Handy 19 Grumpy Old Men try AWD standard map

Preturn: Do some MM

IBT: Some French and Indian units advance

460 AD: Bombard and kill 4 MDI and a Longbow. Capture Rheims.

IBT: GA ends causing Elvis to riot so our FP does not complete.

470 AD: Lose 2 Elite units attacking 2 hp Archers
Capture Cherbourg. There is Saltpeter near Rheims and unconnected near Aspen. We have Captured Frances only source.

480 AD: Healing. I do kill some minor units. Pillage Salt (so if Rheims flips we don't get Musketeers - also want to continue to build Pikes).

490 AD: Still Healing

500 AD: Build Gorgon and Kauwaka.

510 AD: Capture Besancon.

520 AD:

IBT: Grenoble Deposes us (no units lost).

530 AD: Recapture Grenoble.

540 AD: Capture Hyderabad. We get a Leader becomes an Army. Capture Marseilles.

IBT: Babylon landing in the SE

550 AD: Abandon Rheims and replace it with Mountain Vale
We can see Amien, Lyons, and Paris. France only has 2 more cities past that. I am hoping none are island cities so we can eliminate France.

Notes:
We can soon send a knight Army across to Babylon. We have a 1 Knight Army in St Regis as well as a Knight. After we build the Knight in Salamanca, and we get the Galley from St Regis and Chondote, we should be able to send an Army across the sea. All units should meet in Chondote (Knights should go by land so they don't get sunk). We can load up the 1 Knight Army and the 2 knights and drop them off in Babylon territory in one turn. We can then start pillaging what might be the "other continent". Note that I wouldn't add a 4th knight. A 3 knight army is safe from any attacks at full health before tanks. We can move it off with Galleons rather than Transports if there is another continent, which is pretty likely.

The Knight army up North has only 3 knights. We can add one more if we choose. We have Spain and India to fight. Alternatively we can leave it at 3 to be able to move it when we get Galleons.

I did not go for Astronomy right away. I wanted to check with the knight army whether we need it. It is possible that Babylon territory connects with the rest of the world.

I kept French cities with the hopes of destroying France. Obviously, don't leave more than a single non-army unit in any city. Flips are only bad if you make them so by putting units in the cities. Our flip chances are reasonably high. We have two Settlers in the area to replace any that are not in the best locations. I would plan out where we want to place cities. If all goes well we can eliminate France in the next 5 or so turns. Keeping the French cities allowed us to expand faster than we would have otherwise been able to do. I want to move on to hurting Spain and India. Looks like there is a semi-choke up ahead which will be good (especially with the threat of Conquistadors).

Note that Hyderabad was Indian, not French.

A Bowman still lives in the SE from the landing. Not much we can do about it (this turn that is). I killed the other landed unit.

Spain does not yet have Astronomy, but should any day now. Remember that conquistadors are sneaky with a range of 6. I would keep an eye on Spain's tech so you know when that is a threat.

In the barrel again, I think. So got it.

Knights to Babylon. Kill the French, keep Isabella in her bottle and find India.

Doubtful. They would have already had a boat of some sort come by methinks.

One can always hope. :D We will find out after we pillage them a bit. If they are isolated, then we can do the next step of going for Astronomy and pillaging them, though my guess is that we may need magnetism to reach them.

The front has narrowed down nicely. Our favorite monk should roll.

First the not so good news. Got an army on the Babylonian lands to the west, but when the 1 knoght force was attacked loaded it with two more before I had scoped the island.

Now for th egood news. Paris is ours! And Spain has no horses. Two out of three ain't bad.

590 and 600 are spent moving around, choppping trees and watering grasslands

And that was it through 600. Now for the march on Paris.

I made too many full (three unit) armies in the homeland, but the English are coming and the Spanish and the Babylonians keep landing in various corners of the empire and I felt a mobile, active defense would be helpful. There are boats all over the place.

Frnace is now a 2 city, no horse, no salt, no iron empire and Spain and India are not much better.

There is at least one settler floating eastwards.

We are flat out of elites and loose troops for leader fishing. The troop training was pikes and a couple of knights.

Chemistry is due on the IT.

We might as well take over the 3 city island now that we have the army there.

