History Questions Not Worth Their Own Thread VI

Well in order to have any standing at all, someone would have to prove that they had been damaged by the film in a meaningful way. I don't see anyone who that could apply to.

Also, events that happened a few thousand years ago probably count as public domain anyway.

Also, may I ask--r16 ... you have such strong opinions about Turkey and its nationalism, religions, and different ethnic groups..why is this? I promise no offense is intended, if it seems offensive to ask this...I'm sure there's a completely valid reason, just curious what that reason is.

because ı am Turkish and because all the "reforms" of the Islamists are actually weakening the fabric of the society to such a large extent there will be so large disturbances that the only shock that can stop that will be something else .

which , with me being some Starfleet Admiral with an assured future , will mean like all the people of the future will be like remembering my name with so much disdain . As the joke goes . ı have already given up the "hope" to stop the WW3 for a good rep ...

it won't , you will lose your air defences real quick .

^Afaik he does not mention a war between Greece and Turkey, but some other forces (probably Russian). But at any rate i alluded to that just as a curious 18th century 'prophecy', and of course so as to better your mood with images of red trees and thirds :D

(joking, i sincerely wish you stay safe, and others too).

I don't know, I'd say the film made Iran look a pretty interesting place. Orcs ought to be a tourist attraction by anyone's standards.

By no time, the secular state of Iran will rack in cash from the "hero tourism", where noble heroes from different countries will hunt for fun orcs.

It's a fantasy safari, for your whole family!

Afaik Persia used to be a major archaeology-related tourist destination for Americans, prior to the creation of the state of Israel. Lovecraft also pointed that out in some of his letters.

I just saw 300: Rise of an Empire. Aside from being a terrible movie, could they conceivably be sued for saying "The events depicted in this movie are fictitious. Any similarity to any person living or dead is merely coincidental" in the credits? Perhaps by Greece? After all, the setting of the film was certainly based on real life places.

I'm not going to speak for the law everywhere in the world, but in the US? No. They can't be sued. Lawsuits aren't things that anyone can file simply because they want to file them. There has to be a party injured who has a legal claim. Neither is true here.

Sure, you could file a suit for anything. It would immediately get thrown out and you would be paying costs and possibly ifned or charged for frivolous lawsuits. But you can sue them.

I don't know if it did... but someone must think so! There's a large dwarf statue that greets people leaving the international terminal of Auckland Airport.

Large dwarf statue?

I lived in the middle of the South Island for a short while after the films were shot but before the first one was released, and I seem to remember they were already gearing up for the anticipated tourism boom. Although it wasn't always easy to tell the difference between an Uruk-hai and an ordinary rugby player.

Same goes for me too.

Also, may I ask--r16 and haroon, you have such strong opinions about Turkey and its nationalism, religions, and different ethnic groups..why is this? I promise no offense is intended, if it seems offensive to ask this...I'm sure there's a completely valid reason, just curious what that reason is.

Don't worry I will not get offence with an honest question ;) well because as someone who consider myself as an internationalist I don't even know if it is a correct terms because I can't describe myself with any other term beside this. I think imposing one super-culture to other sub culture is a cultural oppression.

I cannot comprehend the execution of peoples who refuse to dress up in the way of super-culture fashion way to dress up as sanity, I think that is totally insane. Don't want to sound like a jerk here, to bring up this issue after I not replying r16 reply because of keep delaying and laziness, but as you ask me I answer it honestly.

Also to remove the freedom of other language to appreciate their heritage, as someone who speak more than 5 language include others tribal language from south east asia I cannot comprehend such level of intolerance. And I don't believe the New Turkish is anyway near Islamist, if you update and check up the Islamist position regarding this (which one define it as Islamic radical groups), ISIS already declare Erdogan government as apostasy with continuation of arresting Al Qaeda members, with his opinion regarding war in Afghanistan, and regarding Turkish law system will be forever secular without negotiation.

The Saadet party, the one who claim to be the authentic Islamic party, criticize many un-Islamic statement of Erdogan and AK party, include his position regarding secular law and many other, also the famous Gulen Islamic jamaah whom the secularist Turk consider them to be Islamist also oppose to Erdogan because he is not Islamist enough even they consider him as a total secularist.

What I hope is simple, that peoples whether they are Muslims or non Muslims, Turks or Kurds, Armenian or Greek, able to get their freedom to practice their religion and tradition and get protected. And Turkey is far from Islamist, most of them here are sufi, and the fact the old Turkish government much more similar with the Saudi arabia that they claim to be hate. As both follow blindly western outlook but lost its value, just look how Saudi Arabia start to demolishing historical places in Makkah to build fancy hotel and modern building, also look at the modern Turkish they are so obsess to wear the western custom, but both doesn't really live or understand western value. And most interestingly, in whole over the world, there are only two country which tariqah is forbidden, the first is the old republic of Turkey, the second is Saudi Arabia. So here the secularist and the islamist have some sort of common traits, without they even notice.

And I really care less about race or ethnicity. I don't want to feed my vanity.

Sure, I oversimplified slightly. You can technically file anything, but you'd lose. And if you don't have a belief that it's well-grounded in fact or warranted by existing law of a good faith belief in the extension of existing law, you'll likely receive sanctions of some sort against you.

Don't worry I will not get offence with an honest question ;)

A lot of them were rugby players.
