Sea, river and canal look to be the way to go.

All the baddies are coming from north, no?

Pre-flight - send the settler off to the “sea” tile. Change Madrid to a warrior. Up lux.

IBT – Koreans keep coming. Madrid: warrior=>settler

1725 – Send a spear to Barcelona.

IBT – A Korean warrior attacks Barcelona and we lose a spear (0-1)
Seville: Walls=>worker

1700 – Found Santiago at sea tile. Lux up again.

IBT – Kill an attacking archer at Barcelona. The Gems are hooked up and a barb approaches from the south. (1-1)

1675 – Move a warrior to cover the gems from the barb. Science down.

IBT – A barb horse comes up from the south as well.
Madrid: settler=>warrior

1650 - Move our other warrior out of Madrid to cover Toledo.

IBT – WC=>writing
Madrid: warrior=> warrior (quantity over quality)

1625 – Oh, look what’s up here now:
Handy17_-_1625.JPG

Believe it or not, Hammi doesn’t show up on F4. I can’t afford to go meet him at the moment.

IBT – Kill an attacking Korean warrior. A barb horse moves with striking range of Madrid. (2-1)
Madrid: warrior=>settler
Seville: worker=>spear

1600 – Kill the Barb horse. Lose a warrior to a barb warrior. Kill the barb warrior. Lux down, science up. (4-2)

IBT – Kill a Korean warrior at Barcelona. The Celts build he Pyramids. (5-2)

1575 – Found River City. Three Koreans can attack next turn. A barb horse threatens Toledo. Empty Madrid to cover Barcelona and Toledo.

IBT – Kill a Korean archer, a Bab warrior strolls into view.
Madrid: settler=>warrior. This settler will head to the canal location.
1550 – I meet Hammi. Here’s the intell:
Handy17_-_Hammi.JPG

I don’t even bother and declare right away.
I find out that our road through the mountains to Santiago crosses a river as I head our settler towards the canal location.

1525 – Nada.

IBT – The Bab heads our way.
Madrid: warrior=>settler

1500 – Nada.

After Action: Here’s the SW. I would settle the Handy Canal on the Pink Dot.

Here’s the front along with the tracks of the various enemies:

ok got it, wow, 2 enemies and we have no iron or other techs to really defend properly. sending an unescorted settler south might be dangerous with barb on raging (?)

I guess this starting location isn't all that grand after all :lol: if we survive this, we are really good

What is our prebuild city?
Should we start it ASAP?

we have 6 cities and 1 a settler factory (the only productive city atm) . can we afford to prebuild?
how about River city, that is protected from the enemy?

tough start

Pre-Turn
since we face 2 enemies, decide to get some more spears, switch Madrid to spear, Seville to a MP warrior since it will
be a regular unit. one Madrid warrior goes to follow the settler, with barbs better escort the settler
decide to attack the Barb horse, we can't afford any barbs pillaging here, defeat it
increase science a notch
after all input, switch Seville to palace, one turn after the warrior

IT no attacks

1. 1475BC
moving the warrior to cover the settler reveals a barb horse

IT another Barb horse appears near gems

2. 1450BC
nth

3. 1425BC
barb horse is blocking our path to settle, warrior attacks and defeats it

IT the RNG is not with us as a reg warrior attacks vet spear behind walls at Barca and beats it :gripe:

4. 1400BC
found murcia in the south and we get a warrior from the hut
take out the barb horse near gems

IT 2 Barb warriros appear near Santiago

5. 1375BC
nth much we can do

6. 1350BC
2 warriors next to Santiago, defended by 1 warrior, pull Seville spear over

IT Santigo spear defends against the reg warriror

7. 1325BC
madrid produced another settler to claim the ivory, how to get there is another story

IT pillager spears appear and we better get some archer out

8. 1300BC
lower science, writing in next turn

IT this is bad, units ignore Barca and stream into core :eek:
we get writing, IW next in 8

9. 1275BC
kill an archer with our archer, but there are too many units and we have few

IT this is getting nightmarish as units don't attack but continue to run into our core :eek: :eek:

10. 1250BC
manage to kill 2 archer but 1 archer is exposed to enemy attack next IT
take out barb camp near gems for 25g
we have a settler pair in place for the ivory

Roster
1 Greebley
2 Handy
3 Bugs
4 Rat - just played and getting real grumpy
5 bede - up, getting rid of pesky pillagers
6 Romeo - on deck for first grumpy experience
7 Matt

Ho boy, talk about being squeezed into God's own half acre...
Somewhere east of the Rock and west of the Hardplace. :lol:

Greebley said:
I like Seville assuming it can grow past size 6 I think.

Seville needs a duct to get past size 6.

Got it, but won't test the waters Sunday evening.

Let the invader stream towards our core. As soon as they step out into the open to pillage, nail 'em with an archer. We're really not in bad shape...yet.

I suspect they will bypass for awhile. As long as they see weaker targets past the front...

The bypass might stop once all cities have spears.

Babylonian spear steps out into the open, and a Korean archer fells anarcher at Barca. The Babylonian spear defeats the archer produced at Madrid but is killed by the conscript warrior who promotes to regular.

Found Valencia in 1225 but it is going to take a beating from the Babylonians.

In 1200 the Babs attack with two warriors and promote the spear at Valencia to elite.

In 1175 Madrid grows but gets a tax collector because otherwise it is working an unimproved mountain. The Koreans have turned back home but another pair is inbound at Barcelona.

Lose an archer and a warrior trying to kill the Babylonian spear at Madrid and lose another archer at Barcelona trying to kill a Korean spear covering an archer west of Barcelona.

In 1150 the Korean archer steps off the mountain into the open and is eliminated by an archer from Barcelona. A Bab bowman attacks at Valencia but is struck down by the spear. A Korean archer impales himself on a spear at Barcelona.

In 1100 the first Korean sword appears at Samarra, and we learn Iron Working and start on Maths ematics die is 7 @-4 with a scientist at Madrid. We have iron in the borders in the mountains west of Seville.

In 1075 the Korean spear steps off the mountain and threatens the road to Seville so risk an archer from Madrid to kill him.

The Koreans now have a nice stack of combined arms threatening Barcelona.
hndy17_1075.jpg

The Korean swordsman dies but an archer kills a spear.

Kill another Korean spear on the road to Barcelona. The Koreans have rebuilt their stack at Barcelona and the Babylonians are piling swords and bows at Valencia.

hndy17_1000_01.jpg

The citizens at Madrid require constant fiddling to keep the science rate up, the entertainment tax down and the treasury from going broke. Right now we have a taxman at Madrid with science at 90 and Maths due in 3 @-2 with 16g in the treasury.

There are two workers working on the iron mountain and the others are trying to improve the suburbs of Seville.

The bypass has stopped even though most of the troops are at the front. Barcelona and Valencia are taking the brunt and Valencia is short defenders. There is reinforcement on the way but the lack of roads is slowing him down.

The situation is in hand for now but once a Bab bowman wins a victory at Valencia the Red Tide will wash over our shores.

sounds like a pretty rough ride, if we don't get lucky fast with a MGL and sword army, we can shelf this game