Regrettably, we HAD an army there. Due to a lack of intelligence, the army was down to 4hp after having killed two reg muskets, and a Babylonian cav was then uncovered. I pulled the army back to fort, but smelling blood, the cav finished it off.

That's the only bad news to tell. I'll finish tomorrow, but Joan sleeps with the fishes and now we're after Spanish cities. :)

Bummer. I always try to send Joan to my harem. :D

The save at 750AD

Preturn- Science down to 20%, Astro still in 2. Ask Elizabeth for a peace offering of 3107 gold that is burning a hole in her pocket. She spurns our generous offer. So ends our tea party.

IBT- Spain pillages a tile by Paris. We get an AC.

Turn 1- At Paris against Spain. Kill pike, MI, MI, pike, MI, LB. Indian spear and archer (8-0). At Carchemish (Babylon) Knight army kills 2 reg muskets. Oops. Down to 4hp and a Bab cav uncovered. (10-0).

IBT- Our galley goes down to a Spanish one. (10-1). More importantly, the Bab cav does not attack our army. Spanish and Indians mill about Paris. Chemistry> Astronomy in 12 @ -3gpt. Paris flips, but the garrison was out, so no losses. France building Bachs.

Turn 2- Bombard Paris with captured French cats to redline spear, then use the AC that Paris produced to take it back. Kill red French LB in the vicinity (12-1). Spanish MI and LB. (14-1) Indian archer x4. (18-1) Pull the army back and fort.

IBT- Army bites the dust against Bab cav. (18-5) :(

Turn 3- 2 Indian archers and a Fr musket whacked. (21-5). Rest the troops.

IBT- French found Strasburg defended by Musket. (22-5)

Turn 4- Destroy Strasburg defended by musket. Destroy Dijon defended by spear.
(24-5) Redline an English caravel. French musket and Spanish pike/LB combo die at Paris. (27-5).

IBT- How nice. The Spanish sink an English galley. Looks like we’re not the only one warring. ;)

Turn 5- Reg pike and spear go down at Tours. (29-5). Joan is out of our lives. :p Two Indian archers gone. (31-5) Just a side note, looks like Lizzy may be fighting more than one opponent besides the Spanish. They seem to be slipping on the power bar. And we haven’t even found her yet.

IBT- Quiet.

Turn 6- More healing. Kill an Indian archer by Paris. (32-5).

IBT- Quiet again.

Turn 7- Kill Indian spear and archer north of Paris (34-5). 2 Spanish pikes, LB and MI go bye at Tours (38-5). Science to 80%, Astro now in 5. Lux tax off with a couple taxmen hired.

IBT- Babs land a LB/spear team in the east.

Turn 8- Vector in some troops to deal with the bogies. Kill Spanish pike pair with settler. (41-5). And an Indian spear. (42-5).

IBT- Bab team advances adjacent to empty Mountain Vale.

Turn 9- Bab team knocked off without loss. (44-5) Spanish lose 3MI, 2 pikes and a settler. (50-5). Lose an AC to an Indian spear. (50-6). Kill the spear and 2 archers. (53-6).

IBT- Lose an AC to Indian archer. (53-7).

Turn 10- A War Elephant is spotted north of Pamplona. Kill the Indian archer and spear. (55-7). Astronomy in 2, and done.

Until we can build caravels, I just saw galley sailing too dangerous. No sign of frigates yet. I had to hold back from sending any more troops north as we are very vulnerable to a cav landing. Any new knights have been staying in place. There is a forted settler SW of Tours that can drop another town if desired.

NOTE- Pamplona is empty because of the flip risk. There is a healthy MI army next to it, but the Indian WE could move in, so not sure how to handle that. As long as we control it, Spain and India really can’t get at us with the unimproved terrain to the SW.

City count has Spain @ 10 and India @ 9. Be advised Hammi has his top hat on, so he’s industrial-strength. I think he’s at war with Lizzy based on the power graph but no way to be sure. She’s fallen to 1471 in gold, so she’s definitely been running a negative cash flow since I started.

Sounds like good progress. Glad we could eliminate France so we don't have to worry about flips.

Note that I will also be traveling from this Friday (September 2) to Tuesday (September 6). I may or may not have internet access and probably cannot play. If I come up during that time, then also skip me.

I am not sure whether Obormot is available. I guess if he doesn't reply, he needs a skip
