Yea I stopped wearing a watch maybe 5 or 8 years ago. I use to wear a watch with temp altimeter etc. but aps on phones these days kind of make everything redundant. I have tried to wear watches for nostalgic reasons but they feel like a weight now. weird.

Even though I don't have a fancy phone with those apps, I still don't wear a watch. My phone has clocks with alarms and timers on it, and that's basically all I need a watch for.

Given that I have started relying on the phone for those features, I would consider wearing a more traditional analog watch rather than a digital one now.

If I am wearing jeans, then I have four. I'll use the left front for my iPod and wallet, and my phone and camera in the right front. I'll use my butt pockets to hold miscellany, perhaps change or scraps of paper.

Shorts, usually only two. I'll keep the formation the same.

I voted wrong. I voted 0-2 but should have voted 3-5 (or 4-6, more accurately). However, I only ever use two. I also don't count coat pockets, since (usually) I'm not wearing a coat. Occasionally I will stuff things in coat pockets (and sometimes subsequently forget where they are), but since I wear coats less than half the year, two still wins.

Outside of coat pockets, I only ever use the front pockets, even though all my workday outfits also have back pockets (including shorts, which usually have more front pockets than other garments as well). The #1 most common item in my pocket is my wallet (including cash and change, which I empty out or try to spend down if it becomes excessive), followed by car and house keys (only not present if I'm staying at a hotel on business and am not driving), and about two-thirds of the time my cell phone, which I've started carrying with me less. Occasionally writing utensils or something else is also present, but those are the big three.

My phone quadruples as my music player, watch, and camera, as well, so I don't have to carry those separately. I use the latter functionality occasionally, but don't use the former very much, and the middle one is situational.

to me it seems odd: iPod and wallet in one pocket (i have to isolate any MP3 player or face grave consequences)

CHange in a back pocket?! Are you a BARbarian?

I used to put my wallet in my back pocket, until I realized that it was quite obvious it was there, and left it open to possible pickpocketers.

With the change, if I put that in a pocket with stuff in it, the change gets lost until I pull everything else out.

Keys, right pants pocket; wallet, back left pants pocket. If I'm wearing a shirt with a chest pocket, I'll put pens and my calendar in there. Otherwise they go in the left pants pocket. If I'm wearing my a jacket, I like to keep the wallet in the inside jacket pocket.

@Integral: I don't currently wear a watch, but I'm planning on buying a little Timex that just has the time and date. I'd buy a mechanical watch (not quartz, and certainly not digital) if I could, but quartz seems to reign in the stores down here.

Pockets
warm weather - 5. Jeans contain four, shirt typically contains one.
cold weather - 9. Jeans have four, coat has four, shirt has one.

Items
warm weather - wallet, phone, keys, headphones, 4gb flash drive.
cold weather - the above, plus a hat and gloves in my coat pockets.

I use two jeans pockets: wallet goes in one, keys, flash drive (on the keyring), and phone go in the the other. My headphones usually end up in my shirt pocket or in my coat pockets.

Then I also carry a briefcase pretty much everywhere. That contains papers, either my laptop or tablet (depending on what I plan to do that day), a minimum of two more flash drives (2gb Linux bootable USB, 8gb general-purpose), a pocketknife, etc, etc.

Does anyone still wear a watch? I stopped last year, as it started feeling redundant.

I still wear one on occasion. I'd wear one more often, but lost my dress one and haven't replaced it.

4 or 5 pants pockets, depending on the pants. Though I have some jeans and shorts with cargo pockets, so that's up to 7. Maybe 1/3 of my shirts have 1 pocket. Most of my coats and jackets have 3 pockets. So it varies a lot by how I'm dressed.

Carry wallet, phone, chapstick, and the a varying amount of change at any given point in time. Often a pen or pencil.

You can see from the poll that not many women are here, else the 0-2 category would be leading ^^.

If you really want to get in front of the curve wear a sundial. See what kind of interest that gives you at a party.

My two favourite jackets have two inside and outside pockets so winter adds four to my usual 3 in my pants plus 1 in my work bag.

Hey I don't get it. I looked on line and still dont' get the Rob reference. please explain.

Crappy comic artist who had some success in the 90s. Among many other things, he was known for a love of needless pockets and pouches:

He's not actually my personal tailor.

Four.

Wallet in back right, work ID in back left, phone in front left, keys/gum/cigarettes in front right.

And let's not refer to rob liefed as an artist.

I believe that most of my pants have 4 pockets, but some have 2 or 3. Some of my shirts have a pocket, but I never really use those. When it is cool enough I always like to wear a coat or jacket with 2 or 3 pockets.

I prefer keeping things in my jacket pockets rather than my pants pockets. I find that better looking and more comfortable. (Some of my pants are not loose enough to use their pockets comfortably, at least when sitting down.) I'll typically put my wallet in a right side pocket, sometimes with my cell phone and some chapstick there too an sometimes with those balancing out the other side. When wearing my rain jacket I prefer to put more things in the left side, because otherwise the weight causes it to move so that you can see the tag with cleaning instructions when it is unzipped.

I can't wear watches. But I do have a small pocketwatch clipped to my purse strap. Must remember to reset it for Daylight Savings Time.

Right here, friend. :)

My first thought on seeing the poll was, "Zero, since I happen not to be a kangaroo." Then I realized the thread is about clothing.

The vast majority of my indoor clothing does not contain pockets. My light jacket has 2 pockets which currently contain a little spare change and my winter gloves and toque (this winter has been so insanely mild that I have hardly needed to wear my actual winter coat).

My winter coat contains 4 pockets, all of which need mending. Normally they contain stuff like gloves, toques, a couple of shopping bags, spare change, receipts, and other assorted stuff.

I don't consider my purse to be a pocket I normally have on my clothes, since I don't take my purse with me everywhere. For example, I'm not wearing it while typing this post. But if I were to go shopping or on some other errand that isn't taking out the garbage or collecting the mail, I would take my purse with me.

Interesting thing about pockets... in centuries past, the word was sometimes used to refer to pouches or purses that people would hang from their belts. During my active time in the Society for Creative Anachronism, I used belt pouches extensively, since my costumes had no pockets. It's amazing how much you discover you really don't need to cart around with you, and that it helps to keep the stuff you do cart around balanced. It's kinda undignified when your belt breaks because you overloaded a pouch... :p

I have five pockets: One on the left side of my shirt, occasionally two, the second on the right side. Two front pockets and two back pockets on my pants.
