The Game :
Setting :

The year is 2050, Earth is over-populated and resorces are begining to run low. This lack of space and resources has diven the nations of Earth in to many wars and conflicts, but in the late 2040's scientist discoved a new propulsion system making solar colonization feasable. This great breakthrough in technoligy has allowed humanity to expand beyond the 'Green Planet' and as a result the nations of Earth are preparing to expand accross the solar system. A new age of colonization has arrived.

At the start of the game there are no colonies and all players must start on Earth, however as the game progresses colonies can break away from their owner and form a new state which is not based on Earth. Turns will last 1/2 an Earth year and I should be able to update every 4-6 days but breaking news will be reported more often.

Orders :
Orders should be PMed to me, no orders will be accepted in the thread. However you may post them for information and diplomacy can be done in the thread.

Stories :
No essential however stories will be rewarded with good random events.

If you see any errors or holes in the rules please tell me.

Planetry Info :
Layout :
Name (Size)
Type : ---
Atmosphere : ---
Radiation : ---
Intrests : ---

Size :

How many regions the planet is divided in to, each region can support one colony.

Type :
Planets and moons have type, each one giving different hazards. It is possible to change the type by terraforming the planet, however this is expensive and time-consuming.

Atmosphere :

An indication of the atmosphere, there are four levels Ideal (green), Unsutable (yellow), Dangerous (red) and None (brown). Planets with dangerous atmospheres require specialist troops to operate on the surface.

Radiation :
An indiaction of the strength of radiation on the surface, High or Extreme radiation requires specialist troops to operate in.

Intrests :
Who cotrols parts of the planet and how much (This will also contain other information such as colonies and troops). This is shown in the boxes on the game map.

All planets and moons follow this template except Earth which has no regions and wars may take place on Earth (not sure how yet).

Asteriod Belt :
The only region of space which is naturaly unsafe, units can be lost when passing through the asteriod belt.

Colonies :
Colonies cost 3 econ to build and the time taken depends on the distance and how dangerous the place is (Info shown in projects). There are 3 levels of Colonies, each has more benefits than the last, it costs 2 econ to upgrade to a base and 4 econ to upgrade to a city.
Outpost : The basic colony - has no benefits
Base : Produces 1 econ every 2 turns
City : Produces 1 econ every turn

Spacestation :

Built in orbit around a planet/moon, these allow ships to refeul giving them 50% extra range if the ship launches from the planet/moon it orbits. To place a Spacestation in orbit requires 1 econ.

Nations :

Governments :

Communism : Production Increace (20% more when number 5 or more)
Despotism : Cheaper Units (33% cheaper when cost 3 or over)
Monarchy : Improved Economy (20% extra income when income 5 or more)
Republic : Better Economy (Less Bad Events)
Theocracy : Better Stability (Less Bad Events)

Capital :
The location the nation's capital and the planet/moon it is is is written in the brackets.

Intrests :
Where the nation has colonies and how many.

Trade:

The total set up costs for trade routes are as follows, however the cost divide does not have to be half and half, cost are worked out by distance between capitals. Trade routes add 1 econ every 3 turns.
Same Planet/Moon : 4 econ
Same Planetry system : 6 econ
All Other Routes : 8 econ

Economy :
Driven by actions of players i.e. expanding and improving colonies may increase Economy while if the the nation loses an important region their economy will suffer. Econs not used will be stored (a maximum of 15 can be stored at any one time, total shown on right of brackets). Colonies also add 1 econ every 1 or 2 turns. Total income for turn shown in the left half of the of brackets.

Levels :
Booming (6 econ per turn)
Strong (5 econ per turn)
Good (4 econ per turn)
Poor (3 econ per turn)
Recesion (2 econ per turn)
Depresion (1 econ per turn)

Stability :
Similar to Economy, it is affected by actions of player.

Levels :
Execelent
Good
Average
Poor
Revolutionary

Econs can be used to try and improve Economy and Stability however this method may result in the opposite effect.

Research, Techs and Projects :
Techs work like in other NESs, Techs that have been researched (except Units) go in the Techs sections while those currently being researched go under Research. Projects work like in other NESs too.

Template :
Nmbers of Units, economy and stabilty can vary depending on type of nation.

