How did you decide your forum name?

@ classical hero - I'm not suprised that this thread has been done before, but hey I'm still getting responses :)
Thanks for the link by the way.

No need to know Bowie. :) It's just that less than 1 out of 10 Civfanatics are female, so it's 'odd' to be female here. Also love for Space related topics and SF (not fantasy) is kinda uncommon for females, so that's 'odd' too. It was 2001 when I joined ( it's been three years already! :cringe: ) and the '2001 - A Space Odyssey' from my sig is the title of a famous novel. Bowie made the record called 'A Space Oddity' as a reaction. He's good at tapping into fads. People might know the song as 'Major Tom'.

Ya, there aren't very many women who get into the whole gaming thing or sci-fi for that matter.

*cough* 3000 *cough*

You just hit 3000 posts :mischief:

Yes, I love math.

Weeeeeeeell. Wellity wellity wellity. Well well well. Well.

First there was Freelancer. I got it, cos it was class. Then I joined the forum for Freelancer, so I decided to name myself after an in-game faction, the Corsairs.

And so, Corsair#01 was born. Shortly after, I found out a bit about the actual corsairs, but originally it was the video-game faction I was named after.

A while after, I figured I'd put some "~"s on each end cos it looks cool.

Then I signed up here. :D

Could well be 3000 just those who've registered here, that would only be 6% of the total.

edit: oh, that 3000 - sorry I misunderstood.

I just made it up so that I would have a weird name when I signed up.

When I signed up, I had just finished reading A. Conan Doyle's The Lost World and couldn't think of another name, so I used GEChallenger, after the main character, G. E. Challenger. I wish I could change it; the name I now use for everything (other boards, instant messanging, online accounts, e-mail) is gladius or some variation of that (usually gladiuus if gladius is taken). From the roman short sword, obviously, and for no other reason than it being unique and easy to remember.

You can make a request to TF if you want it changed.

@MaisseArsouye - does it mean something, for us non French speakers?

It's not french but walloon.

"arsouye" means something like "roguish", "childish". It's very, very different from the french word "arsouille" which has a bad connotation. My grand-grand-father had a periodical in walloon called "l'Arsouye". As he was the "master" of it, he took "Maisse Arsouye" ( maisse = master ) as a nickname. So, Maisse Arsouye means "roguish master".

He did a lot to promote walloon culture ! When I created my website, I just took the nickname of my ancestor. And I hope I do for Wallonia as well as he did ! I took part to a lot of meeting to promote walloon culture, I even went to the Walloon Parliament. Many people know me only with my nickname :D

Well, when I originally signed up I used the nick "ShadowFlame" which was, at the time, my universally-used internet nickname.
Then, nine months ago, when I started playing Civ3 again (because of Conquests) I started posting again and had by then already changed my nickname across the internet to the current one. I didn't identify with my old one anymore, so I asked TF to change my nick and he did.
I chose this nick a bit over a year ago, when I was sick of my old nick and just thought it would sound good (and it has something to do with my becoming more thoroughly atheistic over the last couple years).

I attempted to register as "Kafka's dick" while too drunk to be left in control of a set of fingers. Something went wrong, and here I am.

Iggy is my real life nick name, albeit a short version of my orginal nick name "Ignition".

My name is Dave, and I am known as Davo by many people, so I just used that for forums. When I joined I decided I should a 'civ' sounding title to it, thus I chose 'Comrade'.
Don't ask me why I decided to have a 'civ' sounding title........I can't remember  Comrade seemed the natural choice being a left-winger and all........though whilst in those days I would have called myself a communist I no longer use that term.

"Yom" is my real first name and I use it everywhere, so no story here. If "Yom" is taken, I usually just add my Christian name "Arkegzi" for my username.

An augur is someone who divines the future by omens and superstition (specifically referring back to the flight paths and behaviours of birds -- from the mythical founding of Rome, when Romulus and Remus feuded over which hill to found upon). An augury is such a divination: "The auguries don't bode well for him." An augurey is a mythical bird found in Harry Potter :D

From a book JK Rowling wrote, Fantastic Beasts and where to find Them:

Thin and mournful-looking bird somewhat resembling a vulture, greenish-black in color, native to Britain and Ireland. Normally remaining hidden in its nest in brambles and thorns, flying only in heavy rain, the feathers of the Augurey repel ink. Its distinctive cry was once thought to be a death omen, but it is now known that the Augurey's cry foretells rain. The Augurey eats insects and fairies.

Describes me well. I'm really shy. Love going out only when it's raining. Though, I'm quite a bit more attractive than a vulture....
