How do we cheer up the English?

I rat porridge most days but it's flavored oats.

Today's breakfast dining out.

- give them back Hong Kong. The civilized choice!

- fox hunting? Yes.

- Rishi Sunak vs. George Galloway in the Thunderdome, only on pay per view!

- abolish TV ads for sports betting websites. Actually, abolish those ugly betting shops altogether. Casino gambling is fine.

shower thoughty, but coming from the perspective of being raised in a nation of small nationalism, i'm going to bring up history and politics. i think the weather and food are memey reasons for what's going on in the zeitgeist.

britain never really got over their historical international position. brexit was lashing out. i've seen the wastes of victorian working class architecture that people still live in. back in the day, even with the despair, it used to mean something. living in politics has an effect on your mood, surprise.

depression has to do with desentization and lack of ability to feel there's a good outlook on life. lack of ability to care. while economic growth is definitely a thing since those days, there's a distinction between that and a sense of purpose. and the purpose has been on a downward spiral during and after decolonization. while the purpose is... questionable as to morality, it's hard consolidating a dreary life when your zeitgeist has historically been centered around a sense of ruling the waves or whatever.

different people cope with it in different ways. russia is acting out in a different way atm, for instance. so is the us.

i don't know honestly what would make the brits happier. thing is that riding power is only substantial for a semblance of purpose when you have it. i can at least thank the brits (and the germans) for respectively absolutely flattening denmark in the 1800s, so we got over that.

I'm sending an English friend of mine a box full of Scandinavian treats and chocolates in April.
I'm not sure if that's good or not.
When my Lithuanian cousin came to Australia he brought some chocolate treats that were "pineapple" flavoured.
They were vile - I suspect that they were what some Lithuanian entrepreneur imagined pineapple tasted like.

What about rigging the Eurovision vote to let them win? Mitch Benn's effort would at least get them more than the dreaded nul points.

I think they have more chance to win the EC in Germany this summer, to be honest, and that would certainly cheer them up...

They actually have a good team this time around.

The Lionesses lead the way :

Where is the salty licorice from again? Wherever it is, that place is not to be trusted with candy. The kitty's litter box should not smell like my confectionary tastes(I did still eat the whole bag).

One of the Skarsgård brothers? Or perhaps a Noomi Rapace, if she's more their tempo. (Saw her on the subway once. She's even better-looking than I thought. )

I wonder how many people in HK would approve of this, at this point..?

Civilized? Like the Opium War and gunboats they attacked with.

Hong Kong is losing competitiveness to cities on the mainland
The danger Hong Kong faces is not that it might become ‘just another mainland city’, but that it is already subpar to many of its urban cousins across the border.

They're fading, just like the Brits.

It's a shared Swedish-Finnish perversion.

This has been produced specifically as a challenge, to really put hairs on your chest:
[Translates roughly as "Swedish Bastards"]

The English seemed much happier when Prince Harry taught Afghani goatherds about democracy by shooting at them from a helicopter.
