How did you end up in CFC OT?

I was looking for scenarios for Civ II my all time favorite, found some great middle Earth ones from Favored Flight, use to post on Apolyton but grew out of it and found off topic here, lurked for years upon years just indulging in the spamfests that were also highly entertaining and educational. Followed this 'theres a girl on this bus' thread for a year by some dude too shy to ask out a girl but eventually did and all the ups and downs that came with it. Enjoyed the intellectualism and wits of some posters like Perfection, Abbadon and his antics, Curt the OG atheist, ElMac and his immortal quest, FredLC, skadistic, names it's great to see some are still around or back and others that mean nothing to most but to me are like offtopic legends. Finally decided since I keep coming back over the years to this place after seeing the rest of the internet devolve into a craphole I might as create an account. And so I'm here now and I think I may slightly regret that...

What I find best thing on CFC is that very many people here love Monty Python as much as I am loving it :D

Sometimes it's funny to realize that I've been on CFC longer than some of the posters I consider long-time ones. (But I was absent for a few years.)

When I came back, the forum software had changed over to XenForo. I remember thinking "uhhh....this looks very different than I remembered...."

We saw Neil Innes perform at a small venue in Adelaide about 8 years ago. He wrote quite a lot of the music and lyrics for songs used in Monty Python.
Before and during his stint with MP, he was also in The Bonzo Dog Band. There are feint hints in the lyrics of Bad Blood that ended up in Monty Python's "The Lumberjack Song".

@aimeeandbeatles, @Synsensa: Yes, you were both young when you joined, but please don't denigrate your past selves. From my perspective, I found both of you to be interesting, friendly people then, and you still are now.

I appreciate the sentiment but my behaviour for the majority of my online life was unacceptable. And I, in general, don't like having such a long-term permanent record. The posts from between 2006 to 2014 are just awful, and I feel they reflect poorly on me because I know that I knew better back then but actively chose to be less.

If it were up to me, I'd have a new account without this Retired tag and without any of my posts made while as a preteen and teen. But it's against the rules, and trying to do so would only get me banned.

And I was an idiot. So...

After 2 weeks I was thrown off Facebook and woke up on Twitter.

For some reason this prodded me to realize that the last time I saw "How did you end up in _____?" as a topic of regular conversational interest the last word was "prison."

This not a prison, it's the ultimate rabbit's hole ! :D

Oh let's have a go at this timeless classic once more than shall we ? ;)

:shake:

The only proper song about anything logging-related is "Log Driver's Waltz" (starts about 20 seconds in):

Now this is a Canadian classic. :)

I ended up in OT much the same was as Arakhor - wandered by one day, saw a hot take I disagreed with, and decided to let him know what I thought!

Before OT I was moderately active on the Civ4 modding forums and released a couple small mods, but I was starting to get a bit bored with that. I wandered by OT and saw a post by one of the legends of OT, Domination3000*, decided to tell him I thought he was wrong, and the rest is history.

I might have spent some time in World History before coming to OT where I was a particularly annoying sort of Byzantinephile before Dachs and LightSpectra metaphorically slapped some sense into me.

*I actually sort of miss him. I never got the sense he was arguing in bad faith and he always responded to posts even when literally half of OT was dogpiling him. I know we had an effect on him as he shifted a sort of Christian Fascist to a decent sort of Ron Paul style Libertarian. Wonder what happened to him. Hope he didn't go alt-reich.

I don't recall you ever being unintelligent.

All I remember is managing to drive everyone nuts and constantly getting infractions. (Is this PDMA?)

Apart from your love of Tom Petty, all I really remember is you shutting down Merkinball after he went on one of his ultra-Libertarian rants about everyone can get a job and those who don't have a job are lazy scroungers.

I think I remember that username. But I'm not sure. I don't remember shutting anyone down but I think I once got mad at someone who said that universal healthcare shouldn't exist (because I'd probably be dead if it didn't).

Came to cfc for civ3 guides, then civ4 guides, started modding civ4 graphics, got into political debates in LH threads and the mods there told me to take it to OT...
