One thing is certain. However we judge the mods, there are posters I judge even lower, an am amazed at the mods patience... If I wielded the ban hammer? If only.

I think they're doing a fantastic job. I like the high standards and the zero tolerance for flaming.

No, but I know how hard it can be to be a mod, especially if there's a large group of people constantly looking for conflict.

I am mainly roaming the Civ3 forums and never had trouble with the moderators. But I also think at least over there is not much need as mainly the discussions are very civilized.

I mentioned in that thread (since lost) in OT.
3 Strikes. Anyone who has misbehaved to the point of getting 3 temp bans has no intention of learning the lesson and should be perma banned. Even that is pretty damned lenient.
But as things stand, the same people disrupt this place year after year, and the Mods are essentially powerless to do anything about it.
It drives good posters away when bad ones are not dealt with in a way that stops their behavior.

Mods are inconsistent with the rules, and also inconsistent between each other. They all interpret the rules differently and hand out different punishments from each other. I've also seen mods break the rules, then later edit it out and avoid punishment.
There's only two mods I have some respect for: Ainwood and Turner.
I once had a mod tell me it was hard because they had so much work to do here. Well as mentioned above, that's a result of the stiffling rules that are set here. There's so many rules, and so many "no-no's" that one can't help but cross them every now and again. Unfortunately the site seems to be a product of its own rules: a nanny state.
