HOF Questions and Answers Thread

Robert_Smith's example is from the CivilizationIV.ini file. It is found under your "My Games" folder. Each version has one.

The HOF Mod has some automatic save options that can be found on the Game Options. There are 3 HOF tabs that allow you to configure various mods. HOF3 tab has the save options.

Note: the intermediate saves are nice to have but are not absolutely required. The initial save (manual or autosave) and the final save (after victory screens) are all we must have.

I am new to this section of Civ Fanatics and I have a few very basic questions.
1> What is the difference between a Space Race Victory and a Space Colony Victory and how would one achieve the one differing from the normal Civ Space Victory?

2> What is the difference between a Time Limit Victory and a High Score Victory and again how would one achieve the non-standard variety?

Thanx for your time!

  1. Space race is vanilla or warlord, Space colony is BtS
  2. Time is depending on speed for marathon it is 1500 turn, highest score after 1500 turns gets 100 EQM points. High Score is independent of victory condition. Highest score for a certain map/victory condition/difficulty and speed gets the 100 EQM points (lowest date also get 100 EQM points)

Thanx...So the implication is to finish the Space Race I am going to have to install Vanilla or Warlords?

As for the Highest Score could any game qualify (by sending in the game at the points specified) or do you await a game with special conditions?

Also, how would one play a Major Gauntlet game on Settler level? Do you just down load the game but change the difficulty level before starting?

Thanx again

Any game that you win and finish in first place counts as a Score Victory. All it means is that you have the high score in game when you finish. Many games that you play and submit for HOF consideration will qualify as both a Score Victory and the VC that you won in the game (i.e. Domination, Diplomatic, etc.).

Gauntlet games are set up with specified settings. The current Gauntlets are set up for Diety level on the Minor and Prince level on the Major. Any game that you play and submit that meets the all of the settings criteria for the Gaunltlet will count as a Gauntlet submission as well as a normal HOF game submission. The Gauntlets are changed each update (the 10th and 25th of each month). Minors run for one update period and Majors run for two. There are no pre made maps to download.

Games that you play will be compared to games that others play with similar settings. The fastest finish date will get 100% and all other finishers with similar settings will get something less than 100% based on how close those games are to the leader. For Time and Score VC, the comparrison is made based on score rather than finish date.

Yes...to finish a Space Race VC game you must play with either Vanila or Warlords. The Space Colony VC is played using BTS.

For EQM tables, any game from one level (i.e. Prince) will count for that level and every level below it (i.e. Warlord, Chieftan, and Settler).

I hope this helps to clarify things. Ask any other questions that you have and I (or someone else) will try to help you out.

Thank you for your prompt answers. I think I got it now.

Not quite correct. Any game you win counts towards a Score victory, doesn't matter if you finish first in the game score. It is purely to see the highest score for particular tables.

Uh what is a religious victory?

Uh what is a religious victory?
A Religious Victory is a Diplomatic Victory that is won with the Aspostolic Palace (BTS wonder). It is called a Religious Victory to differetiate it from the traditional Diplomatic Victory that is won with the UN.

The formal name for the "Religious Victory" is "Religious Leader Diplomatic Victory".

The Apostolic Palace (TAP) must be built before TAP Resolutions can be selected and voted on. A "Religious Leader Diplomatic Victory" is won by winning The Apostolic Palace's "Diplomatic Victory" Resolution. Each Civ's number of votes is computed by adding the Populations of every City containing the TAP Religion (State Religion of the Civ that built TAP; once built, the TAP Religion can not be changed, although the Civ that built it can change to a new Religion or No State Religion at all) within its Cultural Boundaries. TAP "Diplomatic Victory" Resolution will not be available whenever any Civ has 75% or more of the vote. (75% is also the percentage of votes required to win TAP "Diplomatic Victory".)

Thanks. And it's me again.

Is there some stuff I can add to my Windows Civ4 shortcut to load Civ4 with HOF by default?

"C:\Games\Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe" mod=\HOF-3.17.001

You only need those older one when you plan to play the Space Race game that they force you to play using the older version of the game.

Maybe asked before, but i couldn't find it in this thread or the FAQs. How often are new G-Major and G-Minors released? What's the schedule?

Thanks.

Minors duration is one update. Majors are two updates. We do updates on the 10th and 25th of every month. We put up a new minor and a new major every update.

Is it possible too not show results in the Ad-Hoc query for gauntlets in progress, today it's possible to check all results submitted before 25th for gauntlet running to 10th.

Possible, yes. Easy, no. Those games are have always been visible in the other places. Maybe not always so easy to get to but they are there.

When a Major Gauntlet is played on Diety level, it is even easier to spot the results from the first update since they are detailed on the HOF update for every player brave enough to take on Diety. I don't think think this is much of a problem. There is still a whole update for better times to be achieved. Sure, the players have a target to shoot for from the first update, but they still have no idea what the results have been sice the update. Keeping the status quo is also an incentive for a potential 1st place finisher from the early update to continue playing to improve his/her time.
