have you ever participated in a quiz team?

I'm a fan of pub quizzes but I've never done something that formal.

My school's B team is ranked 322 on that site, and our A team (which I'm on) is ranked 897. :crazyeye:

We beat those B teamers handily in practice every single time, but they seed the B teams against other B teams in the tournament, so they typically get further in, while we seem to play White Plains A (118), Horace Greeley A (76), and the like every time. :o

We're going to Nationals though.

EDIT: It looks like only one tournament we participated in counted.

That one sucked. We kick ass in the prelims and get the sixth seed out of ninety teams in a field of 32, and lose to the 27 seed in the first round.

By the way, is anyone else going to Nationals at George Mason this year? I know our A and B teams are going.

Our A and B teams are planning on going (I would assume we would be in Washington) pending funding.

Well, George Mason is a good 10 miles outside the city, so prepared to be dissapointed if you're looking for the city.

I knew where the tourney was-- the sections are just referred to as Chicago, Washington, and San Antonio! (at least where I am)

I am A Team co-captain of a very highly ranked high school quiz bowl team. Right now we're getting ready for the Weekend of Quizbowl Goodness at GMU from the 14th to the 16th. For learning, the random article idea is not really a good one. Just get old question sets from NAQT or PACE and practice with those, because there is a "canon" that question writers generally draw from. Some tournaments do use the random article on Wiki to get question ideas, but that's ********.

sweet! our school (Torrey Pines) will be at Weekend of Quizbowl this year!

(we're only ranked 107th, but California and SoCal especially is pretty isolated from the national qb community)

HSNCT nationals, or god forbid PAC or NAC nationals?

America has no tradition of pub quizzes. Just as well.

I'm captaining our college's University Challenge team. We stand next to no chance of actually getting on the show though...

I participated in a regional 16 school subject based competition from in HS 10-12th grades. I was on the Social Studies and All-Around teams, which won the championship twice and once respectively while I was on them. Over the same period I also participated in the Virginia High School League's scholastic bowl competition, in which my team reached the state competition all three years. It was a whole lot of fun.
