Heirs to Heaven

I'm willing to negotiate your retreat from my lands, not your victory prizes.

In any case. Your offer is agreeable. I do not expect to see you so close again. I just hope Davenport will be free by the time we get to the trial. ...

Proposed treaty in the spoiler, House Isthon is already prepared to be a signatory and requests signatures from all Houses, though in particular Houses involved in either the Summer Pact or the Grand Alliance as well as the key neutral Houses Taran and Iskaakios.

Spoiler :
The Treaty of Davenport

This Treaty serves to establish a lasting peace across the Kingdom of Heaven especially in the matters concerning the conflict between the Grand Alliance and the Summer Pact, as represented by leaders or delegates from Houses de Toullies and Mephisels.

The Treaty in particular wishes to establish agreeable resolutions for the following particular points of contention between the two organizations:

  • The governance of lands formerly controlled by House Braxton and now occupied by a joint Summer Pact force
  • The governance of lands formerly controlled by House Mephisels and now occupied by a joint Grand Alliance force
  • The governance of lands formerly controlled by House Atkyn and now controlled by House Polud with forces in allegiance to the Grand Alliance
  • The reparations due to either party as a result of the War of 417
  • The establishment of a precedent for interaction between the two Houses, and for how Justice between the two should be carried out

Point 1. House Braxton and her leadership has been deposed by both the Summer Pact leadership and the Grand Alliance leadership, and therefore her land can be agreed upon as in need of new leadership. As this is fairly agreed upon across the board, the question, then, is how the lands should be governed. At present, all three territories are under the jurisdiction of Summer Pact parties.
The Summer Pact, insofar, has wished to establish a continued rule over the territories until a suitable leader is ordained by God.
The Grand Alliance has called for the immediate release of the lands into local control, regardless of ordination.
This Treaty proposes the following compromise: a Summer Pact force (likely composed of troops from House Natt och Dag and House Mephisels) may retain jurisdiction over Pavile, and all Summer Pact forces in ex-Braxton territory is rebased here. Meanwhile, a Grand Alliance force (likely composed of troops from House Faulhammer and Housd de Toullies) may establish jurisdiction over Castle Braxton, and may govern the territory as they please, either directly or by local proxy leader. Grand Alliance forces would be allowed to occupy this territory. Any tax, agricultural, or industrial revenue would be split between each of the occupying Houses equally by this model.
Meanwhile, the central region of ex-Braxton lands, Erlingsworth, would be a demilitarized zone where neither organization had total control, and where neither would be allowed to move troops, or face penalization by other signatories of the Treaty. However, both organizations could collect revenue from the territory.
This order would be maintained across the region until a successor to House Braxton was ordained by God, in a manner agreeable to all signatories.
Both organizations would need to make compromises in order for this to be possible. The neutral diplomats who drafted this Treaty view the compromises as roughly equal.
The outcome of an investigation regarding the guilt of House Mephisels to the accusations levied by House de Toullies is irrelevant to this proposal, as the Braxtonian War was supported also by the Grand Alliance.

Point 2.House Mephisels has obviously requested their lands be returned to them after the invasion by the Grand Alliance forces, and negotiators in the Grand Alliance have, for the most part, agreed that this is fair.
By this Treaty, the clear outcome of this dispute is the return of Gealot and Crat-Ror to House Mephisels. The forces of the Grand Alliance that are in occupation of these lands, namely troops of Houses de Toullies and Arimathea, would return to Uplland, the nearest Grand Alliance-controlled province.
A clear compromise must be made here, but until an agreeable investigation can be made about the accusations levied by House de Toullies, Mephiselian sovereignty should be returned, albeit with some level of surveillance until innocence can be proven.
However, should House Mephisels be proven guilty by an investigation, then they will face the justice of the fellow signatories of the Treaty.
For the sake of peace however, at least for the time being, the drafters of the Treaty hope both Houses can agree to the conditions of this ceasefire so vital to the sustenance of order in the Kingdom until God's return.

