How Can I Declare War On My Vassal?

Forget the entire thing, i had Brennus as my vassal very early in the gaem. i guess he just wanted protection since he was the underdog. But I was more culteure less military so I accepted. 10 turns later he says he doesn't want ot be my vassal. WHy? because he moved up in the rankingfs

Sorry man, but it sounds like your best option is to go for the kill against the guys on the other land mass. Try to preposition yourself to take a few of the main enemy's core cities in the opening moves of the war. If you don't think you can take on the big cheese, hit up the smaller cheeses until one capitulates to you (then declare peace, load up your new vassal with your units, then declare war again and march out from the new vassals territory).

im on the way to a domination victory
im at war with most nations and only one is a threat
out of the 2 nations im not at war with one is tryin to win a space race victory but im stopping him with spies and the other is my vassal
i was helping him take over one of the nations im at war with but then i noticed he is about to win a culture victory and there is nothing i can do to stop him because he is my vassal
m i pretty much screwed?

Try and get him to defy you by demanding things that he needs. If he refuses you will get a couple of choices, one of which is something to effect of "Give it to me or we will be at war". If he still refuses, there will be a state of war between you. He will no longer be your vassal. Try to destroy one of his three near legendary cities before all three become legendary. Otherwise, he wins.

You can also try damaging his cities with spies, although I don't know how effective that can be.

If he's not Spiritual, or has that Wonder, try to get him to keep switching civics or religions. That will put him into anarchy for awhile and prevent hime form producing any more culture for awhile. I won against Darius that way once. I noticed the he was going to get a cultural victory a few turns before my spaceship landed so I just kept him in anarchy long enough to win the game. It was pretty close ending.

I slowed down a culture win by using spies to destroy their culture buildings. They'll rebuild them, but it will buy you some time. Cathedrals and broadcast towers give the 50% bonus, so take those out first, then take out the ones that are obsolete and can't be replaced. At the same time, you do have to hurry to finish your own victory in time.

I haven't used Willem's method of keeping them in anarchy, but that seems awfully useful as well. Also keeping them out of Free speech is a must, and getting them to go to Free Religion probably helps too.

If its a capitulated one its easy, simply demand everything and he should refuse atleast one if he doesnt like you. done

or just WB it to save time.

is it? I am pretty sure my last game declared a domination victory after I had all my enemies as my vassals. I could be wrong though

The tipping point is if you control (without counting the vassal territory) 30% of the landmass.

So if you control 30% of the landmass and the AI controls 70%, then you meet the 65% needed for the domination victory.

If you control 29% or less of the landmass, it is mathmatically impossible to reach 65% with your vassals (unless rounding sways the figures).

At 29% and lower and you vassalized everyone, then it is a conquest victory.

I got my first vassals in last game. I didn't fully understand capitulation when I accepted it from two civs who I'd beaten away from my continent. (They each found tiny desert islands for themselves.) So I couldn't even demand anything from them! Each of them had one crappy little city. Even when I was warring with bigger civs, the bigger civ wouldn't destroy my vassals. So there was no way for me to get a conquest victory, since I couldn't declare on two civs who wouldn't break away from me. Grrr. Oh, and I tried to anger them. I wasn't giving them anything, I was picking fights all over, demanding big cash payments every couple turns ...

If you made them Capitulate, then you likely stole cities from them. In the trade menu you can offer to Liberate their cities, thus actually making them useful (but don't give back too much, or they could break the Capitulation agreement).

I tend to turn vassals off. The master should be able to break it off if he wants.
In my last game with vassals the biggest nation had six pretty big vassals and the only nations who wanted to be my vassal were ones being crushed.

It is interesting though to start a game, go into worldbuilder and make yourself a vassal and try to break free, especially if you make your master bigger and make them dislike you.
