How do you think god, or if you don't believe in god, how do you think a perfect being decides whether we are good or evil. Is it by:

Law: The things we do that are good and the things we do that are evil. Example: This god would believe Robin Hood was evil because he was a theif.

Or

Intent: The things we do that we believe are good and the things we do that we believe are evil.
Example: This god would believe Robin Hood was good because he did what he thought was the right thing to do.

By his words and laws. God didnt sent Moses down from the Mountan with the Commandments for his health ya know ;).

It's more intent.

There are four kinds of actions

1 Doing the wrong thing for the wrong reason
2 Doing the right thing for the wrong reason (to be praised, self righteousness, etc.)
3 Doing the wrong thing for the right reason
4 Doing the right thing for the right reason

God would rather we do the wrong thing believing it is right then do the right thing with evil intent.

Furthermore, God will judge us based on our ability, knowledge, and situation. If we don't know something is wrong and we do it, it's not held against us. Those who never encounter the gospel are also not condemned if they did their best to do what they believed was right, because they did not know any better. The only snag is if we discover we are ignorant and deliberately stay that way. We should always pursue more knowledge.

I don't know that I've explained this very well...

Intent, but it's going to take a bit more than that to absolve Robin Hood, as "Thou shalt not steal" is about as explicit as it gets.

Can we use any god?

Well if its the god i would like to exist but dont beileve exists then he doesnt judge us and everyone gets to do whatever he wants in the afterlife? :p

Neither. God judges us based on whether or not our sin nature is paid for by Christ's sacrifice, not by works or intent, might or power.

Many times in scripture you'll find God uses someone's own judgment to condemn himself. Thus you reap what you sow. If a person can't stand by his own judgment then how will he ever stand before a Holy Righteous God? Amazing Grace.

Christianity says that we're all evil, but God loves us anyway.
Islam says that we can be good enough to not get smited.
El_Machinae says "just be better than the people you don't think are good enough"

I think calling it "intent" may mislead some - in law, "intent" usually means whether you planned or meant to do that. So someone who kills someone by accident didn't intend it, whilst someone who killed in the heat of the moment might be treated more leniently that someone who planned the murder.

I think what you describe is more "judging them by their own moral code".

In some ways this makes sense - it means I wouldn't have to worry about punished for not knowing that I'm not supposed to say eat chocolate on some certain day of the month.

It also makes sense in that someone doing evil but thinking they were doing right should perhaps be seen as someone who needs help, rather than punishment - it's reasonable to say that knowing that what you are doing is wrong is more evil.

But you have to be prepared for serious consequences - by this measure, Hitler would get off free if he believed he was doing right. But someone who generally leads a good life, but tries to live up to a very high standard and makes a few mistake, leaving them feeling they had done wrong, would risk being condemned by this.

He doesn't judge us. But a good roundhouse kick is important.

But a good roundhouse kick is important.

Agreed.

I thought he judged us according to how much moolah we give to the church? Also, there are these things you can buy called indulgences that are scientifically proven to make God judge you more leniently if you buy them. I've got loads, and now I'm allowed to kill people! :)

Kinda strange to think that a God as being analogous to a person who by profession being a Judge in court deciding criminal cases.

This is silly. It is as you are saying that God is testing us to do what is good and what is evil and once the test is over,we will find out how our grades will be in front of an omnipresent being who's heaven is His court and hell being his prison.