Point 3. As to the invasion of House Atkyn's land by House Polud, seemingly single-handed and with neither declared support by the Grand Alliance nor a clear casus belli, the events that took place are of little sense to the draft party of this Treaty.
The Grand Alliance either needs to provide a reason for the invasion, expel House Polud and join a campaign for the liberation of the lands of House Atkyn, or apologize for what must have been a grave logistical error and restore full sovereignty to House Atkyn. Had the invasion been part of a war against the Summer Pact in retaliation against the alleged Mephiselian plot, a case could be made at least until an investigation is complete, but House Atkyn was an unaligned party with little political activity whatsoever.
The outcome of an investigation is irrelevant to this proposal, as the invasion of House Atkyn is completely unrelated to the politics of the War of 417.

Point 4. House de Toullies has agreed to pay some reparation to House Mephisels for the, at this point at least, unwarranted invasion and the destruction that occurred as a result, once a verdict can be reached by investigators.
The amount proposed by the Treaty is 20 EP, to be paid as 10 as a down payment and a gesture of faith in compromise for peace by House de Toullies or the Grand Alliance to House Mephisels, followed by 10 either way following the verdict of an investigation; meaning, House de Toullies would pay 10 more, or House Mephisels would return 20 to House de Toullies.
The sacrifice requested of the Grand Alliance by the treaty is a hefty one, but the ideals of brotherhood should compel them to comply. It is an act of goodwill that the Treaty requests of House de Toullies, and if Lucien has shown himself to be anything in the time since God's ascension, it is willing to act with goodwill.

Point 5. As to future conflict resolution between the Grand Alliance and the Summer Pact, the Treaty presents this proposal: neutral Houses that are active in international politics (specifically Houses Isthon, Taran, and Iskaakios, so far) can form a committee when necessary to provide neutrality and objectivity.
All three Houses should be established as observer states to each organization, meaning their delegations will be present at the meetings of both but they may not interfere with internal organization and decision making [added to social group but not allowed to post/comment/vote].
House Isthon is already an observer state of both groups, although they have not yet been [invited to social groups]. This solution could maintain a peace and unity across the Kingdom until the return of God, a condition that all surely agree with and which has proven itself to be impossible without bloodshed in a world with alliance blocs without neutral regulation.

On a direct note to end the Treaty with, we recognize the sacrifices and compromises asked of the two organizations are great, but we hope that both will be willing to at least consider this proposal for peace and compromise.

Lots of compromises, but anything for peace to return to the land. In our quest for unity, we have forgotten that life is above all what matters, and it must be protected if there are to be divisions. We hope that House de Toullies and House Mephisels especially consider the document.

If anyone has any particular objections to something in the Treaty, we can consider amending it after a discussion.

May peace, love, and faith in God to guide us until his return be with you all.

Lord Byrias the Quiet of Isthon,

I think that the Summer Pact and the Grand Alliance have come to an agreement already that will ensure peace in the land, although we thank you for your effort to promote peace.

Yours Sincerely,

Lady Nichola Taran, Lord of North Thuria and Protector of Stillhabor.

Rather to me it seems two hot-headed organizations going to a trial to come to a conclusion that won't solve much, with temporary solutions to lasting problems of balance of power. Think of the above treaty as a backup, just in case we find that they have trouble coming to a lasting peace; even if the resolution attempted at the trial passes without conflict, there may be conflict afterwards, and just in case there is any failure to find an easy compromise between the two then the treaty exists as a peaceful resolution.

In the name of peace, we are announcing that we will not be breaking our marriage ties with House Polud. We do not wish to ruin our children's marriage. We would also like to request marriages and trade pacts with both House Thustra and House Natt och Dag.

House Thustra agrees to the marriage, and also proposes a trade deal.

Yes, of course, I accept the trade deal and also offer one to House Natt och Dag.

Orders due in less than 24 hours. As always, after the deadline no edits or offensive military/espionage orders will be accepted.

House Koriate. as per discussion and agreement, officially agrees to cede control of Sanah to House Issakios.

In the name of peace, we are announcing that we will not be breaking our marriage ties with House Polud. We do not wish to ruin our children's marriage. We would also like to request marriages and trade pacts with both House Thustra and House Natt och Dag.

