Hatty - Monarch Cookbook Mark II (IC concurrent)

@Aldor

Spoiler :

Awesome overview of the saves, well done. I'd like to point out that my save actually
has 2 academies up :) And the barb city is up cause it's in a bad spot and not worth
dealing with at the moment. Once that region needs settling, the barb city can be
dealt with at leasure.

@ Aldor you are voting yet I don't think lymond has closed the round. The BPT in your comparison means little as Stephen BPT on my edited version of his save had a lot more BPT. So this comparison shows his save in a bad light. There also no indication of how many cities were running wealth.

Thanks for standing up for my save gumbolt:D!!:goodjob:

@ Kossin - It is nice you had a specifix learning lesson for this game.

If you remember, the previous game with the Chinese had early commerce as the target with a "useless" lake tile that was about all you'd get for research before Writing :D

Of course, once a game reaches a stable empire (one that can defend itself and can have 6 cities), I can't control how the players choose to play on, which usually means war as Civ is biased towards warlike approaches.

Oops sorry, didn't mean to offend anyone. Take my overview as a "what I'm thinking so far, subject to change" please. You're right, I didn't take running wealth into account (to get those numbers, I only adjusted the tech slider until I had a positive cash flow, without changing city settings anywhere). For a really fair comparison it must be considered.

Note to all that Round 2 is still open, so more submissions are welcome. However, since it appears that submissions are slow to come at this point, I will look to end the round earlier - say mid-day tomorrow (EST). Round was probably long enough anyway.

Oh...and Gumbolt has been banned from the MC thread :D:lol:;)

Grrrrrrr. :lol:

Some feedback. Not really a comprehensive tally. I've got my choices but will vote when round is closed. :)

@Vranasm
Spoiler :
Pros: The Great Library, 2 GS, Academy in Thebes.
Cons: Giza...did your cat jump on your keyboard? :badcomp: :p
Other: Temple of Artemis? Best place for it, but still.

@Cripp
Spoiler :
Pros: Holy city Shrine in Timbuktu. Loads of Courthouses.
Cons: No GP yet? Prophet-tainted GP pool in Timbuktu. HRE stack in Ulm.
Other: Spy in Alexandria? Monastaries?

@Invalice
Spoiler :
Pros: Academy in Thebes running 3 scientists. Holy city Shrine in Anasazi.
Cons: No spices city. No marble. HRE military buildup. HRE planted city in middle of empire on barb city incense.
Other: Allied with Buddhist HRE? Temple of Artemis in Ulundi?

@Siran
Spoiler :
Pros: Forges everywhere.
Cons: BPT shortage.
Other: Colossus? Academy in Anasazi? You're running slider so low that commerce goes to taxes, not science. Build academy in GP farm.

@Cenan
Spoiler :
Pros: Military instructor and Heroic epic in Ulundi. TGL on the way in Thebes. Pyramids in Thebes.
Cons: Thebes is small - too many farms though - should have been cottages. Ulundi is small - needs more farms. Very small military - WCs not on the front line - small front line forces. Barb city there with no plan to take it. No spices city.
Other: FOrbidden palace? Build military instead.

@Stevoh
Spoiler :
Pros: JC and HRE blocked well. TGL on the way in Thebes.
Cons: Serious BPT shortage. Small Pi-Ramesses Dye city. Timbuktu is tiny.
Other: Overall besides tech it looks like a save from many turns back. Growth got stunted - by whipping? And taking cities late. Catherine closing in on your score somehow.

@Trynthlas
Spoiler :
Pros: Big military - 2 stacks outside JC. Pyramids in Thebes. Lots of Courthouses. GS in Thebes. G.Mil in Ulundi. Silver city.
Cons: No marble city. No Spices city. Too much jungle, including on the Dyes.
Other: No barb incense city? Not sure who you're going to take out with those WCs. Both targets have Spearman.

@Aldor
Spoiler :
Pros: Holy city shrine in Timbuktu. Spices city is rare from other saves.
Cons: Dyes under jungle still - could at least farm them until Calendar. *Way* too many roads and workers building ahead of 1 pop cities when they have better jobs to do. Not enough Courthouses.
Other: *Huge* number of WCs (27!). What do you plan to do with them all? Build cheaper garrisons for HR happy.

Round 2 Voting Begins

The voting for Round 2 is now open Looks like just about everyone from Round 1 submitted plus a couple of new players. The voting will last for 2 days and will close at approximately Midnight EST on Tuesday. Please post a request for additional time needed to vote, but I would like to close by early Wednesday at the latest to get the next round going. (The voting round could end sooner if everyone gets their votes in earlier)

Standard cookbook doctrine: Its not always about voting for the best save but the save that will be most interesting or challenging to play. Anyone that submitted a save is free to vote.

