Steam Power is due in 4 with a positive bank.

Cash spawned settlers out of the conquered lands and spread across the north and west trying to stay away from the coasts yet still claim as much land as possible. According to the victory screen we hold 33% of the ground and CrpMap tells me 27% of the visible is yet unclaimed and most of that is probably on our continent but we can only see the edges of the other continent and some island outposts.

The island campaigns did not go well. The Spanish retook a town on their island and the Babylonians captured the other. After the army landed at the Spanish capitol a Spanish galley sank the healthy galleon so the army is now stranded. But Spain is now a OCC with an army threatening and the town captured by Babylon was burned to the ground on the retake.

The knight army on the Babylonian island was attacked by a single cavalryman and that was all she wrote.

As for the domestic scene all the new towns have their single citizen set as tax or scientists and are building settlers. Once Steam comes in they can be reassigned to farming so the towns can grow. There are galleons started in most of the coastal towns. Unfortunately most of them are on the wrong side of the continent froom what I think is our best approach to the other side of the world. The workers are concentrated in the center around One Horse for the start of the railing project. There are some strays in old India, however.

I suspected the shape of the world to be that way already. Too bad our 2 landings so far were wasted. But with so much land, we should be able to get some force over and start pillaging before flight.

We could build our own armies with the Mil Academy. Or should we try and Island hop and conquer?

I checked the save, we have indeed a lot of vacant land and those Island visible could be enough to get us 66%

By the way, with MM (lux to%) etc we can get steam at 2 or in 3 at good surplus. I would change all taxmen to scientists, always a better choice IMHO.

That is not good indeed, i guess we don't have enough units there to protect nearby cities. I would just send some knight armies there and retake those cities.

Lurker's comment:

If you abandon New Tonawanda I believe the only cities the cavs can reach are Marseilles and Niagara Falls. If you move the pike and knight from Marseilles to Niagara Falls you might get away with losing only one town.

we cannot afford them to capture towns. I would abandon whichever town that cannot be kept and slowly kill all those Cavs, lucky we get RR soon, else we are doomed.

Abandoning cities just gives their cavalry more room to roam. They can then move nine tiles instead of just three.

I think our knight armies can take things back. I would not abandon towns either. Send offense and defense as fast as you can and minimise the damage. We should be able to get it all back, but will lose some towns in the process. We are clearly not well enough defended. We also should work on rails ASAP as that will stop this problem in the future (but we are already doing this). Workers will help so don't sacrifice them if you can help it.

The save at 1250AD

IBT- English land 11 Cav and a rifle next to Marseilles. Pamplona flips.

Turn 1- Vet AC retakes Pamplona from spear. Move out the two pikes garrisoning Marseilles and New Tonawanda. Pillage the roads and abandon the towns to create a modest firebreak. Niagara Falls will fall, but I don’t want to create too much neutral ground. Science to 50%. Let’s hope during the next IBT, the English don’t land a force the same size or it could be a disaster.

IBT- Both our pikes die against English cav. Cav#3 dies against our elite knight at Niagara, but a second cav kills it and takes the town. They get 1 gold. We lose an elite spear in the open and an AC, but no further losses. 5 cav move next to empty Mountain Vale.

Turn 2- Elite MI kills 3hp cav. Vet AC kills 3hp cav. Vet cav kills vet English cav x5.
Vet cav kills reg English rifle at Niagara. Vet cav kills 3hp English cav at Niagara. So that leaves 2 from the invasion force. One is a 2hp in Niagara, so the other one is underneath. We shouldn’t lose any others. Steam in 1.

IBT- Steam in, Nationalism in 8.

Turn 3- Lose a cav to a 3hp rifle, our follow on cav kill the rifle and the two English cav. Niagara Falls is back in the fold. We collect 13 gold. Another English rifle bites the dust. I think he was in the original landing party. Start laying rails. 2 coal sources.

IBT- Quiet

Turn 4- Railing away.

IBT- Carthage building Shakes.