House Natt och Dag will have to oversee some practical details to make this possible when planning for next season, but we certainly agree to arranging a marriage and a trade deal with our newest friend and ally.

Orders are due in less than one hour. If you are late, you cannot take any offensive military or espionage actions.

Good thing no one should be on the offense eh... I hope I get my land back this turn...

Year 417 Of Our Lord, Summer
Fifteen months after The End

Grand Alliance Ambition Drags Entire Kingdom Into War
A tentative peace between the Summer Pact and the Grand Alliance was shattered nearly immediately as Faulhamer and Polud troops advanced into Summer Pact provinces. The Grand Alliance also continued its tradition of launching unannounced and unjustified invasions of neighbouring Houses, with House Polud once again trying to sweep up House Lamere, House Arimathea attacking the neutral House Isthon, and House Koriates taking the unconventional action of attacking its fellow member in the Grand Alliance, House Isaakios. With the exception of the Holy Church, every Great House in Heaven is now at war. Outside of direct bloodshed, the Grand Alliance also alienated its once member House Isaakios with trade embargoes, and House de Touilles, ruled over by the Lord Protector and Regent of Heaven, scammed House Lamere and House Isthon out of a veritable king’s ransom of gold, promising it would pay them back with interest before sicking its vassals on them. While all the above has further hurt the already bruised reputation of the Grand Alliance in the eyes of their own subjects as well as the rest of the Kingdom, the further desanctifying of holy matrimony by House Polud and House de Toullies as they attack married families has drawn the ire of nobles and clergy across Heaven.

Black Death Spreads in the North and South Amid War
Efforts to contain the Black Death in the North failed quickly as armies were dragged away from manning barricades and quarantines to fight in the war, while peasants only fled the disease and conflict ridden provinces in larger numbers, bringing the sickness with them. Spreading out from Stillharbour, the Black death has now become thoroughly embedded in the Bloodrock Plains, Northeast Thuria, Tsuk, Myriam Peak and Sanah, and from the war in Sanah, the plague has been carried along in the dying lungs of peasants fleeing to Koriates and Veniera. Northmen and women, both soldiers and civilians, have already died in the tens of thousands, neglected corpses piling high in the streets, black bile clogging the drains and ditches.

The disease has had a harder time spreading in the South, with the relative stability of the outbreak point containing the disease to Erlingsworth, though it is also growing more common in Pavile and Castle Braxton, the latter of which was site to a battle between Faulhamer and Mephs, Natt och Dag and Iskariota troops. A small number of the troops came down with the Black Breath during the campaign, and there is worry that the soldiers will carry, or infect a camp follower who will carry, the plague back to the House’s homelands.

Despite being centred between the outbreaks, the Holy Church has managed to avoid being overtaken by the disease, thanks to the Inquisition slaughtering and burning any refugee entering the Church provinces, or any civilian other man, woman or child who so much as sneezes.

The North
The Third Battle of Stillharbour, or the Battle of the Seven or Eight Armies, or the Absolute Confusion of the North Stillharbour
To get a picture of what happened in Stillharbour this summer, a few key background events need to be laid out. The first occurred further north, where a group of House Isaakios nobles were ambushed by brigands, murdering two of Lord Alexandros’ own cousins before being overwhelmed by guards. After a few rounds of torture, the brigands were revealed to be working on behalf of House Taran to weaken the Isaakios nobility. The second event was the True Church’s Patriarch Mathias receiving funding from House Polud, its current patron House, as well as House Taran, with whom the Patriarch had been expressing his distress regarding the Grand Alliance’s atrocities.

Now we need to follow each of the armies as they maneuver into the quagmire. Having received word of the ambush and confession, Lord Alexander Isaakios declared war on House Taran, and once he saw the Koriates House Guards pulling out of Sanah, as previously agreed, he began heading south into Stillharbour with his Heavenly Legion. The Koriates House Guard was not simply pulling out of Sanah though, it was swinging around north to sweep into Alexandroupolis. As the House Guard moved North, a newly formed Koriates army, the Winds of the North, moved south towards Sanah, and at the same time the Koriates Watch in Stillharbour began marching north to attempt a pincer move on the Isaakios force, thought to be garrisoning Sanah. The Taran Riders garrisoning the diseased and dying Stillharbour were hard at work building up fortifications as they watched the Koriates Watch march north, and with relief received word that the Thustran Sword of Lightning army was marching north to join them. To the west, in House Polud territory, the Polud Swellswords marched east towards Stillharbour, and were puzzled to find that Patriarch Mathias’ Legion of the Faith was also marching east ahead of them.