Please rank your top 3 in order.

First place 3 points.
Second place 2 points
Third place. 1 point.

PLEASE NOTE!! To keep voting fair you cant vote for your own save. You are expected to vote for 3 saves and give reasons for your voting. Remember this is a learning game. I would encourage everyone to act within the spirit that the cookbook is intended.

Walkabout

Please let me know if I missed anyone's save and I will add it to the list promptly.

Besides the reasons I posted above:

:trophy: 1st place: Vranasm
Excellent BPT. High pop. GP farm in Thebes is already on its way with 2 GS and academy. Cottages grown, spices, dyes connected.

:trophy2nd: 2nd place: Cripp
Decent BPT. Average pop. Holy shrine. Courthouses everywhere.

:trophy3rd: 3rd place wildcard: Invalice
BPT is ok. I don't like the HRE encroachment or the low number of cities. But the tech so far is good, calendar resources hooked up.

Overall, I'd say good job to everyone on this round. :)

OK repeating my (a little premature) vote here ;)

1st place: Fezzik
2nd place: vranasm
3rd place: Cripp

I think these three offer the best in terms of a good base to play on.

Ok, Here's me.
Spoiler :
Not real happy with this. Feels like I lost focus and was perpetually scrambling to hold back the barbs and keep my economy from crashing. Probably over extended, but at least I'm finally starting to recover.

I figured to play a specialist heavy game, so COL was a priority to be able to switch in and out of slavery/caste (trying to make the most of Hatty's spiritual trait.) tech path was priesthood>code of laws>meditation>iron>alpha>math>currency. Traded for math and hunting from Charlie for col; col and alpha to asoka for masonry, sailing and monarchy. Bulbed philo, traded it to Asoka too for monotheism, constrction and archery. Currently working on bureau.

Had a brief war with Cathy, but she accepted a truce after losing a couple of armies. Probably haven't heard the last of her. Julie's causing trouble too. Had to settle Elephantine in a poor spot to beat him to it. Got lots of land and no gold. Barely holding a tech lead but getting better. Anxious to see what others have done.

Came up a bit short I think. Not quite sure what part set you back the most though.

9 is not enough workers. Too much unimproved land. Thebes should be fully cottaged by now. Cities too small. Running too many merchants and not building Wealth anywhere. Running artists on the borders is questionable too -- you're not gaining much from it. I see an academy but I don't know if you got any more GP. Not seeing them anywhere. EDIT: oh you bulbed Philosophy I see. Well that's good then.

Others managed to build multiple wonders and holy city shrines. Too much production spent on temples and such I think.

Skipping Calendar might not be wise. Hereditary Rule garrisons are better than temples. Could have actually backfilled Meditation later I think. You didn't mention when you got Monarchy, but HR is key. That and Calendar. You made the same mistake that I did getting CoL before Currency. I misplanned the trades, though, to end up in that position due to AI teching Alphabet late and was unable to get Currency off The Oracle.

Something held you back. The wars, the worker shortage, or the tech path. 65 BPT at 20% is well behind most others. Not sure how you got into war with Cathy. Most people have scouted her land by now though and found Asoka.

@fezzik

you know there is that copper and pigs otherwise wasted... hope it will make at least decent city in a loooooong run :)

I reviewed all saves and made some notes to be as objective as I can. Actually I picked only 3 saves for making order between them and not more, that's great.

order: (after really long thought that lasted at least 2-3 days I assure you)

:trophy: Cripp7 - well i wrote everything earlier, so just... you deserve first place!

:trophy2nd: Cenan - ah those mids...my first instinct was completely wrong and the mids save could have been much much better! you wasted there reall big potential man...

:trophy3rd: Fezzik - I think i didnt comment on the save earlier... just small remark about techs. Not prioriting Calendar costed you 1 place in my votes! Silver and a bit unimproved land costed you another. I was impressed with city size you got, but imagine you had 5 different sources of happy from calendar connected and the HR garrison... I think wasted potential too.

I didn't even get a mention in the voting blurb for completing the game.

You're right. Well, there's still time...potentially :)

I'll be away from the game for the next 2 weeks or so as I am home for vacation before the next university semester. I'm away from the game so I will abstain from voting for this round. My game may or not make it in on time for next round but rest assured I'm following everyone's progress :).
