Hawk03-5CC Persian Astronauts

Probably should, lest a culture pop steal our spices. I got it, will probably play tomorrow night. Looking good, I'll try to keep things moving. I think we need to get Astronomy soon, so we can build Copernicus in Persepolis. I know we love cavalry, but we need those science things too.

I agree, Norwich should be taken out. Does England have Iron? If so, Cavalry would speed things up. But like Overseer I think Cops is better for our infrastructure.

Any progress, Overseer??

I will be out of town this weekend, so if I come up, can you guys push me back a slot or 2?

I'm basically finished, just need to do the various housekeeping tasks. I declared war on England and burned 2 of their towns. We are also at war with the Mongols, which is good right now, gives us war happiness. The empty lands are drawing settler pairs in, and Carthage has built a city outside their cordon(by boat). The Greeks are also becoming a problem. I'm trying to build an airtight area, but our "friends" keep nibbling into our colony area. Here is the turn-log:

killerkid, if you can take it now, please do so, and I'll play when you're done, then Tassle can probably play.

I can get it tonight or tomorrow.

I'm done. We razed York, have Astronomy, and our No Mans Land border is in good condition. 2 new cities were founded on the old one so it has been pushed back a tad.

We are now researching banking, en route to Democracy, but I just started it and it can be changed with no loss in beakers.

The set:
Spoiler :
Turn 0-Everything looks shipshape. The only thing is I MM SUsa to lose one food but gain a shield, making its Couthouse due in 3. Oh, and everyone except Egypt is furious at us.

IBT-Germans found stuttgart next to our blockade on the German side.

Turn 1-760 AD-Push blockade back outside stuttgarts borders. We'll be OK until it expands. No other city can be founded to push us back, as we have all squares covered except one 2 squares away from Stuttgart.

IBT-A lone English Spearman is coming.

Turn 2-770 AD-
Send a knight out on a hill to kill the spear.

IBT-English LB appears. English galley is spotted near our Carthage blockade.
Susa Courthouse>University, Antioch Aqueduct>Temple

Turn 3-780 AD-Knight kills spear (1-0) Wait for the LB to get closer before striking.

IBT-An english spear and a settler pair come out of the fog. Arbela Temple>University.

Turn 4-790 AD-Knight kills longbow. (2-0) Put troops on high ground adjacent to AI units.

IBT-Pasargadae University>Colosseum

Turn 5-800 AD-Knight kills spear, knight kills spear in spear settler combo. (4-0)
i decide to take a risk and send 3 knights in striking distance of York.

IBT-ZZZZ

Turn 6-810 AD-

@York
Knight kills spear
Knight kills spear, razes city. (6-0)

I try and make the border the best I can, but there will be AI cities where York was once the settlers get there.

IBT-Greek settler pair comes into old York area. that was fast.

Turn 7-820 AD-Lower science to 0%, astro still coming in 3.
Get York attacking knights almost back to Colony area.

IBT-England wants peace. I decide to take the deal (and giv us 44 gold and 2gpt) because they are plenty set back, and we will be getting WW soon.

Turn 8-830 AD-Full border of our part of No-Mans Land is intact again. (I left some holes in the assault on York.)

IBT-Greeks found halicarnessus right next to our NNE border.

Turn 9-840 AD-I move the border back a bit. Not much else.

IBT-Antioch Temple>University Astronomy>Banking (10 turns)

Turn 10-850 AD-I'm not sure if we should go for banking, but democracy is a bonus. Not much here in the set, either.

Picture and save are attached.

Well, regardless of whether or not we want Democracy, Banking is a tech we'll want.

Got it, will play either tonight or tomorrow.

Democracy? I see no reason for that detour, except maybe as trade bait. We need to move as fast as we can toward the Industrial Age and our next free tech. If we need Democracy, we can trade for it, but Republic is fine for our purposes.

Well, I thought Democracy would be nice because the +100% worker speed would be handy when we got to rails, but then we do have a lot of workers, so I'm fine without it.

Also, are we switching the Sistene Chapel in Persepolis to Copernicus'?

+50% Worker speed.

And remember, our unit support of 0 would stay the same. The only way Democracy is worse than Republic is the WW, and we're already avoiding long wars, so it shouldn't be an issue.

But we aren't a religious civ, so there would be the anarchy to deal with. Why research 2 optionals, plus go through anarchy, to get a minimal benefit? Besides, we already are Industrious, we already get faster workers(though I'm not sure about slaves getting the benefit of that trait until we get RP. And to answer the Sistine question, yes, that is the pre-build for Copernicus. Switch immediately, as it's probably already more than enough shields. After it finishes, start Sistine or Palace for a JS Bach's pre-build. It's an optional tech worth pursuing, though Sistine might actually be better this go-round.

And... Done.

I've got some good news and some bad news.

The good news is we now have Copernicus observatory.

The bad news is, Greece declared war in Turn 3, and although I razed Halicarnassus and Troy, I had to move the blockading dudes to fight Greece and save workers. As a result, Germany has built 3 cities in the previously empty area, one of which destroyed our Spices Colony. Obviously, they must die for this, but right now, we have Greeks to fight.

In other news, the continents have contact with each other, thanks to Egypt's learning of Astronomy.

Anyway...