The first skirmishes broke out in northern Stillharbour when bewildered Isaakios advance parties found themselves being attacked by their counterparts in the Koriates Watch. The Koriates Watch was a much smaller force than the Heavenly Legion, so Lord Alexander pushed his forces on into the Koriates’ line. Taran forces in the area were completely taken by surprise, but took word back to Lord Peter and his Taran Riders. The declaration of war from Isaakios had been public, so he had been expecting an attack, but he was not expecting the Koriates to defend his lands.

Eager to relieve the his once-allies-come-new-allies, the Taran Riders were preparing to head north to join the fray when the Legion of the Faithful casually marche into Stillharbour, to the surprise of the Polud Swellswords invading the province directly behind them. Further confusion ensued when the Legion of the Faithful proceeded to start killing itself, regiments turning on one another in a bloody mess before splitting into two separate armies that moved to link up with the Taran/Thustran forces or the Polud army. Evidently Patriarch Mathias hadn’t informed all of his followers that he was taking sides with the wrong side in the war, and not all took kindly to this miscommunication.

As Swellswords and their new contingent of rebelled Faithful Legionnaires tried to push through the heavily fortified Taran - Thustran lines, the Isaakios Heavenly Legion was flanked by the Koriates Winds of the North. The hammer and anvil attack crushed whole regiments of Isaakios troopers, but the anvil portion of the maneuver, the Koriates Watch, where outnumbered and exhausted, and soon were routed even as the Heavenly Legion was ripped apart by the fresh Koriates army to the north. To the south, the Swellsword advance was halted and promptly kicked out of the province by the much larger Thustran and Taran armies. With the west secured, the Thurian allies looked north to the battle ripping apart the Stillharbour countryside. If House Polud was attacking Stillharbour, then that should mean the Grand Alliance was at still at war with the Summer Pact, though the Koriates army had been pulling out of Stillharbour. In any event, Lord Peter couldn’t have other Houses destroying House Taran land in unrelated wars, and so moved to push the squabbling armies out of the province. The Taran Riders and the Sword of Lightning smashed into the crumbling rear lines of the Heavenly Legion, pushing through it and into the shocked Koriates Winds of the North. In a few short hours the Heavenly Legion was destroyed, the survivors, Lord Alexandros himself among them, slipping through the ravaged countryside for home, and the Koriates army retreated to Sanah, savaged but still intact.

All Houses involved in the battle took heavy losses, and not only at their enemies’ hands, but also from the Black Breath which spread through the ranks as the battle had dragged on. As the dust settled, it was clear House Koriates had gained the most out of the chaos, as it came out of the season with Sanah in its hands, as well as Alexandroupolis, which the House Guards had quietly annexed while all eyes were on Stillharbour.

True Church Splinters, Religion Grows More Convoluted Tsuk, House Polud
Following the Patriarch Mathias’ betrayal of House Polud, the Legion of the Faithful splintered, resulting in the forming of the new United Church, lead by the self-styled Matriarch Patricia. While Mathias and the True Church believes that Heaven should unite peacefully in accordance with God’s Will, the United Church and Matriarch Patricia believe that God’s Kingdom needs to be united by any means necessary, as God will only return once Heaven is whole again. With no warning or justification, marines from House Arimathea and House Polud landed on the undefended Lamere Island, quickly bringing the frigid island under Polud banners. House Polud was denied the same kind of lightning victory as it had against House Atkyn, as the Hell’s Halberdiers found themselves up against a much larger force in the heavily fortified Davensport. Led by William, the newly legitimised Heir to House Polud, the Polud forces pushed hard into the province, but were unable to find purchase against the Lamere defenders, and after taking heavy losses had to retreat back to Noveria to avoid being encircled and destroyed by the newly formed cavalry of the Lamere Guard.

