Have you ever taken an IQ test?

I took one in middle school that qualified me for the gifted program (130+ IQ) but never got the exact answer, probably because I would have made an ass out of myself with that knowledge.
That reminds me of this old Dilbert strip.

Same here. When I went to 4th grade, I had the opportunity to skip straight to 6th after taking an IQ test. My parents said no, and nobody ever told me the results. It's probably more likely that I bombed it and they didn't want to embarrass me. I was in my previous school's gifted program but it wasn't anything special, just basic puzzles and math. Any IQ-related test I've looked at since I haven't done well at. I fundamentally don't "get" the pattern recognition. I'd be surprised if I was above 100.

I took an IQ test when I was in school. According to it, my IQ was 90. :twitch:

As a joke, I once took an online one and got like 69.

The last five questions were really hard, I doubt even Mike Wallace would be able to answer them.

I got to do cognitive testing, but the results were with regards to my cohort (age, race, gender, educational status). It was kind of fun, for sure.

An IQ test really only measures how good you are at taking an IQ test.

IQ tests do not measure whether or not you are a good person.

IQ tests are not very good at measuring somebody's level of intelligence. They are good at measuring a certain kind of intelligence. If you do well on an IQ test you can be assured that you are good at completing IQ tests. It might not tell you much about how intelligent you really are, though.

Last 2 tests I took tell me I'm a freaking genius.

Yeah, okay, sure

How stupid would you have to be to believe in a single generalisable measurable intelligence?
On an individual level, it’s not a good indicator of future success. In groups, it seems to be a fair measure.

But I wouldn’t go so far as to say that one single measurable intelligence exists, or that social scientists have managed to identify how to objectively assess it.

As a kid, Los Angeles divided us into Advanced Students [i.e. High IQ], Average Students, and Slow Students [low I.Q.]. This allowed teachers to present information most appropriate to each group.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it wasn't a successful program.

My wife is getting a masters in counseling psychology. As such, she has to be able to administer assessments. Because of that, I took the MMPI, NEO, and other assessments, and an IQ test as well (Wechsler). I have very bad testing/performance anxiety, so that part sucked, but the test itself was sort of fun to take.

IQ as a concept sucks big time though

I started this thread out of curiosity because I’d never taken one and not heard of anyone I can recall taking one under the proper conditions. It seems that many have!
