How did you decide your forum name?

There's some interesting forum names around.
Especially the ones that have misled me are the most interesting.

I was suprised to find out that ManOfMiracles is a woman. :)
Also that Akka (Finnish for old hag) is a French bloke.

So, where did you get the inspiration for your nick?

Mine is the second name of my great grandmother who used to look after me sometimes when I was little.

My name comes from nowhere. It was the first thing that popped in there when I was registering. Why just "WickedSmurf" I don't know. I don't even like the Smurfs. I usually use a very different screen name elsewhere.

Hotpoint is my nickname in the real world so I use it as a forum name too. It has nothing to do with any belief I make points that are particularly "hot" by the way :p

This is my usual nickname. I use it for every forums and many other activities.

The infamous hero :king: of the Battle of Teutoburg Forrest (or Karlkriese). It was the battle that stopped Rome. :spear: A most fitting person to name myself after. (Especially considering he was conniving. :goodjob: )

The name just popped into my head a few years ago when I was creating a Diablo II character, I've used it for all my nicks ever since.

@Pasi Nurminen - Yes I did wonder about yours as well. Ice hockey player - that explains it.

@Fetus4188 - Unusual nick - I'd wondered if it was some sort of comment against abortions (not that I want this thread to go into that subject in any way).

@MaisseArsouye - does it mean something, for us non French speakers?

Calgacus is the chief of the Caledonians recorded by Tacitus. He gives a wonderful battle speech which just made me feel compelled to choose this name:

"We, the most distant inhabitants of the earth, the last of the free . . . There are no tribes beyond us, nothing indeed but waves and rocks; and yet more terrible are teh Romans, from whose oppression escape is vainly sought by obedience and submission. They are the robbers of the world, having by their universal plunder exhausted the land, they rifle the deep. If the enemy be rich, they are rapacious; if he be poor, they lust for dominion; neither the east nor the west has been able to satisfy them. Alone among men they covet with equal eagerness poverty and riches. To robbery, slaughter, plunder, they give the lying name of 'empire'; they make a desolation and call it 'peace'."
[Tacitus, Agricola, 30]

My nickname is from a poem by the same name by the 19th century writer Mihai Eminescu - he is regarded as Romania's national poet. Luceafarul is the Romanian word for lucifer, and here that does not refer to the devil, but to the evening star. For those interested, here is a link to an English translation of this poem:http://www.alcor.com.au/gabrield/eminescu/lucifer.asp
My reasons for chosing such a nickname ; I have lived for a while in Romania and have some very bitter-sweet memories from there, and I am very fond of Eminescu's poetry.

@ a space oddity - I always thought you was a woman, but I can't say I would have deducted it from your name. I'm obviously not enough of a Bowie fan to get the hint, if that's where it comes from. I think I got the idea from your previous avatar.

If you think about it ManOfMiracles can be shortened to MOM, althought it really should be MUM. Here is my reply to another similar thread. It is here if you want to view it. [post]2030851[/post] I must admit that this post is from a thread that is quite old.

once after i bit someone in the hand, my friend was laughing at me because of it, he said something like:what are you jaws the second?

and i always lliked that big dumb guy with the steel teeth from those james bond movies

No need to know Bowie. :) It's just that less than 1 out of 10 Civfanatics are female, so it's 'odd' to be female here. Also love for Space related topics and SF (not fantasy) is kinda uncommon for females, so that's 'odd' too. It was 2001 when I joined ( it's been three years already! :cringe: ) and the '2001 - A Space Odyssey' from my sig is the title of a famous novel. Bowie made the record called 'A Space Oddity' as a reaction. He's good at tapping into fads. People might know the song as 'Major Tom'.

From a word used by me and my friends when we worked putting up fences. It meant some fairly aimless, half-hearted activity. As in:

Do much today?
Nah, scuffed around a bit at XXXXXX, then went and did some feather-edging at YYYY

It suits.