Nearly a thousand peasants were scattered in pieces and heaps throughout the ruined village, the remains utterly ravaged and torn to unrecognition. Huts and buildings were broken apart, their occupants dragged out from their homes before being disemboweled or dismembered. There’s no evidence who carried out the massacre, and more worryingly it appears the murders were carried out without use of regular weapons, with most wounds looking more like that of an animal attack.

Dreams of Wood and Bone Return to Lady Laminas as the Orchards Grow Kilmer, House of Koriates
After a season of being free from the dreams and visions, Lady Laminas has once more become assailed by the pictures and images in her sleep. Her chambers are full of paintings, on canvases when they could be brought up, or on the walls if they could not. Trees surround her bedchamber, twisted bone and flesh crushed in the dark branches and bark. Along with the return of her visions, the orchards around Lake Celestis have spread as the ring of bodies has grown. Thousands of now died on the shores of the lake, their bodies freezing into piles since guards have begun refusing to remove the corpses. The orchards of Kumar have also spread, seemingly rising up overnight in Kilmer. Many are starting to curse the orchards and the lake as their loved ones leave in the night to die on the frigid shores, yet still the ‘followers’ are leaving in droves. Local nobles across the House’s provinces have begun petitioning Duke Ludenard to stop the madness, as their mines and fields empty, plows left in the dirt and pick in the stone, their wielders starving to death in a maddened fervour.

Despite the disease being rare in Noveria, Lord Muncel showed signs on the first day of the third week of the second month of Summer. After only four days, servants were greeted in the morning by the sight of Lord Muncel dead in his bedchamber, his face emancipated and black bile staining the sheets. The death has rocked the House in this time of war, and rumours are spreading far and wide over the circumstances of his death. Was it an assassination? Holy judgement from God? Or simply bad luck? Lord Milo has taken over as Ruler of House Polud, with his only newly legitimised older brother William taking the heirdom. The circumstances of William’s legitimisation have already begun spreading tensions, as William’s loyalty to Milo is highly uncertain, and William’s control of the military only grows as his own legitimacy grows.

Arimathean Troops Occupy Oristhia Oristhia, House Arimathea
House Isthon had recently decoupled itself from the Summer Pact in hopes of avoiding war with the Grand Alliance, and even seemed to have secured a close relationship with House de Toullies, securing its independence as a neutral House. Just as things were seeming to come around though, a new enlarged Arimathean army invaded the mountainous Oristhia, acting on the intel that House Isthon had been plotting against Lord Protector Lucien. The mountains and solid fortifications made the assault up the slopes long and bloody, with entire regiments dying just for small ridges, but after nearly a month of slow and painful advances, the Arimathean Uplland Clansmen dislodged the Farmer's Brigade forcing them to flee to Sthulhein.

Following the betrayal of House Mephs and the unannounced invasion of House Atkyn, House Taran broke ties with the Grand Alliance out of disgust, ceasing the marriage between their family and House de Toullies. House Taran quickly sided with the Summer Pact, marrying into and signing trade pacts with House Thustra and House Natt och Dag. Though House Taran attempted to play a middle ground role between the two power blocs, and it became clear that attempts at peace were futile, and now House Taran is firmly aligned with the Summer Pact. The marriages have brought prestige to House Thustra and Natt och Dag, both families having had some slow work gaining legitimacy being smaller Houses outside of the action of the larger realm, while House Taran and House de Toullies have both taken hits to the respect their families hold as other nobles see the worth of the Great Houses’ promises.

The movement has grown in strength as word of the Black Breath’s spread reaches the island, and groups have begun openly criticising the House’s handling of the disease. The protests have grown increasingly frequent and violent, though so far guards have been able to dispel the mobs without too many casualties, but they warn that it seems as if nearly half of Toullies’ subjects have grown dissatisfied with their Lord’s methods of rule, and the protests could soon grow into riots if something is not done.

