Help!!! Game does not get back Init steps

I've updated my graphis (ATI issue) and sound card drivers; I've removed and re-installed the game; Direct-X 9 is installed. Still, the game never gets pass the init dialigs -- it gets to Init Engine and then disappears altogether -- any help here would be appreciated.

I wish I could help you here. Have you called tech support in England? They have live people who will check out your configuration for you.

I will probably have to call them again, as my game will only play up to the halfway point without crashing. I'm getting pretty good on the up front part, but haven't a clue as to the rest of the game, as I can never get there.

Tanx, John! Yes, I have called tech support several times; it seems they tell me something new to try each time; it is crashing differently now than before -- will call them again... I guess

Have you done the unpak fix? (See Fix it list thread, items 8 and 9). Then clear cache, and run in full screen mode (which is the default unless you changed it in the civilization.ini file.