Units :
There are two types of Units, Fleet and Army. Your Fleet is your spaceships and your Army is the troops who fight. Units have types which give an idication of what role they play in your military. All units have a basic template :
Name (Type (A/D/M(ET)*/C** - Cost & Number)) (Nations)
A = Attack
D = Defense
M(ET) = Movement(Engine Type^)
C = Transport Capacity
* only applies for fleets
* only applies to transports
^ affects agility and movement

Designs :
Army :
Infantry (Light Planetry Infantry (1/1 - 1e for 200)) (ALL)
Fidei (Light Planetry Infantry (2/1 - 1e for 200)) (UISM)
Marine (Light Space Infantry (1/1 - 1e for 20)) (ALL)
ODST (Heavy Planetry Infantry (3/2 - 2e for 30)) (USA)
Warthog (Buggy (2/2 - 2e for 50)) (China)
Fleet :
Shuttle (Small Transport (0/0/2(R)/100 - 1e for 2) (ALL)
Buran-2 (Small Transport (0/0/2(R)/150 - 1e for 2) (Russia)
1077 Jumbo Shuttle (Medium Transport (0/0/2(R)/300 - 1e for 1) (AST&D)

Engines :
Rockets (R) (Slow Speed, Average Agility, Cheap) (ALL)
Improved Rockets (IR) (Medium Speed, Average Agility, Cheap) (Canada)

Engines :
Rockets (R) (Slow Speed, Average Agility, Cheap) (ALL)

Earth Military :
An indication of how strong the nation military on Earth is, the stronger it is the more likely it is to win a war on Earth should it happen. It costs 2 econ to upgrade the military and it will only drop if there is a war.

Very Strong

awesome, awesome, awesome :D

I dropped a PM in your PM box, with a question, and a suggestion in your NES- I'll take this time to extend it, with a request that bot a world map that i suggested, and a solar map have a place somwhere up here on the main page

A Proposal to all nations of the World

In this era of over-population, and dare I say it, Earth-resource depletion, it has becoem appernt to the Unites States that a plan is needed, and action taken.

The United States therefore, with this in mind, proposes the following- the combined effort to terra-form the Planet Mars

This would be a monumental undertaking, requiring the combined effort of everynation who would have a colonial stake on the planets surface- but the rewards, obviouslly, woudl be huge- a new green, lucious planet for not only our citizens, but humanity to call home- such a place would be a major boon to relive Earth population stress, and easy, mass food production- as well as the rich mineral of the planets surface, and abundent form sof water, currentlly frozen about the planet.

With time and effort, the Planet named after the God of war could become not an omius sight in the sky, but a lucsious, ocean and green covered second hoem for humanity.

(OOC: Hey! I was planning to do this last night, great minds must think alike ;) )

China agrees to this proposal, let us usher in a new age of prosperity. Far too long have we depleted the resources of earth, and now we are faced with global conflict over resources such as water, and oil.

Such technologies needed to terraform the red planet will be huge, and such resources needed will also be huge. China asks all other nations to join the United States of America, and The Peoples Republic of China, to join in the project.

But,

China will only accept this on one condition, that land is equally distributed amongst the nations of the world.

The Unites States feels that the land division of mars be left to whom can muster the resources to form colonie son the planet- liekwise, only nations whom have a claim on the planet will be madated to aide in the terraforiming of it- since no nation 9yet) has any colonies on marse, it is, for now, the worlds buisness to decide on the terraformation matter.

OOC: Will there be a possibility of wars on Earth? Just wondering. In that case, I think you should also post a world map, like the one Xen used on the other thread.

Can we design our own units? Does it cost any money to create new designs?

Story:

By Allah!

- And was a glorious act and a history-changing decision!
- And it was ordered by the Great Caliph Abdullah ibn-Fashid,
- To spread the glory of Allah and the true faith of Islam,
- Into the black depths of space and the planets and moons yet unexplored,
- That the Islamic Space Program be started, and wise scientists be called to it,
- To work out the process of creating Maghribian colonies in the unknown space.
- And so it was declared, that to prevent military incidents in space,
- That the United Islamic States of Maghrib leave the 30-year cultural isolation,
- That the diplomatic neutrality be abandoned as well,
- And that its embassies be rebuilt in the capitals of spacefaring powers,
- The Peoples of the Book in USA, EU and Russia,
- And the tolerable atheists in People's Republic of China.