Southern Pact Clashes with Leodric’s Shieldmates in Massive Battles over Castle Braxton and Ostra harad Castle Braxton, House of Mephisels
The conquest of Castle Braxton by House Mephs was seen as a slight against House Faulhamer, who believe they had rights over Braxton territory after Braxton’s supposed planned attempt on Leodric’s life. With a massive army fielding over 15 heavy infantry regiment, a heavy trooper corp unseen anywhere else in Heaven, Leodric marched his armies out of Ironhold and down into the hills surrounding Castle Braxton. Lord Leodric was itching for a real battle. He had been forced to watch as the rest of the Kingdom descended into backstabbing and bloodshed, and all he could do was sit back and wait while his blood boiled. Now, with an unparalleled fighting force behind him, they were finally going to go take what was theirs, and only God himself would stop them. In parallel with his own attack, the newly formed Southern Hammer would strike at the supposedly undefended Ostra harad, its Natt och Dag lords up north in occupied Braxton land.

The Faulhamer army was expecting to face Mephs troops in Castle Braxton, and maybe Natt och Dag troops well if they were unlucky. When Leodric’s scouts reported that only Natt och Dag troops were present, and in a force roughly equal in numbers to his own, Leodric was both relieved and dissapointed. He had hoped to face the Mephisels rather than their allies, but at least the Eastern Hundred Regiment would fall easily beneath his thousands of heavy infantry. As the Shieldmates began their push into House Braxton, this seemed the case, though they were taking more losses than expected due to skirmishing raids and cavalry exploiting the slow heavy infantry. After a few days of laboriously pushing through minor battles and skirmishers, the Mephs’ 1st Army of Gealot arrived. The Shieldmates no longer found themselves on equal footing, but were now in fighting through rough terrain, and against a much larger opponent that had skilled defensive and cavalry focused commanders.

The Southern Hammer likewise ran into trouble. Namely, the Iskariotan Army was stationed at Ostra Harad’s formidable battlements, and in greater numbers than the Faulhamer infantry. Attacks against the great natural fortress were like smashing your head against a wall while getting shot with arrows from above. The Southern Hammer fought hard, and took a number of outlying forts and camps, but assaulting the main fortress proved impossible, and with crippling losses the army was forced to retreat back to Ironhold to dress their wounds.

Despite eventually pushing through and meeting the main infantry core of the Summer Pact defenders for a number of short battles, it became all too clear to Leodric that House Natt och Dag’s Ruler’s, Lady Birgitta’s, defensive mind, paired with the cavalry ability of House Mephs’ Lady Bela, Leodric was simply outmatched both tactically and numerically. Having suffered heavy casualties, he ordered his army to retreat, and they continued to be harassed by cavalry wings as they passed their dead that fell in the advance. A trail of bodies, both Summer Pact and Faulhamer, stretched a blanket of death from Ironhold to House Braxton, a sickly scene of battle and bloodshed on a scale unseen in Heaven for centuries.

Mephs Fleet Sunk Off Crat-Ror Crat-Ror, House de Toullies
Under orders to dock at Gealot, assuming it was to be handed over to House Mephs, the 1st Fleet of Mephisels made contact with the Toullies fleet near Crat-Ror. The Rugir, four times as large as the Mephs fleet, quickly charged the 1st Fleet, and after a short engagement sunk it with no losses. This marked the only direct conflict between House Mephs and House de Toullies during the summer, though it would not likely be the last blood to be shed between the two Houses before the war would end.

Peasants Return to Pavile Fields Pavile, House of Mephisels
With the Holy Church torturing and purging the commoners seemingly at random, House Isthon being invaded by Arimathean soldiers, Toullies armies in the West and the South becoming engulfed in war, Braxton pleasants that previously fled the Mephs-Braxton war have returned to Pavile as they have nowhere else to flee. Their allegiance to House Braxton faded rapidly in the face of the confused war raging across the continent, and now they simply wish to return to their earthly toils.

Explosion Rips Through Erlingsworth Smithing Quarter Erlingsworth, House Natt och Dag
One early morning, before the work day truly started, a massive explosion flattened nearly the entire main smithing quarter in Erlingsworth largest city. While less than a hundred were killed or injured, dozens of workshops and smithies lie in smoking ruins. What could have caused such an event is beyond all experts, with explanations and accusations ranging from black magic, meteors and volcanoes to God’s wrath, and Holy Church or Grand Alliance saboteurs.

