How did you decide on your forum name?

On one divine and holy day, I looked unto the clear blue sky and from the heavens above a beautiful angel floated down towards me.

I looked into her enchanting eyes and then she spoke in a soothing and gentle voice. She said : "**** you, dip****"

I forget how the story goes from there.

Boring sunday afternoon, listened to the first Metallica CD, "Phantom Lord" came on, I thought "OK, that's it".

I'm an RPG type guy. I've always been playing RPG computer games for as long as I can remember (12 years). So due to this I would always be inventing new and unusual names to go with my characters. I always wanted something that sounded cool.

Anyhow, a few years back I was playing Master of Orion (the original one) and I chose the race that had the most intellect (the ones with the big heads, I forget their names). Anyhow, the default name of the leader was Seratin; I thought I'd give it a bit of a change and ended up with Jeratain. *shrug* I dunno, I was just bored.

Besides the normal meaning of a name that you go by besides your birth given name, nickname is also another word for username or forum name.

I cleverly combined the name "napoleon" and the three numbers in my house address.

I use my nick for other activities as well, so it is sort of recycling or resource management.

Also, it's kind of an understatement, 'cause actually I'm not a very talkative person and completely unable to perform small-talk.

Before, I used the nick superuser, but with growing of age I felt this was kinda Illusion d' grandeur, so I settled for something more humble.

The first forums I ever joined were wargame forums (I love wargames). So, I'd always have "General" something or other as my name.

Well, I had started watching re-runs of Hogan's Heroes, and I really wanted to use the name "Colonel Klink" but someone had already used that, and I HATE the idea of having a number after my name.

Well, at that same time I was playing Call to Power II and, for some reason, I thought the unit named "Kraken" (it was a futuristic submarine) sounded really cool.

I wanted something militaristic (thus Colonel) and I added Kraken.

There you have it!

Back when I was really heavy into swing and rockabilly, I wanted a domain name that reflected that culture. So I chose voodoocat... and that is what I use for my nic everywhere.

No particular reason, other than that I fell on the keyboard one day in 1993, and the word "Cilpot" appeared.. Been using it since then, at least no one else is using it