We officially abandon our 30-year policy of cultural isolation and diplomatic neutrality, and will reestablish embassies in your nations.

We realize that the cultural isolation was never quite working anyway.

The revoction of diplomatic neutrality was done to avert incidents in space that could happen if there are no real diplomatic relations between nations.

Are you sure that this terraforming operation is possible as of now? The scientific community seems to be divided on this one. I do hope and believe that it is, theoretically, possible, but is it possible practically?

But if it is, then you can count on our assistance.

Wars on Earth would side track from the solar wars so no units were made for it but they can happen(not sure how though, i might add a new stat (Earth military)) also units are designed through techs.

The Terra formation of mars is possible, it is even possible utlizing 50 year old technology- this website, on the world wide Omni-net, details very effectivlly how using even said 50 year old tech, it could be done- http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~mfogg/zubrin.htm

basically, it comes down to two different types of terraformation-

Greenhouse Mars- effectivlly, this is th emost simple- pollute marse with hydrocarbons to get a global wamrign effect- moving ineffcient methods of earth Industry to mars, to take advatage of its mineral resources means that this method is the most simple, cheapest, and has a futyure yeild for revenue- however, our governments will have to keep strict regulations on the companies that go thier under ocntract to do this, as it is possible they will resist the forced closing of thier factories, once Carbon dioxide leval have warmed th eplanet, melted the water, and expanded the atmosphere, makign the plnaet tready for second stage terrafomrmation, moving in bacteria- plant, and eventually animal, and human life ontot he planet is a sustainable global atmosphere

Solar mirrors-
While the production of a space-based sunlight reflecting device capable of warming the entire surface of Mars to terrestrial temperatures is theoretically possible [5], the engineering challenges involved in such a task place such a project well outside the technological horizon considered in this paper. A much more practical idea would be to construct a more modest mirror capable of warming a limited area of Mars by a few degrees. As shown by the data in fig. 1, a 5 degree K temperature rise imposed at the pole should be sufficient to cause the evaporation of the CO2 reservoir in the south polar cap. Based upon the total amount of solar energy required to raise the black-body temperature a given area a certain number of degrees above the polar value of 150 K, we find that a space-based mirror with a radius of 125 km could reflect enough sunlight to raise the entire area south of 70 degrees south latitude by 5 K. If made of solar sail type aluminized mylar material with a density of 4 tonnes/km^2, such a sail would have a mass of 200,000 tonnes. This is too large to consider launching from Earth, however if space-based manufacturing techniques are available, its constructing in space out of asteroidal or Martian moon material is a serious option. The total amount of energy required to process. the materials for such a reflector would be about 120 MWe-years, which could be readily provided by a set of 5 MWe nuclear reactors such as are now being considered for use in piloted nuclear electric spacecraft. Interestingly, if stationed near Mars, such a device would not have to orbit the planet. Rather, solar light pressure could be made to balance the planet's gravity, allowing it to hover as a "statite" [6] with its power output trained constantly at the polar region. For the sail density assumed, the required operating altitude would be 214,000 km. The statite reflector concept and the required mirror size to produce a given polar temperature rise is shown in figs 8 and 9.

thier are several other, even more abstract methods to go about it, but these are the two best.

OOC- what current nations make up yours?

A few things of note; Mercury has no (or little enough to effectively be no) atmosphere. And most asteroids are pretty far apart, there is not much more danger in flying through the asteroid belt than through any other region of space.

A)I assume that Turkey woudl gian ratifacatgion intot he EU_ it seems rather likelly to me that it will pass- however, i decided not to add the rest of europe ot the union that isnt in proces sof gettin ginto the EU already

B)Most of the PMF's (pink) land is unclorable, since it comprises such small islands- though rest assured they control most of Polynesia (unfortunatelly, that means almost 0 resources, outsid eof New Zeland, and Papua New Guinea

C)Since " AST&D inc" is a company, and not a nation, its har dot put on amap- so I essentially only gav eit the area of, and around Tokyo, where it is based.