Stranger Draws Crowds, Brings Riches, Angers Faithful Haliginis, House Faulhamer
The Stranger was allowed more or less free reign in Haliginis, though he was accompanied by a host of guards and priests at all times. Over the season, the Stranger spent most of his time either wandering around, inspecting and wondering over everything he saw, or studying with the priests. He picked up the common longue of Heaven surprisingly quickly when he put his mind to it, though his odd sing-songy foreign language eluded the priests, though some blame the Stranger for intentionally misleading them rather than accept their own ignorance. Stranger (who accepted the title as his own name), revealed that he was from a land to the south and west, across the vast seas, filled with lush jungles lived in by dangerous beasts, high mountains reaching the clouds, wide plains and deserts that reach the ends of the earth, and peoples of all shapes and colours. He names the land Vigh-Pir. He claims to have been a member of an exploration mission before his ship was wrecked in a storm and washed onto the shores of Heaven. Many priests and faithful have come to resent Stranger, seeing him as a spreader of lies, and his dark skin, unnatural height and unfathomable tongue are no doubt signs of him being nothing more than a demon. Even more damning, every midnight Stranger awakes to pray to a snake head talisman he has strung around his neck. The clergy would have already raised a mob to lynch him if it wasn’t for Lord Faulhamer’s order, and for the fact that Stranger has been incredibly helpful in regards to the provinces agriculture, as he was evidently what he calls a ‘botanist’ back in his own lands. Farms in Haliginis have been vastly improved thanks to his expertise, and he says he would be glad to to the same for Faulhamer’s other provinces, if the Lord so wishes.

Cult of the Jackal Grows in Nalo Nalo, House Iskariota
A steadily growing number of peasants in Nalo are spreading rumours and tales of ‘the Jackal’, a beast that represents the dying of Heaven. Crude etchings of the beast’s laughing maw have been found throughout villages, along with sacrificed rabbits and goats, their throats seemingly torn out by ragged bites. Mob lynchings have already begun to take place as local Faithful round up and murder those they suspect of belonging to the cult, often claiming the cultists had sacrificed children or virgins along with the animals, though no credible reports of human sacrifice. A particular old man is being hunted for, said to have begun spreading word of the Jackal, but so far there has been no sight of him. Lord Iskariota is now having to weigh the importance of handeling the cult, with the war now raging across the Kingdom.

Player Notes
@Seon - When building new army/navy groups, you have to pay the upkeep of the group upfont. In this case, creating the Winds of the North costed 15ep. You had enough to pay off the debt immediately through conquest, so no problem.
@Gurra09 - When building units, including ships, you must pay both IC and EP equal to the maintenance cost. For your 3 ships, it costed 15EP and 15IC. You had the funds, so no problem.

Rule Changes
- Not really a full on rule change, but more of a clarification: You can spend more than your income in EP, causing your EP Bank to go negative. This represents debt, which must be paid off at the start of next turn. If your EP Income + Bank stat is negative, you must immediately pay that off at the start of the turn (before any military actions or purchases) or you will lose LG. I will update the rules when time permits.

General
Whew, lots of stuff going on. As always, check the stats/map for mistakes then let me know. I’ll get around to fixing things as soon as I can. Also, thanks to everyone for getting orders in quickly. I’m going to be leaving for a few weeks near the end of next month, so I’d like to hasten things a bit and maybe get to a conclusion of some sort before then. Therefore, I’m setting the order due date on Saturday, July 30th. It’s not a lot of time, and if needed I can make extensions, but the sooner we get this rolling the better chance of actually seeing a The End update we get.

*evil laughter intensifies*

Nice update Decamper :)

2 stat issues: The Rugir should have a Medium ship and it seems you did not raise the industry in any of my island provinces.

To House Meph and House Taran
From House Koriates

Peace? There is no peace. Just war until you all bend the knees to the rightful lord of the realm.

relations are a little weird. If Koriates Embargoed me I assume we don't have a trade deal? Or does it not cancel it?

Good update... Things shaking up nicely
