I was wondering if the new monopoly game mode could have benefits for civs that historycally had one on certain products.

Some examples could be (i think just one per civ):

- China > Silk/porcelain/Incense
- Spain > Silver/Cocoa/olives
- France > Truffles
- Maya/Aztecs > cocoa
- Middle eastern (Persia?) > oil/Incense/ Citrus
- Ducht/Indonesia/Portugal (wink wink!) > Spices
- England > Tea
- Ethiopia > Coffee
- South Africa (Zulu) > Diamonds
- Phoenicia/Bizantines > dye
- Japanese > Whales/Citrus
- Norwegian > Whales
- Dutch > Spices
- Greek/Romans > Marble/olives
- Egypt > Wine
- Native americans civs > Tobacco
- Maori > Jade/Pearls
- Indonesia > Pearls/ Citrus
- Russia/Mongolia/Cree/Mapuche > Furs
- Gran Colombia/Vietnam > Coffee

Will some of the civs famous for that have a certain bonus to them? what do you think?

England > Tea
Ethiopia> Coffee
South Africa (Zulu) > Diamonds
Cree > Furs

Indonesia-Spices
China-Silk

Even if this idea is not in the game, it will be a fun roleplaying challenge.

Some other possibilities:

Vietnam - huge in Coffee production after the French introduced coffee there
Japan - famous for their Citrus (the unshu mikan) in pre-modern East Asia
Russia/Mongolia - dominant Fur producers when you couldn't get American furs
Maori/Maya/China - three major civilizations that value Jade
Greek/Romans - their diet was heavily centered around Olive (olive oil)
Mali - dominant Salt producer and trader
All Native North American Civs - don't forget where was Tobacco originated
Egypt - the originator of Wine
French - the biggest producer of Truffles
Indonesia - one of the traditional producer of Pearl
Spain - has the oldest developed Sliver mining industry

This doesn't make much sense to me.

Imo it sounds unappealing to have Civ-specific bonuses for controlling specific luxuries.

But how would you even go about implementing it? Luxuries spawn in the game world independently of Civs.

That is the entertaining part; it could be a tiny % bonus for the historic monopolizer.

For example, Spain could get the standard bonus for silver (every civ gets the same) plus a 5%gold, or china 5% culture for silk, England an extra % on science for tea, and so on.

This way you are incentivize to go collect this specific resources, to the point to declare war for it.
English Civ going to war with the civ that spawned close to the Tea resource? Seems legit to me and fun! (After all, it was this way that a lot of civs ended up with their respective monopolies).

Hell, Citrus for Indonesia as well. Guess their ability in Civ 5 was well-deserved.

But the end result would be that Civs who happen to be lucky enough for their resource to appear in the game world would have an advantage over all other Civs.
Yes, but I don't think it would be a game changer. Right now they are already civs that have bonuses tied to their spawn location and other that do not, it is a little unfair but I do not think it would broke the game.

Maybe if this happend, an emergency could be activated (as in real life, like when states force Monopolistic Enterprises to split out)
