Never tell me the odds
Heavenly Sword and Dragon Saber

Welcome to "Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber", a Wuxia IOT which takes place during the final years of the Mongol Yuan Dynasty. Will you lead your Martial Arts Sect to victory or shall you be crushed by your opponents?
Joining:
To join, fill out a submission:
Name of Sect: (Name must be Chinese. And no silly names.)
Name of Leader: (Name must be Chinese. And no silly names.)
Technique: (See below)
Technique:
Techniques are the methods used to fight. They are Kung Fu styles. Pick one of those three:
Tiger Style
A style that is based on prowess (gives +4 * Level for each Prowess level).
Snake Style
A style that is based on fastness (gives +4 * Level for each Fastness level).
Crane Style
A style that is based on exquisiteness (gives +4 * Level for each Exquisiteness level).
Skills:
Each character has three skills:
Prowess, Fastness, Exquisiteness.
Those skills are used in fighting your opponents. All characters begin with Level 1, so you have 1 in each skill. Example:
Prowess: 1 (Level 1)
Fastness: 1 (Level 1)
Exquisiteness: 1 (Level 1)
As stated above, the styles give you +4 * Level on an ability, based on which style you have chosen. For example, a character that has snake style, has the following skills:
Prowess: 1 (Level 1)
Fastness: 1 (Level 1) + 4 (Snake style) = 5
Exquisiteness: 1 (Level 1)
A character with level 2 Fastness will have + 8 Snake style, because 4 * Level 2 = 8. A character with level 3 Fastness will have + 12 Snake style, because 4 * Level 3 = 12. And son on. So, to use an another example, a snake style fighter with Level 5 fastness will have the following skills:
Prowess: 1 (Level 1)
Fastness: 5 (Level 5) + 20 (Snake style) = 25
Exquisiteness: 1 (Level 1)
Easy, right?

Fighting:
In order to win a fight, you must win either two or three rounds. To win the first round, you must have two better skills than your opponent. To win the second round, you must be better at your own style. For example:
Cheng Kun VS Zhang Wuji:
Cheng Kun:
Prowess: 7 (Level 7)
Fastness: 5 (Level 5)
Exquisiteness: 12 (Level 12) + 48 (Crane style) = 60
Zhang Wuji:
Prowess: 10 (Level 10) + 40 (Tiger style) = 50
Fastness: 8 (Level 8)
Exquisiteness: 4 (Level 4)
Results:
Round 1:
Prowess: Zhang Wuji wins!
Fastness: Zhang Wuji wins!
Exquisiteness: Cheng Kun wins!
Zhang Wuji is the winner of Round 1!
Round 2:
Cheng Kun:
Exquisiteness: 12 (Level 12) + 48 (Crane style) = 60
Zhang Wuji:
Prowess: 10 (Level 10) + 40 (Tiger style) = 50
Cheng Kun is the winner of Round 2!
If Wuji was also better than Cheng Kun in the second round, he would have won. But since there is a tie, RNG shall be used. I will RNG from 1 to 10. The one with the largest number shall win.
Round 3:
Cheng Kun: 7
Zhang Wuji: 9
Zhang Wuji is the winner!
Updating Level:
Each Level costs 30 XP. Each battle you win gives you 10 XP, so if you win 3 battles, you get an update. Do not worry, there are many NPCs you can challenge except for other players.
NPCs:
NPCs are either lone Pugilists or Sect Leaders.
Lone Pugilists:
The job of those NPCs is to allow the players to update their skills by fighting them and defeating them. They have only levels and no style. You can challenge up to 2 pugilists each turn. However, to fight the second match, you should have won the first.
Sect Leaders:
Those pugilists are really, really strong, so do not take them on unless you are sure you are powerful enough. The Sects that will appear will be:
- Wudang
- Shaolin
- Emei
- Kunlun
- Huashan
Random Kung Fu Manuals and Teachers:
Like in Kung Fu movies, where the hero either finds a lost Kung Fu Manual or an old Teacher who lives in seclusion, you will also be able to find such items/teachers.
Every turn, I will RNG. The one who gets 10, shall find such item/person and can instantly update that turn 2 of his skills by 1 level.
Managing your Sect:
Your Sect gives you students and gold.
Students:
For each level of your own skill, you will get 1 Student. For example, a level 1 Snake fighter (which means fastness is his own skill) gets 1 student. A level 2, 2 students. A level 30, 30 students. And so on.
Gold:
Each student gives you 5 gold. With gold, you can buy Kung Fu manuals or hire teachers.
Buying Manuals and Hiring Teachers
A manual costs 10 * the level of your own skill in gold, and allows you to instantly update 1 of your skills by 1 level.
A teacher costs 20 * the level of your own skill in gold, and allows you to instantly update 2 of your skills by 1 level.
Sect Warfare:
The warfare between different Sects is simple. Three are decisive factors: Numbers, Skill, RNG. Numbers is the number of students. Skill is the combination of the levels of all three of your skills.
Example:
Shaolin VS Wudang:
Numbers: 20 - 18
Skill: 52 - 55
RNG: 1 - 8
Wudang Sect wins!
Casualties:
For each student, I RNG from 1 to 10. Students of the winner have 20% chance of dying. Students of the loser, have 50% of dying.
Defections:
I then RNG again for the surviving students of the Sect that was defeated. Each student has 50% chance of defecting to the Sect that defeated them.
The Sect Leader has three choices:
- Let them go: it means that you do not accept them, but you do not kill them either. They remain to their Sect. This improves your image to the large NPC Sects (Shaolin, Huashan, etch).
- Kill them: you get rid of them, but this may provoke intervention from the large NPC Sects, which do not like such behavior.
- Allow them to join: you get more students and gold, but for 2 turns, each student will have 40% chance of defecting back to his old Sect. After those 2 turns pass, the students will be loyal to you.
NPC Intervention:
The large Sects, like Shaolin or Huashan, do not like overambitious Sect leaders or very ruthless persons who kill all of their opponents. If you are far too ambitious, they may organize a campaign against you, either on their own or all of them together. And if they do start such a campaign, PC Sects may join them. So, do not be overaggressive unless you can handle the consequences of your actions.
Espionage:
Here is where espionage comes into the game. You can spend Gold to spread rumors about atrocities of a PC Sect and so justify your attack. Espionage costs 15 * number of enemy students Gold, and has 40% chance of success. So, you can be an hypocrite who pretends to be a righteous Kung Fu Master but is in fact an evil and ambitious person.
Each espionage action has 10% chance of being found. This will damage your reputation.
After defeat:
If you are defeated, in order to gain new students, you must fight a certain amount of battles: the number of the level of your own skill (for example, for a Snake fighter, fastness) - the number of students that remain to your Sect. For example:
A snake fighter with 20 Level fastness and 5 students surviving the defeat and staying loyal to the Sect, will have to fight 15 battles to regain 15 students and then continue gaining students as normal.
Victory:
To win, you must either:
- Exterminate all other Sects
- Become more powerful than all NPC Sects combined, so those Sects shall elect you as Chancellor of Jianghu (Martial Arts World).
