs so maybe Austria, Poland or Sweden on a wildcard. Maybe Poland is more likely than Austria because easteren Europe is no very well represented.

Africa has to get more civs so Ethiopia or Zulu, maybe both. But I think they are saving Zulu and Portugal for a DLC later this year.

Lastly I could also immagine the Majapahit, or something in that area, considering naval focus. of the expantion or someone from north or south America.

While true, I'm not sure that the correct line to draw is 2, as opposed to, say, 3. I mean, out of the total number of civs in the game, 3 religious civs is still a relatively small portion of the total.

I doubt there'll be a Tibet civ, but I think if there ever will be, it'll be in this expansion pack.

Any number is a random choice. I also still think Ethiopia could be in, which could also have a religion-related bonus.

I suppose we could look at civs currently related to features. We have three City-State bonus civs (iirc). We have three related to embarkation (Songhai, Denmark, Polynesia). We have two related to Barbarians. We now appear to have one that gets a bonus to espionage. We have two related to resources, but appear to be getting a third (Russia, Arabs, Dutch). I guess two related to culture (Aztecs, France).

I guess this list doesn't really say much except two or three would be good numbers.

I'd like to see the Americans or Russians get an ammended UA having to do with espionage. I can't see England being the ONLY civ with a bonus to espionage, and a rather large one at that. A 4th spy when every other civ gets 3 is a huge leg up.

It's all about flavour. As long as there's another 'way' to work with something in the game, there's potential for another civ.

Ofc, as long as it just isn't a copy/inversion of another civs UA, then it'll be welcome.

I agree with that. The trick is to think of other good religion bonuses.

Getting faith from X would copy the Celts, so I don't think they'll do that twice.
Obviously, the Byzantines get more bonuses.
I thought of an idea to give Ethiopia special follower bonuses for their cities. For example, if you can only get the bonuses if you have to declare a religion, Ethiopia's ability would be to get all bonuses in cities regardless of which religion you have.

I'm sure there are ways to think of others, but making them unique could be difficult.

Russia's one of the only ones with a resource-manipulation UA, but it does feel like espionage is more fitting for them. I'd be pretty happy with Russia, England, and America getting espionage bonuses.

The trick is how to give them different ones. With England getting an extra spy, Russia seems the most difficult. Maybe make them more effective or promote faster, perhaps.

The problem is, from my perspective, I know of too many botched CIA coups. However, they were fans of that. America's real strength has been technological, however, so maybe more effective passive intelligence rather than covert missions.

That's the extent of what I can think of. None of these abilities, of course, have anything to do with the name of their UA.