Pre-Turn (850 AD):
-I don’t see any point in the Carthaginian blockade any more. The AI never builds cities 2 tiles from another city, and most of the remaining land in the area is 2 tiles from another city. So I reposition the troops to only keep Carthage off the tiles that are more than two squares from another city. This now means only 4 troops are needed, and none will be needed once Susa’s borders have expanded.
-I switch Persepolis to Copernicus, to be done in 5 turns.
-Why is a slave mining a square outside our territory? I order him to stop, that won’t help us.
-We’re a bit short on embassies, aren’t we? I build a few in every nation but Mongolia, who we’re at war with, and the Aztecs, due to expense (I don’t want to spend too much money on embassies!). The German capital sucks, the Greek capital’s mediocre, but Thebes isn’t that bad.

IBT:
-Pasargadae: Colosseum->Sistine as pre-build for JS Bach or Smith’s
-Susa: Uni->Cathedral

Turn 1 (860 AD):
-I notice we have an unconnected Iron to the south of Arbela. I send some workers to hook it up, so that we may trade it to someone.

IBT:
-Memphis completes the Sistine Chapel. So much for Pasargadae’s pre-build…

Turn 2 (870 AD):
-I switch Pasargadae to a musket. I’ll build a few, send them to places with out-dated units, and disband the out-dated units to ease our unit support cost.

IBT:
-Greece has some troops near our blockade, what’s Alex doing?

Turn 3 (880 AD):
Zzz

IBT:
And, I get my answer:

hawk03greecewaryc7.jpg

-In battles, Greece kills one of our Immos, but also loses 2 MDI. (2-1)
-Carthage sends some settler pairs into our territory.
-Pasargadae: Musket->Musket
-Arbela: Uni->Knight

Turn 4 (890 AD):
-I politely tell Hannibal to get the hell out of our territory, which he says he will.
-I pull our workers away from Troy, their blockade does us no good any more.
-5-hp immo fails to even scratch an MDI. :mad: (2-2)
-Immo kills MDI (3-2)
-Knight kills MDI (4-2)
-Knight kills LBM (5-2)
-Now that I can, I decide to attack Halicarnassus. 2 Knights kill 2 MDI, and the city is autorazed. (6-2)

IBT:
-Greece’s counter-attack consists of killing a Knight. (6-3)
-Carthage didn’t get the hell out of our territory.
-Since I had to break the blockade to fight Greece, Germany sends 2 settler pairs into the empty area. Crap.
-Persepolis: Copernicus->Knight

Turn 5 (900 AD):
-Kill a Greek Archer, 2 LBM, and 3 MDI, although I lose an Immo attempting to kill a Hoplite guarding a settler. (12-4)
-The Immos aren’t doing too well at all today, I lose 2 trying to kill the Hoplite in Troy. (12-6)
-I tell Carthage to get the hell out if they don’t want a war, they get out.
-I switch Susa and Antioch to Knights, we need some troops right now.

IBT:
-In battles, we lose a Knight and Greece loses an MDI. (13-7)
-Germany builds the city of Bonn, destroying our spices colony. :cringe:
-Susa: Knight->Knight

Turn 6 (910 AD):
-Since we will probably need it to fight the Greeks, I sign an RoP with Germany, and take all 4 of their gold in the deal.
-This time, I kill the Greek settler pair, but the Immo that did the job is now doomed. (14-7)

IBT:
-Although, he does manage to kill a Greek MDI before his death. (15-8)
-Germany builds another city in no-man’s land.
-Carthage by-passes my blockade with a galley. Grr…
-Pasargadae: Musket->Musket

Turn 7 (920 AD):
-I send several Immos, some catapults, and a Knight to besiege Troy. It will be attacked shortly.

IBT:
-Apparently, Greece has a RoP with Germany. This does not bode well for us…
-We get Banking, I set research to Chemistry. I know we want the wonders, but we’re at war with a KAI, we need military techs, not wonder techs.
-Antioch: Knight->Knight

Turn 8 (930 AD):
-Oh CRAP, Troy has a Musket. I decide to attack anyway.
-Catapults fail to hit it, although they do kill some Trojans.
-Immo kills Musket, there’s another one there. (16-8)
-Immo dies on this one. (16-9)
-And then a Knight kills it, and Troy is no more. (17-9)
-I lose an Immo in the process, but I kill a Greek MDI. (18-10)

IBT:
-Lose a Knight and a Pike, but kill a LBM (19-12)
-Persepolis: Knight->Knight

Turn 9 (940 AD):
-Egypt suddenly has Music Theory and Chemistry. At first, I wonder how that’s possible, no one else has either tech, but then I realize they could have gotten it from Greece. I check F4, and yep, they have contact with everyone on our continent.
-Because of that, I decide now’s the time to trade the Mongol and Aztec contacts while I still can. I collect 33 gold and some World Maps doing so.

IBT:
-Pasargadae: Musket->Musket
-Arbela: Knight->Knight

Turn 10 (950 AD):
-Knight kills MDI (20-12)
-I see what Greece will offer for Peace. They’ll give 22 gold and a WM. We can accept this deal if we want and go kill Carthage and Germany, or continue fighting a little while longer.

Spoiler End of Turn Image :
hawk03950adbu4.jpg

So, which should we do? Continue fighting Greece, or stop fighting Greece and raze those German cities? Regardless of which we choose, I have most of our military in Antioch, ready to attack somebody.

Attachments

Well, we don't want to go overboard, but if we DOW the germans, we'll just be fighting those 2 wars on our continent. Once we raze the 4 encroaching German cities, we can set up some muskets on those mountains (between the water) to force them back to their home or make em die.