Turn 5- Replace New Tonowanda. 2 spears taken out in Spanish capital. More rails.

IBT- Babs building US.

Turn 6- Another Spanish spear and LB die at Pamplona, but will have to retreat next turn as army is weakened. More rail as the backbone is complete.

IBT- A little bombardment by frigates on the coast.

Turn 7- Start powering up the core with rails. Knock a hp off a Man-O-War.

IBT and all the way to turn 10- Rails and more rails. AI did it’s usual bombardment.

Post turn- 2 cities @ 25 spt and 4 more @ 20+. Should make it 5 with Oil Springs. I sold off some old cats to hurry the banks along in the core. We have enough workers to respond to any landings. 7 banks finishing in the top 7 shield cities within 5 turns to help our cash flow. Nationalism in 1.

On turn 1, I settled on abandoning two towns because for one thing, they were insignificant with only one aqueduct between them. And it created a physical break with the road pillaging. The armies were nowhere near the landing site. And that way we were only dealing with one town spawning rifles. As it was without rails the cav made it in time. And now with rails the AI will be committing suicide trying that again. ;)

Our MI army is healed and ready for another go with izzy. :D

The AI will land there again. We need a force over there ASAP. Well done M60!!

Obormot is up
I'm on deck

Very cool Obormot. I've never tried a HOF game. Seems like a great deal of work. You are to be commended.

I could not find the time to play yestoday. Now i am at work so if anybody can play now we can swap. If nobody takes it i'll play when i get home tonight.

Thanks for the congratulations. A HOF conquest game on a tiny map requires a lot of luck, i just played a lot of tiny maps untill i was lucky enough to beat the previous record. Each game took me about half an hour :)

pre-turn:
- I did some boring stuff: i went through all our cities and optimized scientists to let small cities grow ans larger ones produce beakers. This allowed me to lower sci slider by 3 notches and still get nationalism in 1 turn. I also reassigned builds because some hopelessly corrupt towns were building markets, libs, etc. - i changed that to workers, settlers and cannons.

1255
- Nationalism is discovered, electricity is next in 9 turns. From there we can either go for RP or scientific method hoping to build ToE - nobody built it yet.
- Last spanish city is captured and they are destroyed.

1260
- Start pulling galleons to the place where the distance between continents seems shortest.

IBT
- I forgot about a carthagian landing, they burned 1 city and captured another. Sorry for that. I usually turn off animation while doing my turn and turn it back on during the IBT to save time, but this time i forgot to do that.
- A volcano cuts our railroad net into two.

1265
- City recaptured from carthage.

IBT
- Well, this happened again. English captured our city, this time i had animation on, but they dropped units in the FoW, i moved the army that was uncovering it away to deal with some previous landing. This time they didn't raze anything, so we didn't loose anything. I recaptured the city and some slaves that they dropped.

1270
-

IBT
- English drop 5 cavs on the spanish island. I kill 2 of them with the army, but we don't have a good chance of holding against the remaining 3, so i disband the city.

1275
-

IBT
- English attack and kill our MDI army with cavalry even though i disbanded the city (It was slightly injured).

1280
- I abandonned the idea of moving galeons. Some of them were sunk, the others turned back, because there were too many enemy frigates. I decided that it would be better to drop armies and settlers on those islands.

1300
- We discover Electricity because price dropped. The AI have just discovered it, we are actually close to tech parity on AWD! I suggest that we go for scientific method now and grab ToE, so i started Medicine (6 turns), but this can be switched by the next player - no beakers invested yet.
- We can now drop an army on the largest bab island, but i left the decision to the next player. We have 38% land and much unclaimed, maybe we can even reach domination with those islands only. We can actually go for space-race  - i think an AWD space-race was never done before, but that would be a bit boring.

In an exiting and awesome thread like this, screenshots are the players duties.
Well, there was no territorial changes and i was too lazy to make screenshot just for fun. Maybe next time i'll post some :)
