Illegal immigration, dependence on oil, the 'War on Drugs'. I think these are the top three longstanding problems that have been around forever.

1. Illegal immigration - Cheap labor, practically slave labor, performed by people with less rights than their employers. We cant get enough of it. Thats why even though everyone is terrified of Mexicans, nothing is ever done to stop it.

2. Oil - Its cheap and easy to use, and several influential mega corporations which benefit from the oil business and its related industries have made certain for a century now that we remain oil based. So what if we buy it from people who hate us? Who cares about ruining the environment? Our kids are the ones that'll have to worry, not us. Burn baby, burn!

3. Drugs - God damn, Americans sure love their drugs. Drugs are about as American as apple pie at this point. When we cant import drugs quickly or cheap enough, we manufacture them from scratch out of over the counter household chemicals.

The solution to all three is the same: America, curb your appetites.

While gliding my cursor over the topic title, I was afraid that you were going to dope up mexicans and grind them into biodiesel.

Whew.

I dont think illegal immigration and drugs are two of our three main problems.

Sure they are problems, but i find the economy, and healthcare to be even bigger problems.

But as for Oil, i think the government should start giving grants and financial incentives to companies who develope alternate fuels.

Top three problems that immediately came to mind:

Bush
Cheney
Somebody else in the Executive branch I don't like

Dude, I just gained 4 pounds this week, because of Cold Stone Creamery. Do you have any idea how good that stuff is?

OMG THAT ICE CREAM IS THE BEST[EST] EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Agreed. Coldstone has the best ice cream in the U.S.

Nay the world probably!

My God, thats the most horrible thing Ive ever heard. You leave me no choice but to complain to the FCC.

Cut it out, or Im telling the Nanny State. Mayor Bloomberg will run over there and rap you on the knuckles with a rolling pin.

The real problem with illegal imigration is that it's a natural result of free-market economy, which the country is supposedly built upon.

No, it's a result of 2 things:

1) Mexicans realizing that it's way easier to live & work in the states illegally than to do so through legal channels.
2) Employers who employ illegal immigrants aren't prosecuted

The answers are right there in front of you guys. But of course somebody has to do jobs Americans don't want to do.. so the illegal immigrants will stay.

I don't see how this contradicts what I said. I think our points work in tandem.

The real question is: Why is immigration illegal?

The answer, of course, is for very socialist reasons.

Drug problem could be solved by legalizing the illegal drugs.

Oil problem could be alleviated by dramatically increasing the tax on gas while reducing taxes elsewhere.

Illegal Immigrant problem could be solved by either enforcing existing laws or changing them to allow people to work here.

But all three of these solutions are political suicide for the person who proposes them. Ergo, they will not happen.

Immigration can be both legal and illegal.. thing is that it's way easier to take the illegal route (for mexicans wanting to move to the U.S.)

Start going after employers who employ illegal immigrants and the illegals won't have anything to come to the U.S. for anymore....... seems like an obvious solution to me.

I don't disagree. It just doesn't seem like it has much to do with what I've been saying. Perhaps it's not intended to?

All of the solutions offered so far involve, one way or another, America curbing its appetites. Something that we're violently opposed to.

Not really, Warpus' implied solutions don't require curbing consumption.

I am somewhat favor that "Laws and Institutions" create the culture in which people inhabit and that asking people to volunteer that to "curb its appetite" is impractical.

1) Willing worker

Free market capitalism at its finest.

No, he should be kicked off the forums forever, have to apologize repeatedly to Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson type people, lose his job and be ripped on all over the internet, radio and TV.
