How Charitable are US Churches?

They can be audited the same as any organization that claims non-profit status or any household or any business. The rules for how you have to behave as each of these entities are different.

So yes, they tend to keep copies of their financial records. Silly.

The big difference is that churches don't have to publish those books.

Tons of non-profits don't publish either too. You still need to have the records though.
