Horseman Conscript for me oh yeah

yes? maybe? i don't really remember...
gandhi? whatcha talkin bout willis

It was weird when i got that conscript horseman...

( And continuing the Gandhi parts, Tank: You destroyed Gandhi!
Me the spearman: Who cares, lets fight! Tank: Bring it ON!!!! :spear: )

I do believe I have gotten one or two.... and I believe in order to get it, you need to have Horseback Riding researched.... I take it you did?

I've seen conscript swordsmen as well.

Well you learn something every day. I have never in 5 years of playing this game gotten more then a warrior. That's cool though. I like having cavemen running around.

You folks can keep your fancy pointed sticks and people so lazy they ride horses instead of good old fashioned walking. I'll take the screaming club guy any old day.

I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that the only way you get anything other than a Warrior is if you can't build Warriors yourself, and the unit you get depends on the tech level in the game (Chariot very early and Horseman later; I guess a conscript Swordsman was upgraded??).
Off the top of my head, I can only think of the Sumerians who can do it. I saw for myself last week a Horseman that the AI Sumerians must've popped; I took a screenshot for the screenshot thread but keep forgetting to put it on my USB key.

I thought that if you have the tech for any ancient era unit, and you have the capabilities of making that unit, you get that unit... (i.e.-horseback riding/horses)

I don't think I stated that part in my first post.... I think that might also be required

so yeah.... I think I'm kind of agreeing with you... but kind of disagreeing at the same time :mischief:

I have never gotten a conscript horseman or chariot myself, but I have seen them with the AI.

That would explain a lot. Another civ that seems eligible are the Aztecs with either only the Wheel or HBR.

I would say that's due to upgrading a conscript Warrior, but in light of Bartleby's theory, might this have actually been popped by the Sumerians/Aztecs who had Iron Working but no Wheel?

Someone ought to do an experiment here to test this theory and see how far it can extend down the tech tree - I may eventually if no one else does.

Depends on which version you have, too... I have a lot (repeat: A LOT) of vanilla time, and the only units I've recovered from goody huts are: conscript warriors (*groan*... again?), settlers that want to join my despotism (all right... if he really wants to!), and once in a very very rare occurrence, that prized horseman (which is great for running around looking for more goody huts, especially for non-expansionist civs...)

i've just got warriors from the huts

oh the days of civ 2 where you could pop a guerilla from a hut

I do believe you need the techs before you get different units...

no techs or common: Warrior

Iron Working: Swordsman

The Wheel: Chariot

Horseback Riding: Horseman

Warrior Code: Archer

Yes, pre-hutted warriors. You know, the ones from goody huts.

I'm just curious, from a linguistic point of view, about why use use the prefix "Pre" in regards to the warriors you get from a hut?

Also, I think all conscript warriors are from a hut. I suppose that you could make a conscript warrior after you get "draft" if you lose all your resources. :hmm:
