GuideNES: The First Step for Lurkers and Newbies!

@Abaddon: Don't you think it's smart to let some players pick their advisers? I mean, you know, in case they know them from elsewhere and they just click. I still dare say, for people without preference, a system of randomization wherein each adviser is assigned to each player lacking one who has expressed his wish to have one would work, just with some modification to accommodate those who express preference one way or another.

Speaking of which, do you think I'd be more useful just advising or taking an NPC? I'd like to lighten the burden on you and manage a bunch of NPCs or something. :)

I'd like to run a big sprawling, decadent, and collapsing empire, please. I'd call it an "NPC" except it's being run by me. Is that possible?

@ Lightfang - Yes, you taking an NPC nations would be great. An of course people can choose an advisor, but otherwise myself or Jo will pick, there is no need to randomise

@ FC - that would be awesome

@ Charles- !The NES hasn't even started yet! PLEASE DO NOT POST

@Charles You are lucky to even be let in this game, don't screw it up. If you have questions, ask me via PM (LIMIT TO ONE AT A TIME FOR YOU), and wait for update 0 before you begin your useless HAY GUYS LETZ TRAYD diplomacy.

You should NOT be allowed to MOD this NES. Keep this up and I leave.

Well, I'd wanted to do something Greek, but then again there's quite a few people over there and I don't want to kill all of them yet :p So, might as well go ahead and do this...

He has a point. But then again, Charles has been here for quite a while.

So have you, and you two are no different. You two need to start thinking before clicking the Post button. You may be kids, and you may not be good at writing (charles), or have a lot of patience and calmness (you) but if you learn, and have the right teacher, unlike some fascist elitist posters around here you guys that call yourself noobs could even change.

It's not the MOD's job to have patience with these newbies, that belongs to the advisers.
In a guidenes IT IS the mods job. and ONLY in a guidenes. If he has no patient, he cannot guide.

and i quote from the rules of this game.

This NES is designed to be user-friendly to those looking at this for the first time. It is especially so since every new player will have a veteran NESer assigned to them. This "Buddy System" will ensure there is always someone to plot and plan with.

- If you have any questions whatsoever (including clarifying questions about things insufficiently or not at all covered by the stats), ask the moderator because you will probably end up doing that anyway if you really want to know the answers;

Here are my revised stats with my background:

Nation Name: Albion (Celtic Confederation in Southern England)
Nation Location: England, the southern British coast.
Capital: Caerix, England.
Ruler: (Chief Brennus // Pinman)
Government: Tribal Council
Economy: (Nascent) +1
Army: (Leave blank)
Army Description: (Leave blank)
Navy: (Leave blank)
Navy Description: (Leave blank)
Culture: Celtic . Based upon worship of the gods of the skies with some ritual sacrifice mixed in. Stonehenge was built at this time.
Technology: (Leave blank)
Projects: (Leave blank)
Nation Background:

The people of Albion have lived in Britain for as long as anybody can remember. For a considerable time period, they existed as separate self containing tribes, bound together by blood ties and collective hunting, but recent developments have brought them closer towards nationhood. The discovery of Tin near Cornwall and Devon stimulated considerable mining operations and the export of Tin products to those of the Celtic culture throughout Europe. Other minerals, such as Gold and Copper, have also been mined to manufacture ornaments for export to the other Celtic based peoples in France and Iberia. In order to prevent conflict over the Tin and other mineral supplies, a closer working relationship was required between the various Celtic tribes in Albion. As such, they formed a tribal council consisting of a representative from each tribe. The idea of co-ordinating various activities stuck, and the council has continued to operate dealing not only with mining minerals, but tribal land disputes as well as Religious activities.

The Albionians are not only Hunters and miners, but also farmers. They are renowned for growing Wheat, as well as cultivating herds of pigs and cattle for food. These are also used as sacrifices in the religious rites described below as the Albionians do not believe in Human Sacrifice.

Albionian religion consists of various ceremonies dedicated to the gods of the Sun and Moon performed at specific times of year. The priests of the gods, known as the Druids, are a secretive cult whose members are rarely spotted except during the holy ceremonies. The central location used by the Druids for the most important rituals is Stonehenge, located several days north of Caerix. It is sealed off for most of the year, and many fear to go there.

Other important Albionian rites involve death. The Celtic people believe that when a man dies, his body should be burned, or cremated, and his ashes stored in a sacred urn to be preserved. Only the most important members of Albionian society are buried in special burial mounds designed especially for the purpose. A sacred beaker is then placed upon the mound. However, none except the Druids know the origins of these final rites, and none dare to question them.

Thus with the creation of the Tribal Council, and the riches involved with the export of tin, the future seems bright for the Confederation of Albionian Tribes. Under Chief Brennus, the most senior member of the council, they look to expand their religion throughout the rest of Britain, and then the world.

Oh, Abaddon~

I behoove it to you to assign me some NPC nations then. I'd like a cluster around a central area. I'd be in a level of involvement below actually playing but not really. That way I can write lazy orders for NPCs and show some diplomacy and watch them grow. :)

Oh, also, I realize that our nation background was to be akin to our Turn 0 orders, but I was lazy with my background/pressed for time. Therefore, I suggest that Rome bully around and generally subjugate small nearby towns, not granting them citizenship yet and generally expanding in Italia.

Stats should be up, make sure to review them to make sure I didn't make any glaring errors of interpretation. Hopefully I'll get update 0 up tonight; I'm still wrestling with what map to use (I'm tempted to use the one they use for RFMK), and might have a bit of work to do tonight. I also need some NPC's, and if there are any veteran players willing, they could take the Hittite or Assyrian empires. It'll be up by tomorrow night at the very latest.

And for those of you who are stretching realism by creating some cultures a couple of centuries early, I'll likely be lenient, but you may have to suffer through a short period of proto-whatever until you can evolve into its pure form.

Oh, and on advisors; Abaddon is pretty much handling that, so I have no idea who's been assigned who.

You can put me with any nation that you think needs a PC, or next to someone who would like me as a guide, if anyone does.

Offering to guest-mod this over the summer. I have some experience with playing, not modding.
