History Rewritten (Original Thread)

1) For Byzantines, you could add Nicodemus Phocas or Basil II.

I've reserved a 3rd leader slot for Byzantium. There is a very nice leaderhead that could be used as Basil II but there's apparently a new Theodora leaderhead being made by one of the best LH makers and I want to see how that turns out first.

2) What about this ?

Davane's Mod has a particular method of work for all these things...

I've bookmarked that thread and I'll have a good look through once 0.5 is underway.

Update on 0.4:

I just need to finish a couple citylists and then do a few final tests for crashes. Should be all set for upload this weekend :)

One word : nice ;)

Wunderbar!

What are finally the new stuff ? :)

In 0.4 of course...

For 0.5, I have an idea for a new Civic Tree.

Government
Spoiler :
Government could be renamed to Decision Making, and would have the following options:

Anarchist (Default)

Absolute Monarchy (Gives 4 happiness in capital; low upkeep )

Direct Democracy ((Like what Athens Had) Gives +1 happiness in all cities; hamlets, cottages, towns, etc. give +1 hammer; undecided upkeep)

Representative/Indirect Democracy (Gives +1 happiness in all cities; +25% hammers in capital; medium upkeep)

Aristocracy (+X% commerce in all cities, +2 happiness in capital; medium-high upkeep)

Maybe more.

Legal
Spoiler :
Legal would have pretty much the same concept.

Barbarism (Default)

Religious Trial (Benefits only work with state religion; +1 happiness in all cities with state religion; another undecided benefit; low-medium upkeep)

Magistratorial (Or another word for a local "judge"; +X% production in all cities or courthouse provides X production; low-medium-high upkeep, depending on bonuses)

Leader Ruling (Or something to the extent that the person(s) in government are the judges; +X xp from palace, forbidden palace, versailles; something more; undecided upkeep)

Peoples' Ruling (A jury decides - much like most of today's legal systems; undecided benefits; undecided upkeep.

Maybe more slots.

Labor
Spoiler :
Labor would remain pretty much the same.

Tribalism (Default)

Slavery (Exact same; medium upkeep)

Serfdom (+50% worker speed, +1 commerce from farms; low upkeep)

Caste System (Unlimited of any specialist; medium upkeep.

Emancipation (I am not sure. The standard one is really weak)

Maybe more options

Economical
Spoiler :
Definitely some earlier options.

Decentralized (Default)

Barter (+1 commerce from farms, pastures, lumbermills, mines, and anything that produces tradable goods; low-medium upkeep)

Sharing (+1 happiness from resources like copper/iron/the three crops/seafood/domesticated animals/huntable animals/anything that Joe would need; low-medium upkeep, maybe high upkeep)

Mercantilism (+1 specialist per city; no outside trade; medium upkeep)

Government Distribution (Like state property; no maintenance cost from number of cities; no-low upkeep

Maybe more options

Religion
Spoiler :

Unorganized Religion (Standard)

Governmental Religion (Like Organized Religion; +20-40% commerce per city; low-high upkeep, depending on impact on game)

Strict Religion (Like Theocracy; no spread of non-state religion; +X% production from religious buildings; medium-high upkeep)

Pacifism (+1 gold/military unit cost; longer golden ages if moddable; 100% great person rate; +X% war weariness if longer golden ages not an option; no upkeep)

Free Religion (+1 happiness from all religions; no state religion; no upkeep)

Maybe more options

That took a while...

Some good ideas there. I won't be looking at civics in 0.5 though sorry; 0.5 is going to mostly be about finishing and polishing everything already added. I will definitely be looking at civics in a future version though.

Btw, upload has started, should be done in a few hours.

0.4 is ready for download! Hopefully it takes more than a day for Lachlan to find a crash this time! Enjoy :)

Downloading... ;)

It looks like you or your unarchiving application have renamed the mod folder. It should be "History Rewritten" not "History Rewritten 0.4". This will cause a new .ini file to be created for the mod which will have modular loading off by default. This is what is causing the messages. Steps to fix:

- Rename folder back to "History Rewritten"
- Keep the file History Rewritten.ini that's inside it
- Delete any other .ini file in the same location

Working! Loading time hasn't really shrunk to nothing but appears to be slightly reduced. There should be some application that lets you customize your game before it starts to load, so it doesn't load all the superflous things that aren't needed in your game. In the custom game menu, the sorted-by-geography feature is making things easier. And what's really impressing me is the choices you made with the unit art, some entirely new to me. I'll definitely follow, to what this mod might be growing.

I will continue my current game 0.4 : Biggest Earth = :)

Is not a "bad" map, just more "hard" to play ;)

yay! downloading now. I'll check it on Windows too since I have it set up now.

FYI it would appear playing multiplayer with the mod across windows/PC causes OOS errors in new games as well. It is possible that I goofed up with getting everyone the right fixes so I'll try it out with a fresh copy (if it loads) and get back to you.

Also I managed to make 0.3 more stable...though I'm not sure what of the things I did fixed it. Audio seems most likely though since I used the .ini file option to disable audio instead of muting. I'll try 0.4 with audio on and see what happens :)

There won't be any major reduction in load time until I can pack the artfiles into an .FPK. AlanH might have time this month to see if he can add packing functionality to his Macapaka tool. If he's too busy though I was recently given an old Windows XP laptop that I might be able to use to pack the artfiles for 0.5 or 1.0.

I'm also going to spend a lot of time in 0.5 going through all the unit art and removing superfluous textures. Seems a lot of unit makers are a quite lazy in this regard - I've only just started the process and already I've shaved over 10 MB off the
mod size! I didn't want to do this in 0.4 because of the potential to break things before release, but now I have the time to get it right. 0.5 will be all about optimization and polishing, and hopefully I can improve load time and general responsiveness as a result.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the unit art, I've spend many hours searching through mods and unit collections for the best I can find.

Hopefully with everyone running 0.4 that will solve the OOS errors. I've made a number of fixes to audio in 0.4, most notably I added all the missing religion and missionary sounds. Hopefully that should see an improvement for you.

Several problems:

Elizabeth, you are not a prince. You are a queen.

Elizabeth, I am your BFF yet you won't give me your map of Great Britain.

Leonidas... You are just weird.

Guy with weird name: You're a great guy to talk to. Very intelligent conversations.

And other than that, there is a small issue with the massive new Earth Map. Budapest is food-poor until Biology (+1 from farms). Also, the Hungarian starting tile is just 1 tile NE of a perfect spot - far more resources and less mountains. The spot they spawn on right now has too many mountains.
