History Rewritten (Original Thread)

Problem with the massive Eurasia Map: Too many resources in some parts, too few in others. Some terrains are too monotonous. (North of the Himalayas, there is a massive desert followed by a massive ring of plains and then a massive ring of hilly, forested grasslands.

Too many resource clumps: 5 iron in Iberia? 5 wine in France? 10000000 oil in the Middle East? Really?

I don't make the maps. Mapmaking is not something I know much about or am particularly interested in; I very rarely play on them myself as I much prefer random maps. I've included them by request as I know they are popular with others but other than assigning and adjusting starting coordinates I'm just putting them in as they are. You're best to talk to the author of the map in question.

Here is a link to the mod that I got all these maps from, it has a list of all the authors and map threads.

Problem was corrected, thanks !

If someone posts an image of the maps I can check for resources, Done this for Windows Mods, (eventually I will get Mac Civ IV too)

If you are good on making maps : what about an Imperialism map type like this shipped in Civ 3, with preferably 18 Civs at start ?
:)

No, I meant resource checking to make sure you have all your resources in place, like gems in Afghanistan and India (Lapis Lazuli and Diamonds/Sapphires respectively)

though, if you tell me what standard map size, the resources to be placed and the year you want it to be based on I probably can do it

A few problems.

Religious Tumult, and a woman who lives beside a red dot.

A few problems.

Religious Tumult, and a woman who lives beside a red dot.

Thanks for these reports.

- Pic #1 was an easy fix
- Pic #2 and 4 is already fixed for 0.5 and there is a file in post #240 that you can download to fix all the religion/corporation/resource icon problems.
- Pic #3 I'll get onto

Xyth, a couple of gameplay issues:

1. Maybe I or my wife are just not skilled enough to take advantage of it but have you played Elizabeth? her trait combo sounds great, but in practice seems to lead to stagnant underdeveloped cities and (ironically) a terrible economy.... We tend to use blocking a lot (no open borders) which may be causing that but in any case I dunno if you've looked into it at all but it seems to slow the game down

2. The Asatru sound had us laughing for a while but...in a LAN game when Asatru spreads all the time and it keeps shouting WOOOODEEEN across multiple computers...loudly. The new religion sounds are fun in short....but to me they seem disproportionally loud... is there a way to tweak that so we don't have to turn the whole game down?

Otherwise its good fun and hasn't been crashing too much. One CTD for me and then one CTD that brought the whole game down but I don't have a save before hand or a crash report so I can't help much there :(

I've not played Elizabeth yet but I've played other Enterprising leaders. To take best advantage of the Enterprising trait you need lots of contact with foreign cities especially overseas ones. I imagine your closed borders policy is restricting this considerably. Also, the trait really doesn't start to truly heat up until the age of sail. Seek out the biggest foreign cities and get them into your trade network, preferably before anyone else does.

Progressive trait requires good management of specialists, something that I'm not particularly good at to be honest.

Let me know how it goes though, traits are really hard to balance and the more feedback I get the better I can balance them. Has anyone else got any thoughts/experience with the Enterprising or Progressive traits?

I've noticed this too, I'll see what I can do.

Glad to hear it's being more stable for you. I've done a ton of optimizing for 0.5, over 100MB of unneeded textures pruned or rescaled so far. Fingers crossed, there should be some big improvement in load time too.

I just have an idea to have the pleasure to have impossibility for cities to be razed and the pleasure to raze cities at once...

We could have the choice "Destroy all buildings in this city but keep this city with level one of population", in others words : "Destroy all but keeping the location of this city...

I have took by example the case of Carthage after the last punic war, the city was razed but immediately rebuilt, i believe ?

When I try to load the mod, it says "Not Responding". What should I do? I can't access the .ini file, no app to open it.

p.s. is there a place I am supposed to post a hello topic?

EDIT: Nevermind, just had to let it sit a while, Epic mod! Really love the Greeks, Alex looks so cool!

I've downloaded and unzipped the file. I've got it in \Civilization IV Gold\Beyond the Sword\Mods.

But if I go to "Beyond the Sword" content from within the game, it's not showing up. All of the "original" content in there is displaying, but I don't see "History Rewritten".

What's the point of that? If it's a size 10 city, why would you bring it down to one and demolish all of its buildings?

In real History, cities have often be razed partially or completely in different wars...
But often new cities have been rebuilt on the locations of previous ones...

Dans la vraie Histoire, les villes ont souvent été rasées partiellement ou complètement dans différentes guerres...
Mais souvent les nouvelles villes ont souvent été reconstruites sur les emplacements des villes précédentes...

But i abandon this idea after all...
Mais j'abandonne cette idée après tout...

Too difficult to implement that, i agree ;)

I finished my first game tonight and all seems fairly balanced. Great mod. I'm looking forward for a future era...

Finally! A mod that windows users have to fix!!! Hahahah victory for macs!
